Been to a few Peruvian restaurants in London and was happy to find one in Newcastle as well. Food was very tasty indeed and staff friendly and attentive. Will be back when in town!

I left Solano’s tonight feeling incredibly disappointed! We were informed by the waiter on arrival that this was the first Peruvian restaurant outside of London so I was expecting great things… sadly Solano’s didn’t deliver! The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful offering their own suggestions from the menu and all were knowledgeable about the food on offer hence the two star rating. That’s where the compliments end. The prices were very steep. You’re looking at around £12/13 for a main which isn’t so bad when the quality is great but sadly the lamb although tender was rather dry and bland and the calamari wasn’t anything worthy of its price. All in all the food was mediocre but at a cost and so my friends and I wouldn’t be in a rush to return! The décor and ambience seems to be a bit confusing too… lots of vibrant colours like yellow and blue but overall it appears to me like it’s not sure what it’s meant to be! Friendly café or elegant restaurant?! The atmosphere was also lacking as it was very quiet which I thought was unusual given its relatively new status! I’m hoping it’s just early days and therefore the quality of the food may improve but to be honest when you can get such good value elsewhere I’m not sure I would give it another try anytime soon!
