If you’re after a river view from your room then this is one of the places to stay, being situated right on the Tyne, much closer in fact and it would be in it. The staff are friendly and you can get wifi free with a code from them at reception, it changes daily so you have to make sure that you get the most up to date bit of paper/coupon. The rooms are clean, spacious and bright the bathroom has a bath thats more of a deep shower tray, but it will do at a push, and the shower worked quite nicely. It’s location is perfect if you want to wander along to the quayside and the pubs, restaurants etc, if you don’t want to go far then there is a ‘spoons next door that does pitchers of cocktails for a fiver, and they will look at you strangely if you reply to the question ‘how many glasses do you want’ with ‘just a straw will do’…

Stayed here on a business trip, Monday through Friday. The hotel was somewhat pricey, there were less expensive hotels in the same area. I paid around £80/night. The location of this hotel is great! It is in the Quayside area, overlooking the Tyne river. Within walking distance to lots of restaurants, pubs, bars, Grey Street, the Metro train station, shopping centres. Also very close to the castle keep. If running is your thing, great running paths very close. I ran around downtown area, only ½ mile of so away. Also took a jog along the Tyne… there is a boardwalk/pathway for bikes/walking/jogging. Also, there is a spa and fitness center within the hotel… I didn’t visit it, but the hotel has one. The fitness center closes relatively early(9PM)… wish it would have stayed open later or 24 hr. The restaurant is decent, full bar, wide variety of breakfast items. 24 hour room service. Food was a bit expensive and breakfast was £14 if not included in the room rate. My room overlooked the river, great view(I booked a room under ‘River view’, they had other types of rooms to choose from). The room was clean, spacious. Had a tv, coffee/tea maker, blowdryer, ironing board, refrigerator, small table, desk. Front desk service was great, no complaints. On the last day, I checked out early and they were able to store my luggage all day while I trekked around Newcastle. Ride to the airport cost approx £10. I did not have a car, however, there is a car park available. Not sure of the rates. I would definitely recommend staying here… would stay here again myself if/when I’m back in the area.

Visited as part of a work stay recently. Good location(right on the Tyne, fabulous!) and loved the bar with seating outside. Room was a little tired and could have done with some updating. Shower was good. Loved the Tyne view. Sadly all I could hear was the metro trains rumbling along the bridge for a lot of the night and didn’t quite get the best sleep. Restaurant was also good — they serve a different menu every night. Was interesting to try the curried Pigeon — although a fish starter was under-spiced and a little lacklustre. Breakfast was good but there wasn’t a huge choice of food on offer on the deal booked with your room(continental but no meat — mainly fruit, yoghurt, juice and cereal with a little toast). Have marked it down a little as the tiredness of the décor and noise of the rumbly trains made quite a big impact on my stay and made me spend as little time in the room as possible!

Prior to getting engaged we drove around Newcastle and the surrounding area to look for a wedding reception.(I know a bit premature but we knew it would happen). We found the Copthorne. It is situated close to the Quayside overlooking the Tyne and is the type of place that makes an immediate postive impression on you. Having got the ring on the finger we met up with the coordinator who was fantastic. She took care of everything and the day was organised without a fuss. The day itself was fantastic helped considerably by the venue. The staff were helpful in every respect even down to our return after leaving the reception where we were able to access our room via the service elevator. As part of the reception package we were also given an anniversary meal voucher which of course we used.

Large hotel that is not visually attractive but does everything you need it too. Held a conference here previously and everyone was happy with rooms and venues. The Man United team stayed here previously for the Newcastle matches might still do) so that gives you a benchmark. Rude lot didnt have brekfast with us though! Better boutique hotels probably available nearby but probably more difficult to get into and probably not really any better. Despit being on Quayside noise not a maor issue
