Stayed in a spacious and comfortable room. Décor is fresh and modern and rooms are kitted out with TV, hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities, toiletries, etc. Good central location, opposite Central Station and in walking distance of pubs and restaurants. Buffet breakfast was included and was fine — help yourself to the usual hot cooked breakfast items, toast, bagels, a choice of cereals and muesli, yoghurt, fruit, croissants and pastries, and you can make some hot waffles. One small niggle — tables are not allocated and it can be difficult to find one when it’s busy.

This is a new(as of 2015) hotel, just across the road from the railway station, so great for travellers. The rooms are pretty standard modern rooms, with a dark brown and forest green colour scheme, and big windows. My en-suite had a walk-in shower rather than a bath but was very clean. It was all decently equipped, with a very comfortable bed. One thing that slightly threw me is the reception is on the first floor, so the entrance is pretty innocuous. As it was a Friday night, there was a bouncer on duty on the door, which is slightly off-putting, but I guess necessary to prevent people misusing the lobby. Once inside, staff were friendly and check-in swift and easy. I got a very good rate(just over £50 including breakfast). The breakfast itself was fairly standard fare — the only oddity being that it is self-service but from a separate room, and it took a few seconds of hunting to find it(other guests looked even more puzzled). It’s a pretty standard affair — plenty of choice, but all pre-cooked.

A fantastic hotel, located just steps from Central Station, and I do mean just steps. The hallway on the ground floor leads to two lifts which take you to reception on the second floor. Great welcome, warm and friendly staff. Rooms are warm, inviting and spotlessly clean. Mine has a double bed, tea/coffee making facilities, flat screen tv(with over 50 channels) and radio(with a further 25 channels) and free wifi. From the 7th floor you get great views of the city and I can see the Tyne Bridge(albeit the top half) from my room. All bathrooms have great power showers(none have baths), excellent fluffy towels and canisters of shower gel, hand soap and shampoo too. The rooms come complete with iron and ironing board, as well as a hair dryer. There a 24-hour fitness centre, bar and lounge area, and a snack bar with a choice of hot and cold food available 24 hours a day. A hot breakfast buffet is included in all rates, every morning. Location-wise, it’s perfect for the city centre and directly opposite Central Station. Hilton class this as a budget hotel, but I feel this is doing it a disservice. Give it a 4* rating and that would be kinder. I’d not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a perfect base to see this exciting city and the surrounding area. Well done to all staff, seen and unseen!
