One of the things I look for in a good city is a good Chinese bakery. Newcastle-upon-Tyne, you are safe. This is a little tucked away but definitely worth the hunt. Who can say no to the buns and cakes? It’s simple, clean and not too pricey. The quality and taste is ok, best that I’ve had so far in the city. You can order Chinese cakes to be made for any occasion and take-away or sit-in.

… wonder why it is always full-basically Asian students patronizing the eatery. Pretty good food in a «kopitiam» environment. Had jumbo prawn kuey teow and no complain. Of course we had the so-called snack breads to take back home … had a sneak of the kitchen on the way to the loo — pretty impressive — damn clean kitchen — definitely, a plus factor …

Newcastle’s only major Chinese bakery, Jasmine’s is a very popular destination amongst the local Asian population and those in the know. It’s main claim to fame is its brilliant selection of Chinese snack-breads, including the inimitable sugar-glazed bread and unique hotdog roll. You might have to come a bit early to ensure you have a good amount of choice, however, as they can sell out of their most popular products very quickly. They also have a range of delicious Chinese foods in the adjoining café. Definitely check it out if you haven’t already.
