Was ok. Nice environment and staff was very welcoming. Prawns in garlic and chillies were a little over cooked but flavour was great.

Prima is a real gem of a restaurant, a stone’s throw from both the Quayside and from the centre of town, so definitely a convenient location but it can get busy, especially of a weekend. I was there recently on a works night out, in a party of at least 25 people, seated upstairs along with two or three others parties of over 25 people too. There was a great atmosphere, a real buzz about the place, and the staff really were enjoying themselves, which was great to see! I did think that with so many large parties eating all at once, the food would either take some time to come out or be rushed and of inferior quality. Wrong and wrong! All our orders came out around the same time(as best could be done with such a large group) and the food was excellent. There’s lots to choose from, as a guide my starter was scallops with black pudding, parma ham and salad — the scallops were cooked perfectly, my only teeny complaint was that the black pud was a bit overdone! Main was a Pizza Lucifero(nice’n’spicy — had to be done), and that was also cooked perfectly, the thin base cooked through but not overdone, the right amount of toppings, really tasty. Lots of clean plates and happy people at the end(I would’ve had a dessert, but everyone else was feeling full and I didn’t want to be the lone greedy guts…) All prices seem very reasonable from the menu, although cannot really comment as this one went on the company tab. However, I would definitely come back here given the prices. So, if you’re looking for somewhere in Newcastle with great food, excellent atmosphere and superb staff, you’ll not be disappointed should you opt to come here.

I’ve visited Prima on several occasions as a party of 2 and party of 35, during happy hour and for sunday lunch so its safe to say I continue going back to this restaurant for the great value, friendly staff and most importantly the excellent quality food. Can’t fault the location on Newcastle Quayside and unusually this restaurant has rooms within the stone arch leg of the old high level bridge so you feel like you’re outside except for the fact that you’re toasty and warm from the flowing food and drink! If you miss out on these rooms and are seated at the front of the restaurant you can at least see the kitchen in front of you which is a nice touch. Happy hour means you can afford to eat out on a budget with some pizzas and pastas priced at £6. Headed here for sunday lunch once too… reluctantly as surely this would be better at a British pub over an Italian restaurant? Well I was surprised at how amazing this was… the meat was cooked perfectly although overall the portion was a bit on the small side.

I’ve now been here twice as it’s our go to restaurant when we work at the Great North Run. After a long day on our feet it’s lovely to come to Prima to relax and celebrate. The staff are really friendly and helpful, there’s a great menu and the food is really good. This year I asked the waiter whether he recommended the bolognese or goats cheese pizza. He quickly said the goats cheese and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. It was really tasty, the base was thin and crispy, there was a good amount of topping and the crusts were thin. It also went very well with the house white wine. One of my colleagues changed her mind just after ordering and they had no problem with that. When our dishes came out the waiter realised he had forgotten to cancel the first one there were 8 main courses instead of 7. He gave it to us for free so we all enjoyed a little spicy sausage risotto. We were too stuffed for dessert but the choice was great so I wish I had! As well as the food and staff being wonderful, the restaurant setting is lovely too with a gorgeous really high ceiling and wall. I’d definitely recommend coming here hungry if you’re in Newcastle!

Tried the spaghetti with meatballs during happy hour. You cant go wrong with two courses for 10 pounds in a pleasant atomosphere.

Cheap food during happy hours(pizza for 5 pounds). Nice atmosphere and kind staff. But the staff is a little unorganised, 5 different people were serving us at the same time. You can sit outside if you want and with the terrace at the west you can even enjoy the evening sun.

Went here for Valentines day and it was great. Delicious pizza and pasta. Desserts over the top! Good drinks and beers. A bit hectic for the staff which lead to some confusion upon ordering at first but other than that, great!

When ever I’ve been to this place we have always had some problem with either getting over charged on the billing(which in some cases staff moan or act like its a chore, even though its them who have got it incorrect) or wrong orders being taken. Granted there has always been a group of between 8 – 12 but for such a big restaurant you would have thought these kinks would have been worked out! The food itself is ok, alot better places around and i feel that its more processed Italian food then authentic!

We had a table booked for 10 on a busy saturday night. Waiters were very friendly and service was quick despite being in a large party. Having said that I could not find anything on the menu that I fancied. One of the girls ordered a side portion of chips which were in an extremely small bowl and a little disappointing. Overall most people seemed to enjoy their food and given the speedy service and friendliness of the staff, the restaurant delivered.

Conveniently located restaurant near to all the bars on the Quayside at Newcastle. The restaurant offers a good priced happy hour for pizza and pasta and the food is of a good quality, although it does suffer from an influx of other similar restaurants in the area.

Being a vegetarian I find this is one place I can go where I’m never stuck for choice. The location itself is worth a visit. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the prices in my opinion realy cheap. What more could you ask.

Reliable cheap food, good selection of Italian food — I usually go here with a couple of vegetarians in the party and they are never stuck for choice. Pleasant and jokey staff even at busy times. The interior is interesting, particularly if you’re seated at a table by the bridge that goes across the street. It’s a convenient location if you want to pop down to one of the many bars on the Quayside for a drink before or after your meal. The pizzas are huge here and delicious, you could easily feed two from a calzone.

There are lots of good things about this restaurant! 1) It has the cooking area on show as you walk in. 2) The food is authentic 3) I think it has checky tablecloths! 4) The back of the restaurant has been built inside the leg of the bridge that goes high over the street! Worth a visit for that reason only! Also The Crown Posada is just round the corner :-)

Now then, I love it here and go regularly, but I know some people who aren’t so keen! However, I think the food is cheap, reliable and the service is usually spot on. They also make a fuss when it’s your birthday! The mexicana risotto is my personal favourite!!!
