Very old hotel that seems like it used to be some sort of resort. The rooms seem old. The hallway reminds me of The Shining. There’s no elevators here, all the rooms are on the first or second floors. The reception area is nice with a restaurant and bar. There were also some conference rooms but they looked small. The breakfast was a full spread. Eggs, sausage, bacon, tomatoes, beans, etc. Assorted juices, cereal, and fruit.

Having worked in a Hilton hotel when I was younger, I was frankly deluded from this experience. The room was not up to the standard I was expecting. The beds were absolutely uncomfortable. I woke up with a back pain, so did my wife and daughter. Remote not fully working and patched with sealing tape. Some dust and hair left behind. The room we have been given was opposite to the motorway and the insulation was everything but not good. I took ages to fall asleep because of the traffic. The corridor down to the room … The air looks like the one of a vacuum not cleaned in ages. The restaurant was OK. Decent selection of dishes. The only negative note was the Bruschetta that have been served cold, almost frozen with no basil.

This hotel does not have air conditioning in the rooms. The service could be improved and there was mold in the bathroom and the room smells of mold. This was the second hotel in our Globus tour and included dinner which was located in the tightly dining room I’ve ever seen. Would not stay here again. Shame on Hilton — this is not Hilton quality.

Traveling with Globus Travel with seven family members, doing a UK tour, Newport Hilton was our first overnight stop. We were having our«welcome dinner» it was a buffet, when i went back for seconds there was no one serving at the carving station. I waited for a bout 5 minutes finally a sever came out and i asked for a bite of ham which was still on the serving platter along with all the other food under heating lights he said sorry sir the buffet line is closed. He had the attitude of like it or lump it sir! I complained to the resturant manger and our tour guide.

Bates motel or the Shining pick your favorite. Not much to look at as the hotel needs a real overhaul. Red stain on carpet which I HOPE was Ketchup. Huge high tub which I can’t imagine older people using as it would be a slip/trip hazard. If you have noisy neighbors then forget about sleep as walls are paper thin. Beds were not bad however pillows were paper thin too or springy. Looking at reviews from several years ago, my guess is they don’t care or don’t have the money to so? We were with a tour group and they had set up a dinner for us at the hotel. It was the worst meal I’ve had since being in the UK and in the top 5 worst meals of all time. Strange combo of buffet items. I’m thinking they threw together whatever they had leftover from the day and added gravy. The veggies which my guess we’re the frozen bagged kind were inedible. How is that possible? It was. The menu said salmon was going to be served but instead it was dry tasteless cod. On a positive note, breakfast the next day was 100% better!!! Lots of items to choose from no matter what your taste is for breakfast. I would not stay here again mainly for the sole reason it’s run down/dirty. There are other choices in the near area that I would look at before choosing here.

My boyfriend and I stayed here on an August business trip to Wales. His company paid for the hotel, so I can’t speak to the value of our stay. We arrived very late at night and the man working the front desk was very personable. Our initial impression of the hotel was very favorable. The lobby is pretty and well appointed. Our room was a different story. It’s was large and has all of the basic comforts, but it really needed a refurbishment. The décor is like staying in a convalescent hospital. It was musty and the lighting was low, even in the bathroom. Our bathroom had an old fashioned hairdryer in disuse, but still mounted to the wall. The worst part was the bed, which had a thin and springy mattress. I did not get a good nights sleep. We stayed in many hotels on our recent trip, including three Hiltons. Based on quality, one was terrible and one was wonderful… this Hilton fell in the middle. I would stay here again, if I was guaranteed a recently refurbished room.

I used this hotel 3 times, and each time they managed to surpass themselves in the poor quality and poor service stakes. I think they survive on a tour comapny providing American tourists, as each time I stayed they had the restaurant to themselves. Even though it wasn’t full. The hotel wouldn’t let you book in there until after 21:00. I spoke and wrote to the management, and completed their questionnaires. Nothing changed. The list: Calves liver tough as an old boot. Shown to your seat in the restaurant, and then ignored for half an hour. Alternatively, late arrivers are servered first! No one at the bar, sat down and waited for someone to turn up, then all the Americans arrived, three bar staff appeared from nowhere, dealt with the Americans, and then disappeared again, and didn’t get served. Cold plates used for breakfast, had to ask each time for a warm plate. Final straw was ice cold scrambled egg. Placed in my mouth I was almost sick. It felt like eating a lump of fat. The staff the most grumpiest, and miserable crew. In the three times I stayed I did a total of nine days. By comparison at the Hilton Docklands, the second day I was being greeted by my name. In the end I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, not my favourite as I like to eat in, as these don’t offer a restaurant. I’ll do a separate review for the Holiday Inn Newport. Anyway, in the end Hilton offered me 50000 points, which was very good of them, but I would have preferred the better service and food, as I had to work in Newport for several months. Just to complete, when I spoke with the duty manager about what I had experienced, they just listened, and then walked away when I had finished, without making any comment. Bizarre!!!
