As others have said, Fopp in Nottingham hasn’t suffered from the demise and buy-out by HMV: it’s retained its existing fabulous taste and deals on the shelves, its friendly staff, and that slightly untidy corner of interesting books. I can’t fail to leave without having bought 2 – 3 CDs and a book, all for under the price of a new release in HMV. Fab. Long may it continue!

Fopp is the best of all the record shops in Nottingham. You can generally find anything you are looking for there and the prices are pretty competitive. The store is much more focussed on music than it’s owner HMV but there is a good selection of DVDs and books in the store as well. The best thing about Fopp is their cheap CD offers, they always have a selection for £3 or less and you can pick up some real bargains. They also have a lot of CDs and DVDs at £5. It’s worth keeping an eye out for instore performances that happen within the store every now and then.

Fopp is/was great, so I and countless others were gutted when the chain went into administration. But some stores were saved, and this — huzzah! — was one of them. Fopp’s genius is offering back catalogue CDs of a great amount of artists for rock bottom prices, allowing you to snap up the entire oeuvre of, say, Kate Bush, for less than £50. Due to this, it’s almost impossible not to go out without having bought something just because you liked the cover, as it’s all so cheap. New releases are well priced for a high street store too, and the awesome collection of music/culture/cult fiction books is also well worth a butchers.

What can you say about a shop like Fopp. It’s like heaven — sometimes. I really love going in there, and finding a cd that three years ago I almost bought at full-price, only to find that I can now pay £3 for it! However, there is of course the flip-side of this joyous feeling. I do find mostly excellent deals on cd’s, dvd’s, box-sets, t-shirts. They have a surprisingly comprehensive range of cd’s too — I’m a jazz buff(for my sins) and can spend a good hour searching through their collection, without having to just find A Kind Of Blue over and over again — that said, if you do happen to want that album, they are probably selling it for about £3 I paid full-price. Good for christmas presents, and filling the gaps in your own music collection.

Fopp, in my humble opinion, is Nottingham’s best record shop by some distance. In fact, record shop is not a broad enough term, as the store also stocks a good range of books and DVDs. For me, it’s one of those rare places where the buyers seem somehow to have tapped into my own personal tastes. My concerns at the chain’s loss of independence after the takeover by HMV have proved groundless so far and the place has pretty much the same feel that it always had. The front part of the store is predominantly made up of the special offer merchandise, which is usually excellent value, though further into the shop the back catalogue is often not so great in terms of value for money. The staff are excellent. Along with Selectadisc, Fopp is the most important store in Nottingham for the discerning music fan.

When fopp was closed down I was deverstated! all of them cheap cd’s and dvd’s id got in the past, but HMV saved the day, and my favorite music shop is now open for bussiness again! Even though HMV managed to open some of the stores back up, the prices are cheaper than in HMV which is crazy but who cares?! ive been able to finish off alot of my music collections, and even got a richard ashcroft cd for £1 bargain when its £4 on the net plus postage! keep up the gd work fopp!

Funky little place, great for bargain hunting or browsing. Fun for spoiling yourself or for presents, great selection of music CDs and DVDs. The staff are very helpful and it’s very well situated and central in Queen Street which is just off the Market Square. Great!

Fopp, is quite simply, one of the best music shops in the area. The atmosphere is perfect, the staff are friendly, and there is a fantastic selection of music, books and DVDs. An area of the shop is dedicated to organising albums by price, making it incredibly easy to find a bargain, or shop to a budget, and the returns policy is amazing and perfect for music fans. Basically, if you don’t like it, they will exchange it for you. I always pop into Fopp whenever I’m in Nottingham, and its my music shop of choice. 10⁄10.
