I’m reviewing this place as a pub rather than an eaterie, as i’ve only eaten here the once. Still, the lunch was pretty good as I recall.
This pub makes part of the Canning Circus Crew, seemingly ever growing in popularity. A Mini pub craw in this area makes a nice change from the city centre.
The Sir John has a nice atmosphere, and a decent selection of lagers and real ales. Can’t add much more really, it’s an honest pub that you probably won’t ever see a fight break out in. What more do you want?

Sir John is a lovely local pub serving a good variety of drinks and good pub grub. The staff are friendly and if you visit a few times soon get to know you.
The bar is spacious and is a good place to visit with a group of people. It is quite easy to rearrange some of the tables to give everyone room to squeeze in.
They do a good line in chip butties at lunchtimes these aren’t on the menu but make a nice indulgent lunch for £3 or so. They also serve a range of baguettes, jacket potatoes and a variety of main courses that look great. The soup is normally very good too.
