The food here is quite good, and they’re open for snacks in the bar if you just want to grab a quick drink and snack with friends. I would give five stars if the staff were a little more pleasant.

Visiting restaurants during the ‘Christams season’ is something I try to avoid if at all possible. It wasn’t possible! However, a very pleasant, relaxed evening was mine. The service was spot on and the food delicious. Even though it was very busy, there were enough staff to mean we didn’t wait too long for anything. The cost was reasonable considering the time of year and I know they have a normal menu with some good offers. xx

The seemingly ever evolving restaurant that is the Monkey Tree! At one stage is was named Da Vinci’s. It was a really high class fine dining experience. Then it went through a few different stages of development with a restaurant upstairs and a café/bar downstairs. Last summer they opened up in it’s latest format, and they seem to have got it spot on. Now downstairs is a comfy informal café/bar/restaurant with waitress service. The décor is tasteful, and there is an outdoor area with patio heaters for the smokers. The food ranges from light bites to full meals, and is all very reasonably priced and tasty. Upstairs is still a restaurant, and caters for the fine dining experience. You pay more money, but it is an intimate setting with a well constructed and well delivered menu. Smashing!

My sister had her wedding reception here, when it was Da Vinci’s, so we were both disappointed when it changed hands, and when I was here last it seemed to have been given over to the alcopops generation, which put me off a bit. Luckily the restaurant is upstairs and therefore Far from the Madding Crowd. They have a really reasonable set menu, one for lunch and another in the evening. We were there for Sunday lunch once too, and I have to say it was excellent, the roast beef was delicious, but I would have preferred roast tatties too, mash just didn’t seem right. That said, I really like the way they attempt to source as much as possible from local producers. If you are in Nottingham, try crossing that bridge(it’s free you know), and give the Monkey tree a go.
