This used to be a favourite of mine(2012⁄13) but was a bit disappointed on my recent return to Oxford. Saw someone else ordering the Eggs Benedict that still looks great with nice thick cut ham. My English breakfast was a bit disappointing. Bacon was tough as if it had been reheated and baked beans were non heinz in a bland sauce. It’s still a cute rustic venue but food standard seems to have dropped a bit…

The title is amazing! the restaurant is really cute. The menu looks nice. Why just three stars: the service wasn’t great and the food was a bit too greasy. We were seated inside and order coffee plus scrambled egg for my friend and the American breakfast for me. 20min later we were still sitting there without coffee or food. We asked around three waiters about or stuff. The couple next to us, who came in 10min after us, was munching away at that point. We got our food and it was ok. When the bill came they kindly gave us a discount for the long waiting, but they also charged us two coffee we did not have. So we had to talk to them again. Sigh.

Not a great experience — cold coffee that had to be sent back, cold food — I had the sausage sandwich and the bread was rock hard, and very slow service. Wouldn’t return for breakfast, disappointing.

I’m surprised there’s only 3 reviews for this place. It’s really really good. We heard about it for brunch so have been at least three times, all have been really yummy and the service has been over the top friendly and chatty. One of the girls there took the time to explain to me what a proper flat white really was and where they get their coffee. We appreciated the education. Yes, they’re usually busy, but we’ve always gotten a seat w/out much wait. One afternoon we added one of their giant brownies to our bill to take home with us. Holy god. we weren’t disappointed. I’m always stunned by the size of the meringues they make there too. They’re even sparkly. Everything is good, but I really love the eggs benedict and the veggie full English w/the sausages.

Came in here today for brunch around 1:30pm…the place was so busy and there were only 3 – 4 servers. It’s pretty tiny with two floors of crowded seating as well as seating outside, but the décor and ambiance is really cute! We ordered the Oxfork Breakfast which is pretty much analogous to the traditional English breakfast(sausage, bacon, fried egg, grilled tomatoes, grilled portobello mushrooms, and of course baked beans. Since I’m semi-allergic to eggs, I swapped an egg for some spinach which was nice. The beans aren’t like your typical Heinz baked beans… they’ve got a unique flavor, which was nice! Kinda reminded me of chili back in the states. The only problem with the restaurant is the service. Be prepared to wait half an hour for your food to arrive. The tab came to be kinda pricey in the end(beverages aren’t included in the meal set), but I think it was worth it. Next time I’m going to try their gluten-free desserts!

I discovered this place by accident as I had booked to attend a performance at the Pegasus Theatre just further down the road. It looked like a normal café but I noticed that there were people inside and then spotted the sign that they served dinner on Fridays and Saturdays, so I decided to pop in. What a lovely surprise, a truly remarkably welcoming and relaxing atmosphere, the sort of place where you’d like to take your shoes off and spend the rest of the evening with a glass of wine in the company of friends. The menu is very short but this isn’t an issue(indeed, a plus these days) and I had a nice smoked salmon platter followed by a deliciously hearty sausages and lentils casserole, absolutely yummy. As they are licensed you can have some wine or beer. I was too full to have a dessert but I vow to try it again. Well done Oxfork!
