Lovely roast! Best I have ever had(from a pub… or my mum would kill me!!). A good serving of everything with a real«English pub» feel to the place. Really friendly staff and amazing brownies! Glad I live so close

Sunday roast was nice. Would be much better to be sitting in the garden, though it is a small one. Have big screen for live sports activities.

Port Mahon represents my impression of a typical British pub. An array of ages, a pocket bar, a strange stale smell in the air, and disappointing English ales on tap. What more can you want? One of the things this place also has to offer is a small show space upstairs(at reasonable overhead costs too!). The PA is so-so but for a pub-turned-partial-venue, you can’t expect too much.

Any pub that tops up my pint without prompting is off to a good start. And when that pub is the best kept pint of local brew Hook Norton Haymaker I’ve ever tasted, then the effect of that good start just got doubled. I was here to check out local band Go Romano who were playing upstairs, but I took the opportunity to try the food here too. My burger was reasonable and the chips excellent, with skins on. These were topped however by the apple crumble, which was a perfect balance between moist apples and crumble that was not too sweet or floury. It was all pretty good value too: the burger and chips were £7.50 and the apple crumble £3.75. Downstairs, there’s plenty of space to sit or lounge whilst enjoying your beer. There’s also a decent-sized beer garden. Upstairs, there’s room for the band and perhaps 30 people standing up. The only downsides to the pub are that the upstairs room gets very hot and sweaty, and that like many pubs in Oxford, the bar closes at 11pm. But overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the Port Mahon, and would recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy a well-kept pint of local brew, good food or listen to the local musical talent.

Great night at the Port last night. First time I had been in there for years and will be returning soon. Good range of beers and food available. Great atmosphere. The bar staff are very welcoming and I was very impressed that they took the time to speak to a french customer in french !!

Located on St. Clements St, The Port Mahon is a good cosy pub with good beers and a music venue upstairs. Shame it lost it’s Foozball Table, but I think the old pub atmosphere and lively people will go some way to making up for this! A great place for a few beers in the afternoon or a pub crawl in the evening.

Have been to many gigs at the Port Mahon. Have seen Bear in the Air, Los Campesinos! Noah and the Whale, and the Young Runaways(previously The End Game) to name a few. A very small venue which will see u work up a nice sweat but it is not a sweaty venue. If that makes sense. The smallness means intimacy and you can really enjoy the music– as if they are playing in your living room! One of my favourite gigs being Los Campesinos! Where they decided to play longer than planned but the venue turned the sound off so the lead singer belted out the rest of the song acoustic. Small venues can get away with a lot more, I even randomly did the sound tech once– my claim to fame! A very much underrated and under exposed venue. Bar is very well priced as well as Oxford is very much a student town. Rarely more than £4 on the door. For listings your best bet is night shift magazine, or pop and ask for a flyer.

the port mahon is a sunday roast specialist. one of the cheapest places in the whole of oxford for one at 5.95. The food is of liberal size and great quality. and with the ample seating areas the port mahon is a great local. Also famed for its upstairs gigging room, which showcases some of the best up and coming music of oxford as well as some lesser known but extremely likeably folk bands.
