Royal Standard

We went to this pub, it seemed okay nice décor and attitude. Didn’t stick around as no good ciders, and food choices for vegetarians was very generic it’s not very difficult to make tasty food without meat and we’re definitely not all obsessed with health food! Although their menu listing for chilli wrap was hilarious tortilla wrap with beef chilli, salad, sour cream and cheese vegetarian choice subsitute beef for extra salad. Erm, sure, why not I guess.
This definitely isn’t a dive, and the non veggie food looked fine, everyone else there looked happy with what they had, but veggies might want to step down the hill a bit to the Britannia Inn, which is what we just did (take a look at my review the food was really nice!)

This place is awful.
Terrible music and a garish décor greet you and it just gets worse from there.
Was served a blatantly wrong pint of abbot which was churlishly replaced. A table of 10 of us were there for food. The staff seemed incredulous with rage that we would deign to come in in such numbers and then proceeded to be rude, obnoxious and serve really bad food, if any at all. One of our party thought it would be amusing to stick it out and see how long it would take to get served. An hour and 15 minutes, which the staff denied until he produced the receipt which showing it was actually an hour and twenty minutes! incredible. Another amusing one was where a server presented one of our party with a plate of bangers and mash, absolutely nothing near what he had ordered and then got upset that he did not want it! This particular server was a right horror, an effeminate chap, possibly italian.
No need to go here with the FAR superior Britannia being so near.
AVOID

This is a great pub (family run I think), it’s in an ideal location on the London Road and I find it’s pretty busy whenever I go in. There’s a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and it’s how a pub should be. The food is always good and ample portions at low prices. I’ve eaten here at both lunch and dinner times and never been disappointed. Parking can be a bit of a problem, as it’s Headington so probably best to get a bus. Headington is a great place to go for pubs, and I enjoy going here much more than the pubs in town. You get more local people in these pubs and so in my opinion you have a better time and can usually find someone to talk to.
