Darlington Hyde Park

Me quedé en este hotel cuando estuve de visita en Londres con mi padre. Hará unos dos meses. Quedamos muy contentos con la atención y, sobretodo, con la limpieza del lugar.
Normalmente acostumbro a ir a hostel baratos, así que cualquier hotel más o menos me viene bien. Pero eso no quiere decir que este sea cualquier hotel. El Darlington Hyde Park es un hotel sencillo pero eficiente. Cuanta con todos los detalles de un buen hotel.
Tiene un desayuno bastante completo aunque, a mi gusto, faltan algunas opciones como cereales o facturas, pero tienen huevos revueltos y con eso solo yo ya soy feliz. La atención del desayuno es muy buena pero el horario un poco escueto, cierra a las 9.30.
Las habitaciones tienen el tamaño justo para dos personas (al menos en la que estuve yo) y al estar en el último piso tenía una linda vista de los techos de Londres. Además te ofrecen pava eléctrica, té y café.
Esta muy bueno ubicado ya que se encuentra cerca de la estación de Padington y también del Hyde Park. La zona es tranquila pero a dos cuadras de una calle con muchos restaurantes y bares. Volveré cuando pueda pagarlo!

Ok, so the Darlington isn’t one of those places that you stay at when you’re looking to have a classy London getaway. If you’re aiming for decadence or anything in the neighbourhood, it won’t be your cup of tea.
But if you’re aiming for low key, reasonably priced and decent location: this place is aces. I booked a room here for one night while visiting London for work. It came to £140, which for the season and neighbourhood was in and around hostel prices. The room was VERY basic, small and a little dated but the shower was good, the wifi was free and the room was clean. Plus, the staff are absolutely lovely.
Would I recommend this place to folks on their first visit to London? Probably not. But will I stay here again when I have the occasion to be London bound for work and/​or shenanigans? Absolutely.
It’s a solid discount option.

I spent a week in London, and stayed at the Darlington Hyde Park. I decided to stay there because it seemed reasonably priced, and since I was traveling alone, they emphasized how clean and safe the hotel and the neighborhood was.
I booked a single room, which means that it was a small room, with a twin bed. The room itself was an adequate size, with a small closet, and a small, yet efficient bathroom. I knew this going in, so I didn’t feel disappointed.
The bed was not comfortable, I thought it was too firm. And, the shower was really tiny. Other than that, I have a hard time finding anything to complain about. The housekeeping staff did a nice job every day. The room was clean when I got there, and, every day when I returned, it was tidy as a pin. I think the English are known for this.
What completely stood out for me was the amazing breakfast that is included in the price. On the basement level, there is a breakfast room, where an enormous amount of food and coffee is served every day. I had no idea what was in the English breakfast. My first day, I got the full English breakfast. I had coffee, and no sooner did I break into my book, a plate arrived, heaping with two eggs, two pieces of what we Americans would call Canadian bacon, a sausage, baked beans, and grilled tomato. Plus the toast and coffee. OMG. I was pretty hungry and ate most of it — but there is no way I could do that every day. Really nice ladies here, serving the breakfast and bringing the coffee.
The hotel is a few blocks from the Paddington metro and train station. Very convenient for taking the Tube. There is a small elevator, so you don’t have to lug your bags up the stairs, unless you want to.
My room was on the third floor, on the back side of the building, so I had some nice sunlight, and the noise was minimal. However, I noticed that there are rooms in the basement, and on the first floor, which Europeans call floor 0. If noise is an issue for you, I would ask for a quiet room when booking.
All in all, good price for a clean hotel in London.

Vorweg: Ansprüche an Londoner Hotels in dieser Klasse dürfen nicht zu hoch sein. In Berlin oder einer anderen deutschen Stadt hätte es 1 – 2 Sterne gegeben, aber das ist hier nunmal anders.
Die Lage ist prima, in unmittelbarer Nähe der Paddington Station, mit dem Heathrow-​Express also «um die Ecke». Die Adresse steht für viele kleine Hotels in einer Reihe an einer durchaus belebten, nicht aber übermäßig frequentierten Straße. Check-​In funktioniert, das kostenlose WLAN habe ich zwar nicht ans Laufen bekommen, aber das kann auch an mir oder meinem Handy gelegen haben.
Das Zimmer war ortstypisch winzing, allerdings immerhin mit Schrank und Ablagemöglichkeit für den Koffer. Das kleine Bad (Winzwanne) war immer noch ausreichend groß und hatte genügend Ablagemöglichkeiten. Und ziemlich modern, sowohl was Fliesen und Armaturen angeht recht neu, und sauber noch dazu. Alles auf der Haben-​Seite.
Das Fehlen einer Klimaanlage macht sich in den Sommermonaten schon bemerkbar, das Fenster zur Straße (s.o.) muss also offen sein, macht etwas Lärm, geht aber. Sehr schmal das französische Doppelbett: bei kuschligen 28 Grad im Zimmer nicht sooo angenehm.
Alle verfügbare Klimatisierungsleistung landete dann im Frühstücksraum, der zwar im Keller liegt aber dennoch Tageslicht bietet. Das Frühstück vollkommen ok, ebenfalls landestypisch, aber es geht auch karger. Das englische Frühstück in Ordnung.
Es bleibt: die Lage. 10 Minuten zum Hyde Park, zur belebten Edgeware Road mit vielen arabischen Lokalen, zur Oxford Street.
Weiterempfehlung? Hm, vielleicht findet sich was Besseres, aber es gibt bei all den Berichten aus London auch wahrlich Schlimmeres.
