Came with dogs as this was billed as a dog friendly place. Inside at 7PM on a Thursday all the free tables were reserved. Unwelcoming looks at the bar from local staff. Requested hake and chips outside at 11 quid each for me and the wife. After 3 pints at 4 quid a pop and an hour wait we went inside and got served quickly probably because our dogs were slightly conspicuous(2 small terriers no bigger than yourkies) being the only dogs inside. Hake was bland and needed lots of tartar sauce. Onion rings were on the other hand probably the best I have ever tasted Overall, if your a tourist expect shoddy service, expensive prices and overall mediocre fair. If I go to a foreign town and venture into a Witherspoon it least get asked if my food is ok, not here. Bottom line f**k this place, I’ll never come back unless I’m passing and gagging for a pint.

I visited the Dolphin while ‘holed up’ in Penzance harbour escaping from bad weather during a sailing holiday, it was quite convenient. Now while I say I disliked it, the general ambience was rather good and I enjoyed the food but what spoilt it for me was that I was seriously short-changed at the bar and there was little interest in resolving it. I also say that I probably wouldn’t have reported this except for the fact that I met another yachtie in Falmouth to whom the same thing happened some weeks earlier in the same place. The Dock Inn near by while not having quite the food range was nevertheless a most enjoyable friendly traditional pub serving great beers and would be my choice.

A lovely and hospitable pub with a great atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The food is magnificent, the local ales are worth several tries. Whenever I am in Penzance I go to the Dolphin.

This St Austell pub has the perfect pub smell(post smoking ban) — I wonder how to get that… i’d use it at home… or maybe even as a deodorant! In addition the pub looks nice(full of shipping artefacts among other things), has a good layout and was friendly. They also do food and accommodation. And it has a history going back to the 16th century war against the Spanish, with rumours of ghosts and the also that the first pipe of tobacco in England was smoked here(no smoking now of course!). As usual I was only really interested in the beer. No Proper Job here unfortunately but a good pint of Tinners Bitter mostly made up for this.

Nice food, friendly staff, good beer and often busy because of it. Very clean indeed a nice evening out and right next to Penzance’s harbour.

Nice friendly pub, went on a Tuesday night for a meal which was tasty and filling. I had steak which was cooked perfectly and O/H had the vege option of a mushroom dish which he says was very tasty but not very filling.
