The Slug and Lettuce

Somehow it always disappoints.
What age group is this chain aimed at? I can never tell. It get families, young couples, older men nursing a pint have been spotted at 10.30 am. hmmm.
I’ve been in here lots of times for coffee, hot chocolate or drinks. They do these well, if not fantastically. This year I had three meals here. A fairly pleasant lunch, an awful evening meal and a complimentary evening meal to make up for the first one.
So the service is hit and miss, it seems. The last meal there was great but they were doing their best to compensate for the one before. They were almost falling over themselves to make us have a great experience. The staff are pleasant enough, just a bit dingy from time to time. We had been left waiting for ages during our first evening meal…
On the whole the food is good although I feel there isn’t much variety, more like variations on a theme.
One really good point is their shots! Well worth £3!

This is the best branch of Slug and Lettuce I have been in.
The chefs here make a great deal of effort in the presentation and taste of the food served.
The table service from the knowledgeable staff make it perfect for a lazy afternoon chat with friends.
The big windows and sofas make it ideal for a spot to watch the world go by.
