I stayed at the inn and enjoyed it. Dining at the restaurant was interesting, with some inconsistencies. The balmoral chicken(wrapped in bacon and stuffed with haggis) was delicious and the cullen skink(smoked haddock, potatoes and onions in a cream soup) was so insanely good I would wake up at night for a secret sneaky serving of it… but my advice to them would be to change their sides, which are just unseasoned baby carrots and pees… they have the skills to do much better. They have a GREAT local band who look and sound like Scottish sailors(or maybe pirates?), their music is wonderful. The whole ambiance is fabulous. Definitely perfect for a few beers!

The space where they serve food is small, slightly smaller overall than the side where they serve beer/drinks. It is a very cool pub, but the food is truly higher end than any standard pub I’ve been in before. It offered great options for the meat eaters steaks, fish, burgers, etc. And surprisingly, very tasty options for the vegetarians. We had the bean burgers which were good. The peas, carrots, tomatoes and other vegetables served as sides or garnishes were all fresh and delicious. You can’t go wrong with the Isles Inn.

Our guide book(Rough Guides, Scotland, 2011) advised that this was the place for nightlife in Portree. We don’t disagree. Between the crowd waiting for and coming from the Isle of Skye Pipe Band performances in the square on Tuesday nights, the US Open or other sporting contests on Sky, and the live music(featuring 2 accordions and a snare drum), it was packed(probably more with tourists). By the time we left around 10pm, there wasn’t a seat or spot to stand on the bar side. However, their beer selection was unimpressive — only one ale, nothing local. And they didn’t even have ginger beer, just Schweppes ginger ale. For the pregnant lady staring longingly at her husband’s whisky, Schweppes just doesn’t cut it.

A very nice and cozy place … with a burning wood stove in September! Tells you a little bit about the weather in this part of Scotland … cold! I would classify this as a gastro-pub. The pub as mentioned really cozy and the restaurant stylish with a very interesting menu. Nice and quiet atmosphere and friendly people!

The mussels were excellent; the fish and chips fine; the steak and ale pie though, was quite salty. It’s a no nonsense local pub where people come to the bar with their dogs, adding an element of charm for those of us from ‘away’. It’s busy and a bit cramped, but the service was prompt and polite. Stick with the local seafood and you’ll not be disappointed.

What a find! This was accommodation of the trip. We had the top two rooms at the Inn. Having wondered about the noise from the pub below, it was not a problem as the music stopped at midnight and the locals were not too rowdy in going home. The staff could not be more helpful. The only few problems were; wi-fi kept cutting out; The rooms did not seem very secure with only Yale type locks and the same type of lock on the front door. But otherwise the price and location were brilliant. If you can’t park outside the inn there is a free long stay behind the IndependentHostel opposite the inn, across the square. I would stay here again.
