Nice place great views form the huge balcony. I agree that the food is average but than again I do not think anybody comes here because of the food, or the drinks. Its the view and the place that really makes it special + Richmond is a nice area and they are quiet some good pubs near.

We decided to head out of London to Richmond for the afternoon and stumbled across this great bar with its lovely terrace which overlooks the river. Service was great and we managed to get two free drinks through the Pitcher and Piano website! Bonus! The atmosphere was great and everyone was having a great time on this sunny day.

If you find yourself in Richmond searching for nightlife without paying for a rip-off cover charge down the street to socialize and dance in a room as big as your bathroom, this is probably your best bet. No cover charge and the drinks are decent. I have had lunch here and it was nothing to write home about — very mediocure and a bit pricey for the quality.

We went on a Saturday night just to sit in the sun and enjoy a couple of drinks and nibbles before going off to find dinner and may I say the sun brings everyone out. It was absolutely heaving in there, the whole outside was packed with people not a table free! But it was absolutely lovely. We sat upstairs until a table was free on the balcony and it was gorgeous. I would say they were possibly under staffed as there was a long wait to order drinks but it was very very busy! The menu looked rather lovely there was a good mix of food on there from tapas like nibbles to mains and puddings! We ordered a couple of nibbles, some skin on chips, goats cheese balls and calamari and they were delicious! Although the place was heaving and there were a fair few people eating there wasn’t a wait on the food and it was very delicious! They have gorgeous cocktails too! Would definitely recommend to people maybe on a quieter night but it’s nice to see people enjoying the sun!

Always good deals during the week and plenty of space /seats in the winter! Not so empty in the summer! But good atmosphere in the sun

This bar is in a beautiful setting, right by the river. The building is gorgeous, making for a classy looking venue and they’ve utilized the outside space to make a lovely outdoor seating area. Large heaters and parasols make it useable at night and I’m sure it’s just lovely on a sunny day too. The drinks are reasonably priced, and they’ve recently updated their cocktail menu and include some exciting combinations. Unfortunately for us the staff hadn’t undertaken much training so when we ordered a couple of unusual drinks, they took a very long time to make them. I’ve also never had so much salt poured all over the glass of a margarita. Saying that, they were still very tasty. The bar has an upstairs, downstairs and outside seating area. Upstairs seemed quite chilled and downstairs had a slightly more upbeat vibe. We only had a couple of drinks there, but I’d be more than happy to make a night of it at this bar!

I had high expectations of this place as it looked classy from the outside as I drove by. Although the service was really good, I found it to be like any other British pub but with less options on the menu. I had the rump steak which was about £8 and a big portion-I usually finish my food but I couldn’t. The wine however was the same price as the steak! What?! That’s crazy! What helps this pub is it’s location. In any other location, it would be a standard pub. The décor and setting make it seem more up market than it actually is. I won’t complain about the food as it was tasty and cheaper than the competitor, Bill’s. If there was a half star, I would rate it 3.5 but I had a good time and the atmosphere was really nice. I would go back for an affordable meal over summer but not for a special occasion.

Fantastic location, awful establishment. It’s almost as bad as drinking in an All Bar One. If you can get out on the terrace in the summer time, then it’s worth four stars for the lovely view, but that’s got everything to do with the great riverbank in Richmond and nothing to do with the bar itself. Avoid in the winter.

I recall taking my mom here for lunch a couple of years back on a Saturday lunchtime at the end of August. The food is OK and reasonably priced. It was crowded especially the bar area. We had dinner upstairs were it was quieter, the service was a little slow. They should hire more staff during high season. Richmond on Thames is an upscale prime tourist and college student town. The restaurant right on the Thames. This place is all about location, location, location and not the service or food. I’d almost prefer to go here just for drinks. Good bar!

Sunday lunch. Everywhere else was jammers. The p&p had a quiet table for us with a view of the river. The French lemonade was perfect for a hangover and a great alternative to booze. The burgers were delish and stacked high. The Geordie waitress was the right combination of friendly and efficient. It was a sanctuary for the self inflicted sore heads.

as pretentious as you can get. Worst pub on the river maybe even in Richmond. Service is really bad, courtyard is over crowded with too many tables and chairs. Over priced, poorly made cocktails. Avoid at all costs, there’s plenty more to choose from less than 30 seconds away.

Really like this place. Lovely outside area right on the river. Sharing platters are yummy and the puddings aren’t too bad. Definite place to go in the summer to enjoy the sun without having to find a small space on the busy green in front of the river. Can get busy but I you find a space to relax you won’t want to leave.

As below I agree with Cari, this could be any pub and people would go to it purely because of it’s location(It is a great location). It was a very sunny day and there was a queue to sit outside in the patio area. We waited about 15 mins and finally got a seat. Our waiter was really nice and we got really good service. We ordered bruschetta and it wasn’t the best bruschetta, they added pesto to it and it just wasn’t your average bruschetta. We also added potato skins and they were pretty tasty. For the mains I ordered a pasta dish(The veggie options aren’t fantastic) the pasta dish was good(You can’t really go wrong with pasta) nothing amazing, lacked flavour but it was good. Overall I would come here again :) but I would make sure I got there early to get a good spot.

I completely agree with Cari S below on this one… The only thing that this place has going for it is the location. It really couldn’t be any better for this area and it’s got one of the top spots overlooking the river. If the sun is setting then these guys have a height advantage over their immediate neighbours and you’ll get some decent(although unoriginal) photographs. Unfortunately on Friday and Saturday nights this place is let down by scum bags on the lash with the sole mision to drink, shag and vomit. If the manager or P&P HR is reading this… — Hire more staff in the summer, your employees are working like absolute slaves! — And also… clean the pavement after you leave your dripping wet stinking bin bags all over it and get your customers to piss and vomit inside the building! Perhaps you should get one of those overworked bartenders to rinse it down with hose each night, or better still, do it yourself? There you go, feel free to think I’m a dick but be aware that it’s not just my opinion.

Just went to Pitcher and Piano yesterday on a much warmer day… it’s true the patio fills out pretty quickly when it’s nice out but if you can get there in time it is lovely! Also their fish and chip weren’t too bad either… I’m pretty sure they use the cheapest fresh fish possible so it’s not as good as it could be but the crust around it is very crunchy(which I like) so it balanced out the mediocre fish for me. Staff was also gracious and attentive, maybe I just got lucky but I saw no issue with their efforts either.

Beautiful spot for the summer evenings. DJ at weekends and table service. Good views of the river, food menu extensive.

The problem that this Pitcher and Piano has is that no one goes here because they want to go to a Pitcher and Piano, they are coming because this place occupies the top spot on the Thames. So really, it could be any pub. Because they have it so easy here– this place is teeming with people at most points of the evening, and all through the weekend — the pub does not make much of an effort. I can’t say that I blame them. I have been here when it has almost felt overrun; if I were bar staff I wouldn’t know where to start. I tend to avoid this place in the evening. On a summers night, and sometimes on a weekend, it can feel quite rowdy. If you pick your times right, you can get a table over looking the Thames, and sit with your glass of wine or beer and enjoy the view, but other than that, I would suggest that you keep walking and look for somewhere else.

An amazing venue located on the banks of the River Thames and Richmond bridge this really should be something very special, an upmarket restaurant run and owned by a celebrity chef maybe? — Afraid not it’s a Pitcher and Piano. And not a very good one either. Such an amazing venue with two floors and a wonderful patio area over looking the Thames on a stretch of river that is the place to be for the Richmondites in the summer. I always go here in the summer because it is a great venue and a good place to meet up with people on a nice hit sunny day. Generally things are o.k. but you just feel that it could be much better. I have been to better P&P’s and they don’t have the river to attract literally thousands of people over a week-end — maybe this is the problem, they can make money without trying. Come P&P — this should be your flagship location !! A-o.k for venue — could do better for the pub.

This is a great venue to enjoy a cold beverage or two if you enjoy chilling by the river in the summer. A great view over the River Thames and the green, highly recommended on a hot summers’ evening.

The Pitcher and Piano has a fantastic location in Richmond, right near the Richmond Bridge with a large, sunny, outdoor deck. The main problem is that there is the service. It’s terribly slow and somewhat inconsistent. I’ve been there twice on weekday lunches where the bar wasn’t too busy, however both times, the service was lacking(even when we had pre-ordered). The food itself is ok, not good, not terrible, however there are plenty of other pubs and eating places in Richmond to get a good meal, reasonable service and have a nice day.
