The Bull Inn is a bit of a beast to find, tucked away in the pedestrian area of town, just off the very confusing one way system! However, they seem pretty used to patrons getting lost and are very skilled at guiding you in via the telephone! Having eventually found them we were shown to our top floor room and the given directions to the closest NCP car park — at £7 for 24 hours it’s not too pricey. The room itself is newly decorated to a good standard. It’s not flashy in any way but good value at £60 per night given it’s central location. The bathroom could have done with a bit of a facelift though, carpet on the floor and a shower with no temperature dial and that’s hard to turn off are a bit disappointing. We stopped in for a drink before bed — it wouldn’t be my first choice for an evening drink but at least it was a short stagger up the stairs to bed! Breakfast next morning was tasty and filling with a full English on offer plus a good selection of fruit, yogurts, cereals and pastries. Overall, the great location, value for money and the super friendly staff warrant The Bull Inn four stars.

Not vouching for the temperature of the wine but I like the bull, they always have a selection of cask ales and the bar staff are nice and friendly. A secluded decking area out the back doesn’t catch much sun but there is always a good bunch of people out there. The Sunday roasts are large fresh portions severed with a good selection of vegetables. If you are near by on a lunchtime the doorstep sandwiches are delicious.

Nice old building, shame it’s totally bland inside. Warm white wine. Outside area with seating.
