When you see comic book shops in films, they’re always somewhat trendy even if they’re not particularly glamorous or eye-catching. Consequently in real-life they always seem somewhat of a disappointment. From the outside, Planet Eater would seem to be one of those places, with its shop front looking somewhat run down and old-fashioned. Upon entering, the inside follows a similar pattern, with the shop more resembling someone’s living room and back room rather than a comic book shop. However, despite its lack of pleasing aesthetics, Planet Eater is definitely one of the more interesting shops in the Southport area. Amongst the numerous big chains that now swamp Southport, it’s pleasing to see a small, local businesses like Planet Eater still around. The shop is filled with boxes and boxes of various comics that are split up into various sections which are helpful, but still leave you needing to root around(that’s all part of the fun though, really) and their selection of comics and DVDs is very impressive. The staff there are helpful without hounding you too much, letting you browse for as long as you need whilst being there if you need them. Their prices are also ridiculously cheap, with my friend picking up 3 Battlestar Galactica comics for a pound each(you might not know what that is, but it’s a great price believe me). A hidden gem and a great place to go if you’re a comic book enthusiast.
