Anchor Inn

The Anchor at Walberswick is a very beautiful and cosy Pub & Diner where my wife and I had dinner on Thursday to celebrate my birthday.
They served a delicious fish platter as a starter and we had chosen a nice New Zealand Riesling from their good wine card.
Up until then everything has been almost perfect, very friendly service and a relaxing atmosphere. But then something happened which is an absolute no-​go. I had a fishcake as main and when I have taken the first bite it was so unbelievable hot that I have burnt my tongue, it was so terrible. Even now, almost 24 hours later, it still hurts. I can’t drink a coffee without pain.
I guess that a very inexperienced person in the kitchen heated the cake too long in a microwave. It’s the only explanation for this extrem temperature, I never experienced this before (and I hope will never again).
This is the reason why there should be a ban for microwaves in kitchens. An US American would have sued them for damages.
Nevertheless I rate three stars because it is a lovely inn and I hope they read it and will change something that this will never happen again.

Stay one night here in their lovely eco sheds. A little over priced perhaps considering what you got.
Lovely place to stay with easy access to the beach (less than 7m walk). Dinner consisted of Oysters (starter), Fish Cakes and chips. The oyster were exceptional, best I’ve tasted. The fish cakes were lovely. I was impressed to see not just wine, but beer and ciders being paired with menu items. The cheese board was very good too.
Service lacked the little personal touch. The dinner staff seemed a bit rushed and short (but not rude).
I had a full English for breakfast, nothing out of the ordinary but still nice.
Despite the detractors, I would go again. The place is charming, but then again so is the county.

Finally someone got it right.
Profesional service, and good staff.
Both wines and Food are great, very well priced, not many people have yet to discover in this area that f you are in the Service Industry «you have to give service», and they do this very well. Always recommended.

This was raved about by people who had stayed at the accomodation we were in. It definitely is worth a visit. The food was lovely, the outside space well kept, and the staff very friendly.
We went with our baby girl, and inevitebly she needed changing. The facilities were well stocked with wipes and nappies, so if you were caught short of supplies, it would have certainly been a huge help.
This attention to detail certainly elevated it’s rating for me.
It’s certainly worth the trip out if staying at one of the other main seaside towns.

Lovely little pub in Walderswick with very simple but tastey menu and friendly service. Definitely worth a visit and nicer than anything in Southwold nearby.
