Had a friend who makes frequent trips to Scotland and when we knew we were coming up this way he said we had to try this place for the best meat pies. We drove an hour out of Glasgow to get here and it was worth the drive. We sampled a couple different pies but by far the best was the chicken curry pie. If I had more cash we would have gotten another two or three. If your going through here you need to stop and grab one. You will not be disappointed.

We had the Piemaker in Edinburgh and thought that was pretty good, but then we hit Aberfoyle Delicatessen and we were like… ISTHISWHATPIEISSUPPOSEDTOTASTELIKEBECAUSETHISISAMAZING! We had the haggis and mash pie, mac n’ cheese pie, something else I forget that was good, and then the cornish pasty. Can we sit down for a minute to talk about cornish pasties? Amazing. Meat and veggies cooked into a lovely juicy mix inside flake golden crusts of goodness. On days when my office A/C is running too cold, and I am really hungry, I still think of this pasty. It is wonderful, heavenly, and I want the ability to summon one at will. Mac n’ cheese pie was DELICIOUS not too dry. Loved every bite. We also bought some blackcurrant jam to take home for ourselves and our friends. Blackcurrant is not a popular flavor in California(U.S. overall?) and I’m a big fan of it, so this was great! 100% satisfied with the jam. Super thick. Super yummy. Lots of fruit bits you can taste. Service is also super friendly. I asked for a fork to eat one of my pies and the guy joked with me telling me that that wasn’t the proper way to eat a Scottish pie. You just gotta get in there with your hands and mouth! I was for that! Good advice!

On our tour to the country side today my brother-in-law and I needed to stop for some nourishment and this is apparently the go to place on your way to the Highlands. I grabbed a steak pie and a macaroni and cheese pie and what a treat the latter was. Who would have thought a pie could get any more carbs in it. I would say that the former was average. My brother-in-law has a super delicious sandwich of venison sausage. Wish I had gotten that. This is a probably the best place in town and you are rewarded for being adventurous.

Adorable little delicatessen in the adorable little town of Aberfoyle! This delicatessen is the kind of place my dad would have taken me to as a kid to get a sandwich or snack. Big glass counters and displays full of fresh meats and cheese, all cheering at me saying ‘EATME”. We stopped here for lunch during the Hairy Coo Tour and it was recommended as one of the best eats in Aberfoyle. The place was packed with all types of people, young and old, tourists and blue collar workers. You could just tell when you walked in the door that it was going to be good. We ordered a couple of hot item from the counter including a haggis pie, a roast beef sandwich, and a macaroni and cheese pie. YES. A MACARONIANDCHEESEPIE. What Southerner from the US wouldn’t seem that on the menu an instantly order it?! It was probably the most awesome thing I ate on this trip. This wasn’t no Marie Callender’s frozen chicken pot pie. This was a delicious flaky pie crust stuffed with delicious macaroni and layered with ooey-gooey cheese inside and on top. I topped off the meal with a Fiery IRN Bru soda. If you’ve never had a Fiery IRN Bru, it taste like a Fanta with cayenne pepper. Refreshing, eh? Overall, a hands-down, awesome delicatessen. Really glad we decided to stop in and savor in all it’s delicatessen goodness!

Everything is freshly made here and very reasonable in price. The local meats were simply amazing. Lovely spot for takeaway lunch.

We ate here on recommendation of our tour guide for the Hairy Coo tours(who ate there with us). It was absolutely delicious, and quite cheap. The hamburgers are made to order and taste fresh off the grill(as they are); the various pastries such as chicken curry pies, pasties, etc are all made with obviously high quality meat and taste good. The delicatessen is also a butcher’s shop so that may explain the high quality meat. The food is very cheap too(the biggest burger came out to 4 pounds 50). If you are close by it is worth stopping for lunch.
