have eaten take away from here on a couple of occasions. The first was two years ago and it was really good. Had another from there las year it was just terrible, a lamb dish, I’m not joking, the lamb was so tough and tiny strange tasting piesces I couldn’t eat it. We were really disappointed as had been looking forward to it. There are so many similar restaurants in Swansea I don’t think I’ll bother with Mumbai again.

Great surroundings and very pleasant staff. Usualy go for the Sunday buffet which is plentifull in choice, around 15 main dishes including 3 Thai choices. Apart from the mains there are plenty of side dishes, such as onion barji chicken tandoori, naan bread and chuckeny of various kinds. As with all buffet type food it can be a bit hit or miss as far as the freshness of certain dishes is conserned, but if you are not in a hurry just keep an eye open for when they change the dishes and the food is A1. At £7.90 per head it is amazing value.

We Visited the«Mumbai» restaurant Oystermouth road, Mumbles, Swansea, on a Sunday evening, the buffet evening. We rang first to make sure that we wouldn’t be arriving too late for the buffet .We were told that the buffet ends at 10PM& is replenished continually until this time. We arrived a little after 9PM& were seated by a polite waiter who greeted us at the door. The foyer/bar/entrance area smelt VERY strongly Of ciggarette smoke as if someone had been smoking there or in the kitchens to the right, which wasn’t an impressive start. We weren’t the last to arrive as a few tables came in after us. It wasn’t crowded but far from empty. We started to go up to the buffet to eat. A few of the dishes were all sauce with no meat even though they were labelled as dishes containing meat. I asked politely if they could replenish these dishes so that they contained meat. Of the several waiters on the floor none appeared to speak English very well. A waiter came to our table after we sat down & very brusquely asked what it was I was after. So i re-explained it too him that there were a few dishes that should contain meat that didnt & showed him the trays that were just sauce he muttereed about waste & went into the kitchen. There was by now an escalating palpable feeling of un-ease & tension. The staff serving in the restaurant were un-friendly & intimidating & it appeared that this was now the intention. We really weren’t enjoying the experience by now as it became apparent by the several waiters attitude that we had done something wrong & weren’t welcome. A waiter stood on my right hand side as we sat eating staring at me for at least 3 minutes which made me feel very un-comfortable. I noticed him doing this by my peripheral vision before I turned held his unerring stare & asked if there was something wrong he just said he was tired & walked off. After finishing some of the food i had sampled I went & was just browsing at the tickets to see what I fancied to sample next when a waiter strode up & flicked the label hard & very abruptly exclaimed«LAMB» which is one of the dishes I had asked for to be re-plenished. There was no mistaking this hostility. I immediately went back to my girlfrienfd & said we should leave we went to the desk which now smelt even stronger of ciggarette smoke & asked for the bill. The polite waiter who initially greeted us & seated us asked if everything was allright to which I said«No the staff were rude & that I wanted to pay my bill & get out of the restaurant».They seemed to be concerned but I made it clear I just wanted to pay & leave. This was by far the most un-pleasent hostile eating experience I have ever had & I am now 48. It felt like being the new inmate in a prison yard. I will never go there again & I would strongly advise others not to. A VERY dissappointing experience & we had been really looking forward to visiting the restaurant.

I went there last week. Great atmosphere. Lovely food, beautifully presented and very attentive waiters. There were lots of happy customers. We got there for 7pm(I know it’s a bit early) but the place is sooooo busy all the time and it was packed even then. I loved, loved, loved the bollywood film showing on the projector. There were two of us for dinner and with wine it came to £33.00. Very reasonable. Highly recommended.

Five star service, the Mumbai is a really nice Indian restaurant and shines through in the quality of its food and authentic taste. Service is excellent and always with a smile which does enhance the dining experience. There are quite a few Indian restaurants in Swansea but this one is up there in the top five without any hesitation. Not to hard on the wallet either which is great.

Mumbai is pretty good but a bit over-rated. Nice surroundings and probably the best in the area(Mumbles)

This is a classy indian restaurant, just opposite the Lido at Blackpill(set back from Mumbles road). It is really modern inside with classy interior design and high quality crockery, cutlery and of course food. The atmosphere is intimate, and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. The food is amazing, and though the prices are a bit higher than you may usually pay for a curry, it is definitely worth it. If you want to take your girlfriend out for a romantic dinner, and fancy a curry, this is the place to go. Definitely recommended. Parking is OK(I’ve never actually had a problem), but there’s not much space. Make sure you book if you’re going at the weekend. They also do take away if you want to try the excellent food at home.

A lovely Indian restaurant not far from the sea front. We had a great meal here with some friends. It wasn’t too expensive and was quiet enough to talk. Attractive surroundings and friendly, pleasant staff. Lots of vegetarian choices too. Definitely somewhere to take friends for a lovely meal.

Arrived Sunday evening and was disappointed it was buffet. But the food was just great with a much better than average choice by far. Price was excellent also. Thoroughly recommended!

This lovely little property at the bottom of what used to be my road went through a series of different identities before finding success. It was a few different pubs, a classic British restaurant and just a building at various times, before the smart guys who now run it, came and opened up a classy Indian restaurant. It was opened as ‘Bombay Spice’ and took only a few weeks before establishing itself in Swansea as one of the premier spots for a curry. It was done out very tastefully, and was one of the first of its kind — the modern Indian restaurant, which is now so popular across Britain — decorated in a fashionable, clean style with few references to Indian culture. The food expresses the culture all by itself. Excellent Indian food. That’s it, basically. Great service and lovely surroundings. When the capital of India changed from Bombay to Mumbai, the restaurant kept up and changed its name too. They also opened another restaurant with the same principals of excellent, authentic Indian food, good service and trendy décor in St Helen’s Road, and that has been equally successful. Obviously it is a very popular place for my old household to go to, because there is a 2 minute walk home. Otherwise, there is some free parking available.
