An amazing venue for a wedding. I attended my cousins wedding here. The impressive castle grounds and surrounding greenery add to a perfect picturesque scene. The castle is very large, with dark, dingy corridors, hidden rooms and and a very historical yet luxurious feel. This five star venue has the capacity to hold a large number of guests, the function room with dance floor and seating is set out very well. There were jars of pick and mix sweets, which was a very unusual yet cool concept. A full hog roast was provided with stuffing, potato wedges, baguettes and apple sauce, one tasty hog indeed. The bar was situated in a hall area where food is served, which is fantastic if you want a break from the music and dancing to get a quiet drink and chat. Such an enchanting venue, peacocks roaming the grounds, benches and a real VIP feel to the place. I recommend it.

I was invited to my cousins very posh wedding reception here, it is literally in the middle of nowhere, so very private. I arrived by coach, and it literally just about got under the entrance archway… there was probably an inch clearance and in retrospect the driver shouldn’t have attempted it. However we got in and I’m really glad that we did as it would have been a very long walk up to the castle from the entrance. But it is something to consider if booking it as a wedding venue. The grounds and castle are spectacular, and the castle has been well maintained and shows off its original features really well. The castle is a bit of a warren inside with lots of winding corridors and staircases, got a little lost a few times. But there are so many interesting things to see like paintings, tapestries and grand fireplaces. To be honest it felt a little like being on the set of Harry Potter lol. We found a little hidey hole with lots of comfy chairs to have a cosy natter when our feet got tired from walking in heels. The event hall, where the wedding took place was a reasonable size it was small enough to make the ceremony feel quite intimate, but still fitted around 100 people. This then became the dance floor for the evening reception, there was still space for a DJ, a live band and several tables for seating. The bathrooms were very clean, however they were located down several stairs so may have been difficult for elderly relatives. The bar area was tucked out of the way, in quite a long and slightly narrow room, but that was good if you were in a small group as you could hear each other speak… or at least you would have if the music from the band wasn’t so loud. All in all it was a great experience, I probably wont ever be able to afford to book a place like this, however for the more affluent amongst us, it is a beautiful location and a beautiful venue.
