I’m going to give this place another try sometime. I went there yesterday after meaning to go for months! I have a friend who is really in to Korean food and he has long been suggesting I try Namul, which serves a Korean dish known as ‘Bibimbap’. It’s basically rice with a variety of meat/veg/sauce that comes in a metal bowl — served to you ready for you to mix it all up yourself! I went for the Beef Bulgogi. It was tasty, but because I hadn’t had Bibimbap before, I didn’t know what to expect. Everything was cold! The beef, the mushrooms, the egg, the veggies — all cold, including the rice. I contact my friend who knows more about Korean food to check whether it should be served this way, and apparently it does! Hot rice with cold toppings… apart from in my case, the rice was also cold. Hmm. If I had known earlier, I may have sent it back. It was tasty though! I also discovered that I cannot abide the taste of Shitake mushrooms! Never having those again.

I’m a big fan of Namul. I probably go here about once a week on my lunch break and really enjoy the selection of Bibimbap dishes they have. When choosing, you get a choice of one rice type [out of three], which type of meat or the veggie tofu option, along with a sauce. Along with the rice and meat/tofu, it also comes packed with all sorts of tasty veggies. Easy! The staff are also super friendly and fast at getting your order out to you, be it takeaway, or to have in. The seating area both out the front and downstairs in the courtyard are also really cute too! Recommended for anybody who wants some tasty quick food.

This is an awesome little place! :) I’ve walked right past it many a time and never really realised what wonders lie within!!! Firstly, the people that work here are totally awesome — very chatty and genuine — just the kind of people that you enjoy giving business to. I had a green smoothie and a chicken Bibimbap to go. The smoothie was very green indeed! I loved it, but be warned — this tasted like veggies. It’s not one of those healthy smoothies that hides behind sweet, fruity tastes — it fully embraces it’s healthiness, rocking the broccoli and spinach unashamedly, so if you don’t like your smoothie to taste to ‘green’ then this one isn’t for you! They have plenty of tasty options, so perhaps go for one of the other smoothies insetead! As for the chicken Bibimbap(which I horrendously mispronounced, might I add) this was very tasty! I’d never really had this sort of thing before, so it took me a few minutes to get used to the flavours, but once I got past that it was a very good take-away meal. The portion was massive and they’d packaged it all up really nicely, making it easy to take to a park and eat in the sun without any bother or mess. There were so many other things that I would have happily tried in here! They had amazing looking fresh sushi up for grabs which, though a little pricier than elsewhere, did look rather great. I’m sure that I’ll be back here! Next time you’re walking past, pop in and see what you think! :)

A really tasty and inexpensive meal that will fill you up! The shiitake mushrooms are supberbly seasoned and the kimchi is some of the best I’ve had. I also like that there’s an option for sticky black rice as the base. It’s a tiny place with only one six person table inside(plenty of outdoor seating) and they do takeaway. It’s very vegan friendly too!

Namul is a great addition to Brighton’s world food scene. Sometimes we seem like we are a little lacking on cuisine from other countries but Namul has brought Korean food to the seaside. They occupy a fairly small building snuggled in between other cafes and eateries on the eclectic Gardner Street, and it made for the perfect place to grab a bite to eat before watching a gig at Komedia. There is only one table inside, but quite a few outside — perfect for this lovely summer weather we are currently enjoying, but I’m guessing it will be more of a take away joint come the winter months. Namul specialises in bibimbap dishes — you chose your main dish, add a sauce and any extra toppings, and can even change your rice for a small supplement. I tried the spicy beef with black rice and soybean sauce on this occasion. The flavour combinations were fantastic with just the right level of spiciness. I shared a bowl with my other half and there was plenty of food. My brother had the chicken version which was also really tasty. My only complaint is that they forgot our tofu topping, but they did bring this out separately when we questioned it. Overall, a fantastic addition to Gardner Street and I’m very much looking forward to trying more of the menu.

Namul is a Korean Bibimbap takeaway(and tiny eat-in) establishment located in Gardner Street in the North Laines in Brighton. It opened last month(June 2013) and it is a fantastic little find! They serve Bibimbap — Korean rice bowls, Sashimi, Sushi rolls, salads, miso soup and other such delights. The Bibimbaps are their speciality and they are absolutely delicious. You chose a rice(white, brown or black), toppings(veggies, chicken, fish, beef) and then a sauce(chilli, soy, soybean or black goma [sesame]). You can either customise your own Bibimbap or chose from one of the various set options like Mushroom, Tofu, Spicy Chicken or Beef Bulgogi. The Bibimbaps are utterly delicious, packed with loads of fresh veggies, meat(if you want it), rice and very tasty sauces. I recommend the Spicy Chicken Bibimbap with black rice and black goma sauce. And get a Korean miso soup whilst you’re at it — it’s delicious and a little different to the more well known Japanese miso soups. Service is quick(as long as there isn’t a huge queue), the staff are friendly and very helpful and the food is delicious and different. I highly recommend. P. S. It’s mainly a takeaway establishment — great for a quick lunch. There’s only one large table inside but during the summer months there are plenty of tables outside as well.
