Red Lion Hotel (London)

Un des lits les plus blancs et les plus moelleux jamais testé. Impressionnant de blancheur et de douceur. Au réveil, vous avez fait une cure de jouvence.
Bön petit-​déjeuner très varié, par contre la carte du dîner est un peu sommaire et vite chère.

For 130 pounds a night (and that was a company’s agreed price) I am expecting way better.
The reception is not the most professional, very house style. Rooms are all a long a very long corridor on two floors… kind of a long maze… with no clear indications where rooms are… and form your number you would never guess it is still at the ground floor.
The room itself was spacious, but the bathroom definitely needs a very good revamping. Bathtub with shower curtain … NO… and no air sucking fan… steam and the rest linger in the bathroom for LONG time.
But the above are still OKish … the worse were the noises. From the corridor, form the rooms beside, from the yard. from the rooms above… I really do not have troubles falling asleep but I got woken up many many times… that is really not nice.
The room had most of the usual amenities, but a really small LCD TV hanging from the wall. .gneee… not nice.
Bed was very very soft… too soft.
Te breakfast, full English one, part of the price was good, even if the area where you dine is really cramped up with tiny tables and very closed to each other. The service at the table was quite sloppy. Multiple people asking for the same thing multiple times and clearly disorganized.
WiFi is free, but it is just a connection to a WiFi router… then you barely get any connection to the internet… better to have to pay and rely on a good service.

Ganz schönes Hotel im Country-​Style an einer viel befahren Hauptstraße ca. 20 Min fußläufig (8Pfund Taxi) zum Zentrum von Oxbridge gelegen.
Es gibt einen ganz urigen Pub (mit Bar-​Food) und ein Restaurant. Die Zimmer sind recht neu renoviert, aber auch recht klein. Das Bad ist ok, wenn man nicht all zu groß ist :-)
Das Bett hatte leider eine ganz fiese Matratze mit Federkernen. Einige von diesen Biestern haben sich nachts schön in meinen Körper gerammt… :-/​Die Zimmer haben Klimaanlage bzw. Heizung. Achtung: wenn die Fenster geöffnet werden, geht die nicht aus…
Das Hotel bietet ein ganz gutes freies WiFi. In der letzten Woche ist das leider 2 x total ausgefallen, aber das Personal war sehr bemüht das zu lösen… der externe Dienstleister offensichtlich nicht ganz so… das war etwas nervig…
Das Essen in der Bar war ok und im Restaurant habe ich 2 x sehr gut gegessen. Das Personal war immer sehr freundlich und aufmerksam.

Nettes «ländliches Hotel» mit gemütlichem Pub und Restaurant. Recht moderne gut ausgestattete Zimmer.
Hier findet Abends jeder den richtigen Platz — auf ein schnelles Bier an der Theke oder ein ordentliches Abendessen im Restaurantbereich!
Hier meine Ergänzungen für meinen letzten Aufenthalt.
Ich ziehe 2 Punkte ab weil:
1. An mehreren Tagen stundenlange Ausfälle des WLANs — das Personal und der Chef hilflos der Support des Anbieters inkompetent — das geht für mich gar nicht — ich bin beruflich auf Internetverbindung angewiesen.
2. Wir wollten in der Gruppe (20 Personen) Abends Essen — am selben Tag war das trotz Anfrage am Morgen nicht möglich — mit einem Tag Vorlauf bestand der Koch darauf dass wir am Vortag aus 3 Gerichten auswählen.
3. Essen war ganz ordentlich aber langweilig — ein Blech Huhn in den Ofen schieben und Sauce machen — langweilig. Auch Fisch und Risotto keine grosse Kochkunst. Vorspeise Pilzsuppe –gähn und umwickelter Ziegenkäse. Die größte Frechheit — der Nachtisch — so was ähnliches wie Tiramisu oder 2 Mini Industriewindbeutel die leider schon ewig rumlagen — jeder so groß wie ein Tischfußball — dazu etwas Schokosauce aus der Flasche.
4. Ruhe gibt es nicht morgens um 8 legt die Reinigungstruppe los und mein Zimmer war in der Nähe einer Putzkammer — lautes Türenknallen durch das Personal am frühen Morgen ist eine Unverschämtheit.

Beautiful countryside hotel with surprisingly good, though not oppulent, breakfast.
I might have been lucky because I had a very cosy room in the main building which seems to be the oldest part — could cause some problems for people who are taller than Tom Cruise as the doors have a mediveal heights…
All in all a nice experience offsite of the international brands.

I am a regular at the Red Lion, particularly at the weekends for a drink and even a light lunch. It has a good atmosphere with a wide range of drinks on offer, and their bar menu is extensive, including jacket potatoes, sandwiches, salads and even more substantial dinners. I had the pleasure of eating in their restaurant section, where I found the menu really innovative, the food was of amazing quality and the service outstanding. Myself and 5 friends had a fantastic time on their £17.50 three course set menu, and managed to have some great banter with the waiting staff. They have a private room for 8 people for dinner is required, which is also lovely. They also have a hotel which I have heard is very nice, and many of my friends and family will be staying there soon as part of our wedding celebrations
Sometimes the bar food can be hit and miss — you don’t always get everything as described, and it can be cold, but if you speak to staff they recify it immediately. I do find management staff to be a bit heavyhanded, abrupt and rude, but this does not take away from the great service received overall.
