The Gooday shop is a vintage lovers paradise. Over the past few years there has been a mini explosion of vintage shops — as a trend it is so in style, but lets be honest, in many shops you can see that there is a reason why a lot of vintage was thrown out in the first place! This is what sets The Gooday shop apart, it is stylish vintage, incredibly well sourced and very rare. I occasionally see the owner, Rosemary strolling up the road in her beautifully cut antique kimono shawl. She has sourced all the clothes and antiques in her little shop herself, and is very knowledgeable about her items. The period which she specialises in is between 1900 and 1970. Most will come with a story as well. My sister brought a 1950’s Hermes scarf in here for not a bad price, and while she was in there, was treated to a little piano playing by Rosemary’s friend, as well as a tale of how the scarf came to be for sale, by way of Harrods and a spurned lover. The last time I went in, my eye was caught by a 1920’s pram, which looked like its wheels had been fitted by Rolls Royce, but most of the time I am trying on scarfs and hats, and wishing that I was as tiny as all those 1920’s girls about town, so I could fit into the beautiful black flapper dress in the window. Rosemary also supplies her vintage clothes and accessories to the tv, theatre and film industry, and she is mainly only open by appointment, but you can have a browse when she is open on Saturdays from 1.30pm to 5pm. I would suggest that you do, it’s a real treat.
