I can’t comment on this as a daytime establishment, but rather a late night venue… of which it’s one of the latest open in York. I’m just not certain I’m in love with this place to be honest… for many in or around York it will likely be a great retreat in the wee hours, but it’s just a bit too loud for me on most nights. That said, beggars can’t be choosers, and I definitely find myself here in a pinch so it is what it is. A previous review mentioned the clean bathrooms… disregard that as a night venue, but that shouldn’t be too much of a surprise given the size… there’s one toilet to the left for ladies, one to the right for men, and that’s it, so one person ruins it for all and to be honest it’s a free for all most busy late nights. They don’t have an amazing selection of cocktails or beers, but have all of the standards covered and the venue itself has a cool enough vibe until it gets rammed… points for the outdoor heated seating as well. A bit of a downer is the lack of card acceptance… there are cash points across the street, literally a stones throw away, but cash is just a bit of a pain for those of us that have moved on to other things. I would say this place definitely has a rating scale based on what you’re after, 2 to 4 stars I would say… I’m going with 3 because as much as I want to say 2 for my personal post midnight excursions I have absolutely no doubt I’ll be back here again soon.

Blue Fly is open in the day time as a café and in the evening as a bar/kind of a club. It’s not normally busy when I go on an evening and I normally only stay for a bit as it’s not the cheapest place and the music is normally a bit too ‘dancy’ rather than chilled out. In the daytime it’s nice to sit outside as they have seats which are pretty much out on the street which reminds me of being in Paris! Food is ok there, not bad but there are better places. They sell all the usual like sandwiches, chips, jacket potatos. Over all it’s not amazing but nice to sit outside and the building itself is nice too.

This little café just behind a large Starbucks on New Street seems a little out of place, but it is great for taking a break and sitting in the sun on patio chairs outside or inside on either a sofa or a stool. During the day, the Blue Fly is a café serving hot and cold drinks and a range of continental foods all made inside, from sandwiches and salads to cake and scones. They also do giant milkshakes, which are great! I actually prefer the hot drinks + coffees here, because they usually come with some sort of biscuit and they use real melted chocolate in their hot chocolate, unlike some places I could mention! The staff are friendly, and when I was sat outside at a table another group left, and they came to clean up almost straight away. This happened again when another couple left too! The toilets are clean, and I think they also have a specific Internet lounge. At night the Blue Fly turns into a bar, serving professional cocktails in a great atmosphere. There is also a fair sized catering venue, which looks perfect for hosting a birthday party or something!
