Dusk

Went to Dusk for some lunch while I was in York for the day. The outside area was fairly nice and the staff were good however the food was a slight disappointment. With the high prices for the sandwiches I was expecting a high quality but I have to admit they lacked greatly in taste and weren’t very filling.

Following an earlier meal encounter and spell at the Hop, the artistes who played the Hop invited me along to this late night Sunday scene — what a bonus!
I wasn’t here for the beer or the grub but instead the music and vibe. What a result. OK I lied — it was the beer too!
More live music on a very well managed open mike night which has been established for a number of years. As before but with other artistes descending from other local venues, this was an unplanned and unexpected pleasure. More fantastic covers, more original material from Simon Bolley and Georgette to name only two and more atmosphere to be savoured. Again too late to be a foodie but hey who cares — what a great night and I’ll definitely return.

What a delight to have 2−4−1 cocktails again. Glasgow by laws on restrictions on drink promos killed that buzz up here. So when we noticed the sign on the warm looking bar, down an unassuming side street, we couldn’t resist.
First impressions was how empty it was, but that didn’t put us off. We grabbed a seat next to the radiator, and a menu, and made ourselves comfy. They have a decent range of cocktails, but you have to decipher the code names to figure out what you’re actually ordering. Or, like I did, simply ask the barman. Unfortunately, the 2−4−1 only applied when ordering the same drink, which, considering the Mother and I don’t share the same taste in alcoholic libations, was a bit inconvenient. But, when looking at the bright side, it just meant we had to order 2 drinks each! :D
If you’re looking for top standard mixology, with flare and garnishes, this is not your type of place. But they mix up a decent drink, and the playlist could have come from my own library. All in all, it’s worth a bash.

One of my fave bars lovely range of drinks. Can be quite expensive yet 2 4 1 most of the week. Excellent food as well.

This place is great! Their drinks are unique and fun, the staff is awesome, the owner is a great guy. Definitely worth checking out when you are in York!

This place looked inviting from the outside but the interior was a real disappointment. The décor was shabby, the toilets were not very clean and the door closer didn’t operate, so that the door was constantly slamming with the coming and going of customers. There was a (spilt drink?) stain next to our table that should have been cleaned up. The staff were indifferent.
The food was OK but nothing special, so all in all it was a really disappointing visit.

Very nice Cocktails! Students get 2−4−1 Monday till Thursday. Though quite pricy for York stNdards if you are not a student.

Dusk varies between quiet café during the day, and a late-​licensed bar in the evening. Student friendly place with DJ /​live music some weekends.
Friendly staff, decent coffee, free WiFi, and art on walls makes it a nice place to chill during the day.

Dusk is situated in the center of York and can get quite busy. This means it can take a while to get served at the bar. There is plenty of seating over two floors and a little bit out the front. You can get two for one on a variety of cocktails on certain nights

This is an over priced bar, lacking in character and atmosphere. Full of pretentious people and staff, I had to walk out rather than be served on several occasions. Ok to go to if you are an under age pretty girl, not so good if you are the rest of the public.

when dusk opened it was quite good, but then it rapidly got terrible, I’ve not been for a while but it was full scene kids.
I have walked out of here waiting for service before.

A bar which specialises in cocktails with imaginative names like ‘the milkybar kid’ and the ‘lady penelope’, which would be good, but for the fact that they taste foul except when you’re already really rather drunk. It’s always crowded though, so there must be some people out there who like it. There are offers on 2 cocktails for the price of 1 on certain nights, which may be what draws the crowds in. A major problem with its popularity though is that it’s always far too crowded. There are better places to go in York.

I love Dusk, I am from York and whenever I go home I am treated as one of the regulars. The cocktails are pretty good, and their 2 for 1 on Monday to Thursday makes them even better! The food is lovely and ALL the staff are great! It gets really busy in the evening, I think because of their late opening hours, and they have some good things (DJ sets, etc) in the evening. However, during the day it is a great place to go and have a cup of tea (or something stronger!) and read the paper for a bit. I think they also have WiFi so you can go in and do some workalthough I recommend you leave the work at work and take the relax/​party to Dusk :)

Dusk is one of y favourite bars in York and it would always be on our list of places to go on a night out. The interior is quite arty and simple. Has a great great list of cocktails that are on 2 for 1 on quieter nights of the week which is a must! I recommend the Sarah Jessica Parker. Has a slightly quieter upstairs area and a place that you can hire out. The bar is generally very busy and often see bands in there after they’ve played in Fibbers or if they are just locals like Elliot minor. Really friendly place with good drinks with good prices. Quite small and quirky but I’d recommend it.
