For 12 pounds you get 2 servings of a huge piece of fried cod a huge amount of fries(chips) and one lemonade. Great for a lunch or late night snack. Employees are very friendly. Make sure you sprinkle salt on the chips and use the vinegar to make it even a more traditional british treat! Inside seating closes at 930 pm but there are park benches near by you can sit in and warch the hen parties walk by…

Mum and I went to York on a day trip. This was plan B. Plan A was Blackpool but as it was windy and a but rainy when we woke up(and Blackpool forecast worse) we though York would be a better bet. As we were wandering around trying to decide what to have for lunch, we came across Drakes Fish and Chips Shop. As we had planned to have fish and chips in Plan A, we thought we’d stick to it. It is a takeaway out front with restaurant seating upstairs and, where we were, out the back. We were taken to our seat quickly . The menu is good with choice though we both went for cod and chips. My mum is over 60 so she got the ‘senior citizen’s deal’ which was cod and chips with buttered bread, tartar sauce and a pot of Yorkshire tea(what other kind of tea would they serve in a chippy in York!). Think you could have coffee instead of tea. This deal came in at £6.95 which is a bargain and for once mum appreciated being ‘older’. Definitely one to remember if in York with parents/grandparents/other over 60s. My fish and chips, from memory, was £8.70 plus £2.10 for a J20. Our food/drinks arrived very quickly. With very healthy portion sizes. We both came away feeling very satisfied. The staff were very friendly. In the nicest possible way, it’s nothing special, but it does what it does very well at reasonable prices so one to keep in mind.
