Henry J Beans is a great place to go if you want a drink and a bit of food. It is very reasonably priced and a good variety of food and drink available. There are plently of tables to sit at and there is a warm atmosphere. The place can also be privatly hired out for functions.

Visited HJB last night for an early dinner(and watch Liverpool/Chelsea). Good selection of reasonably-priced US-style fare(Nachos, wraps, grills, burgers) all of which appeared fairly amply proportioned(for a dainty Englishman!) and those we ordered were really tasty. Cocktails are extensive and varied, as are the beers(avoid the Guinness.). Service was not very quick, but very friendly and helpful. Worth a look in.

I popped into Henry J Beans for a spot of lunch one weekday with my partner and daughter. The place was totally empty when we arrived! and I didn wonder wether this was a bad sign! but with a hungry tot in tow we decided to give it ago and the waitress was quick to seat us at a table and swiftly provided us with a menu and a highchair! The choice of food was excellent, and in the end I opted for the club sandwhich and a half of lager! I was pleasantly suprised when it arrived, it was a good size and jam packed full of layer upon layer of scrummy meat, on the side some piping hot curly fries with lashings of sauce. My partner opted for a burger and can honestly say it was so juicy and tasty! so much so that we halved our dinners and shared! We decided to have some pancakes for pudding but we waiting for absolutly ages for someone to come to our table to take our plates away and see what we would like that we simply got bored of the idea! which was a shame, as I still want to know what they’re like! All in all it’s a nice spot for lunch!

Went in here after visiting York Dungeon, after seeing it on a couple of previous visits to York and being interested. The food is American-style, and nice enough. Though as the other review mentions, the portions are not American-sized. To be honest, the food didn’t feel in any way to be particularly American. I guess that’s down to the small world we live in now. The price of the food wasn’t very impressive, but I didn’t feel robbed either. The décor is very wood-centric, and there are a few Americana emblems dotted about. The layout is rather awkward — entering, leaving, and finding the toilet all involve walking up or down steps and sort of doubling back on yourself. The atmosphere of the place was pretty non-existant when I was in there, as there were very few customers. The waitress was friendly enough. I intend on visiting the one in Manchester at some point in the near future.

this bar is next to the hilton hotel, it generally has some rather nice looking doormen/bouncers on weekend nights, as you walk in it can appear dark and dingy, because of all the dark wood work. but as you get in there are nice seating areas, lots of standing room. as you get to the bar they have lists of cocktails, in glasses or pitchers. atmosphere wise, its always been good in here, nothing posh, though price of drink can make you gasp! but where doesn’t nowadays??? they have american style food, but not portions. the portions are not bad, but having spent time in NY, and this being an american bar restaurant, the food should be portioned so. it’s so so the food, just gets into the good marks. lots of steps/stairs about in this bar and by the time i needed the toilet, i was to hammered to remember! all i remember is, they do some mean cocktails! its one of them meet up, stop off places, as its a little of the beaten track for pub crawling in york.
