I remember when the food at Slug & Lettuce used to be really nice. The burgers are clearly of the processed frozen kind now, which is a rip off when you can get something far nicer for less at many other pubs. The waitress seemed more interested in listening to her radio to the kitchen than to us while we placed our order too. The place itself is really nice, but the food really let’s it down.

It’s a pub pretending to be a wine bar /restaurant, and not doing it well. Food is barely OK. Had a «goan vegetable curry» which gave the impression of coming out of an Asda microwave pack. Not cheap either. Furnishings and so on are OK. Service was good.

This Slug and Lettuce is modern, clean and sophisticaed restaurant/bar. However I do think the food and drinks are quite average and that the place is a little over rated. Food is nice enough but could get the same thing cheaper elsewhere.

I’ve never enjoyed the Slug and Lettuce as an evening venue — It’s always busy and the drinks are expensive but more recently decided to pop in for lunch with my daughter and mum. We decided to opt for a sharing platter with sausages and mash for my daughter. We were told shortly after ordering that some of the items on our platter weren’t available and would be mind them being swapped for something else, we said that’s fine and my daughters dinner was brought quite quickly, which is handy as it gave it chance to cool down. Unfortunately my daughters meal had cooled down and been eaten before our food arrived — so trying to eat whilst entertaining a restless 2 year old was quite problematic. The food was pretty mediocre and as compensation for some of the items not being available they seems to have replaced it with a huge pile of crispy coated chicken! There was far too much for us both and we ended up taking it home. all in all, I’m not impressed with the Slug and Lettuce and will probably carry on avoiding the place both at lunch times and in the evening.

I went in here on Sunday as we had some of those Tesco vouchers you get with your clubcard to use up otherwise I wouldn’t normally have gone to somewhere like this in York when there are so many other lovely places to go. Overall the experience was pretty poor, we were told when we were seated there was a 45 min delay due to the Sunday roasts they do which I didn’t quite understand as it wasn’t overly busy when we got there but fair enough we didn’t mind waiting. The 45 min delay ended up being quite a bit longer and we ended up being there for around 2 and a half hours waiting for our different courses. We shared a bowl of the nachos for our starter which I have to say were really really good, but my main of pasta with mozzarella balls and sun dried tomatoes was a bit rubbish, the pasta was chewy and the sauce was quite watery. I think next time I’ll opt for the safe option of a big dirty burger to avoid dissapointment but still it didn’t cost us anything so I shouldn’t complain. But on a plus note, the cheesecake I topped it off with was gorgeous and the pints of Peroni helped wash it down!

Love this place, great food and drink in awesome surroundings. We went here after York races on a hen do. The atmosphere is really relaxed and the prices aren’t to bad.

Not the obvious name for a place of stylish cuisine, The Slug and Lettuce is an-off-the-wall, sassy environment for the enjoyment of friends lunching, families in need of a shopping break, and providing an excellent venue for after-work drinks for the cool business men and women of the city. The food is great, the staff are friendly and intelligent, and the canvasses on the wall(though usually of generic pop-art icons) are for sale by local artists.
