Ok… OMG… I was searching the net for this restaurant as a friend is going to Argentina soon. I have very fond memories of going to this restaurant with my parents when we used to live in Palermo, BS. AS., Argentina. Going there was a treat, once a month or so. I always had the filet mignon there. I remember the waiter that was always there helping us, chit chatting here and there, providing us a very welcoming and great service. This review would be for the times in the late 80’s. Food was always perfect. At the time the place seemed kind of upscale compared to cafes that had no table cloth and stuff… for an elementary kid. The waiter recommended my parents to try their sangria cocktail and they loved it and had always ordered it. The steaks were always perfect and so juicy. My parents would sometimes order Italian pasta dishes and they were all yummy. A great steak… one needs to just eat it with minimum salt, pepper, and some fresh lemon juice drops. No need for any fancy, salty sauces or toppings. I know because in Argentina I have had lots of GOOD steaks. And in Pepito, that’s was our experience. I miss it and miss the waiter there, too. If budget and time allows, one day I will take my husband and daughter to visit Argentina and have many meals at Pepito again. I almost cried seeing some photos others have posted. Yeah, just as if a Chinese or Portuguese tourist comes to a local American restaurant, imagine any chain, big restaurants, they will face the same difficulties ordering in English if they can’t speak it. So, don’t be expecting people in other countries to speak YOUR language. If you are traveling overseas, learn and try new things and don’t expect English is a must. Prepare ahead. Take a dictionary or a smart phone/tab with translation apps with you. I speak 3 languages because I had the fortune to have lived in different countries. Open your eyes and don’t criticize other cultures or countries for being different.
