First thing… actually the BEST thing– Truman’s Brekki! Its the relish… Actually no… Its the way its served and topped with that is an offering of Tabasco sauce or uk– HP sauce!(This is my first café I’ve been to offering it) now its not enough to taste both good sultry rocket salad with toast, scrambled egg topped by avacado and thick tasty hash browns… You sit there taken back with sounds of American rock and popular UK hits from the 60’s. Toy Army line the walls like a map. And most the crowd consist of suburban families. coffee is must and the service is exceptional. I recommend SEVERALVISITS during the week for this place.

Amazing cafes can spend thousands on décor and seating, yet this place gets away with old school chairs, old wood carvings from South Pacific cruises and tin file cabinets, yet it has a great feel to it. Coffee was good, honey pot great for my honey fix in the coffee and the muffin I had was good but a little too much butter as very flaky. Overall good service on a Sunday morning and love the décor albeit it was full on daggy.

Awesome service, greeted straight away with a ‘hi how are you’. We got our meal In 10mins or less even though it was super busy. Great way to start a Sunday morning. A lot of bike riders. Excellent coffee. Nice humble scenery.

When in Melbourne I spend a lot of time at VIS in Albert Park. South Melbourne is my favorite part of the city and I have made a promise to myself that I will live here one day. Truman is only a few minutes drive from where we spend most of our time training so it has become our local. It is a cosy, cute, family and dog friendly setting. The décor is fun and playful. The staff are very friendly and are very efficient but not over bearing. My boyfriend always orders the same thing — Truman breaky which is scrambled eggs with avo, tomato relish on ciabata with a hash cake/brown. Very good. I recommend the quinoa fritters. I have been meaning to try the halomi breaky but haven’t got there yet. The specials change daily. It is fresh, fast and delish. Def recommend if in the area!!!

3-stars for this place is a harsh call. Food has been consistently good and the coffee on the whole equally good. It loses 2 stars for its customer orientation, or rather lack thereof. Having customers stand outside waiting when you are all set up and good to go for the sake of 2 – 3 minutes just because you open at 8am is crazy. The number of times we see customers waiting, staff gas-bagging away inside waiting for the magic 8am hour, we’ve lost count. Just acknowledge that you are not yet officially open but to take a seat and at 8am you’ll be right with them — all with a smile.

Family friendly so not my cup of tea — tad noisy, food was nice, not amazing, but certainly a place I’d drop in for a coffee on a weekend arvo. Not bad at all.

True-ly speedy service man. When you arrive at Truman the tables will be full. Fear not, for a table will open up before your very eyes in mere moments. Upon being seated amongst a collection of families and cyclists you can bask in the convenience of table service and what happy, switched on service it is too. The menu is a joy of exciting breaky options with plenty of freshly squeezed juice combos and smoothies. I thoroughly enjoyed my haloumi with pumpkin and a kale pesto. Super original breakfast fare. The only problem with efficient service is I didn’t get through the Life and Style section before the food arrived!

Nice little aspect here. Truman spills out onto the pavement of the wide and leafy Kerford Road. Fortunately the Avenue isn’t very busy with traffic. On the weekend you’ll mostly see cyclists. Fresh ones headed out to the Beach Road run. Slightly less fresh ones on their way back. Grab a coffee and breakfast. Sit and watch the cyclists. I like to think of them as exotic birds with their colourful, bright outfits and expensive cycling hardware.

Bloody delightful. This awesome place hangs out on a casual corner in Albert Park, the same suburb where I was sleeping on my friend’s couch. He took me to Truman just because it was his local breakfast spot, but the coffee was amazing and the breakfast menu totally blew me away! I’m a sucker for corn fritters, and my friend’s haloumi brekky was ridiculously good(when I stole a mouthful). It’s hipster cool brunching here at Truman, where little plastic army men patrol the ceiling and the service is super friendly. Don’t miss the drinks menu, where each drink is named after a sassy famous lady. My Roberta Flack was divine. To be perfectly honest, I wish Truman was MY local.

Although it’s on a busy road, Truman has a corner store feel. Whether you manage to get a spot in the sun out front or a cosy corner inside you’ll be happy you came. Great coffee, delicious home baking and great brekkie or lunch menu means you can stop for a nibble or a feast. An excellent treat after a walk on the beach or in the tan.

Nice ambience: busy, noisy, opp shop fit out. Good, friendly service. Solid unadventurous menu and capable coffee. Food execution is fine. Not a bad local café.

A friend and I often come here in the morning after our workout in the gym or run on The Tan. The coffee and fruit bread toast is excellent(I must try something else, but always end up having the fruit toast).

Theres a good café and theres a good café. Truman is a solid pick if you are looking for a delicious café experience. We were annoying customers, moving tables three times because we couldnt decide where we wanted to sit. However the staff were amazing and friendly and more than happy for us to relocate outside and then inside again, despite it being a busy Sunday lunchtime. The coffee was great, and it took me ages to decide what I wanted from the menu as everything looked delicious. It is one of those cafes where you can start with eggs and the build your own breaky from the ground up which is always a good option. With eggs of different varieties, mushrooms, Leek and Potato Hash, Feta, Avocado and about 5 other sides, you could design a feast. However, being the uncreative soul that I am, I decided to go with a pre-concieved option, and ordered what from memory was called the Truman. Scrambeled eggs, grainy toast, rocket, salsa, and a potato & leek hash arrived and I was not disappointed. It was delicious and because of the addition of the rocket and lemon wedge, tasted light and fresh as well. My friend ordered the eggs with Napoli sauce and Chorzio and claims it was one of the best breakfasts around town. Even with a full café and people queuing, the bubbly staff had no issue with us getting another coffee even though we were taking up half of their biggest table. Whoops, sorry, our bad. All in all, a great breakfast experience. With the outdoor tables and leafy spot, this will be a summertime gem.

When an archeologist goes digging for the last hidden relics of the world, he could spend days, weeks or months at a single spot, dusting dirt, picking at rocks, and find absolutely nothing. But then, on his 94th day, he’ll uncover a luminous gem that gleams through the unsettled earth. And for just a moment, he’ll confront a moral crossroads: to keep it to himself or to share it with the world? While in no way do I compare archeology with café-hunting, I confronted this very issue just a few weeks prior. I had gone off the word of a good friend, Broadsheet. He/She had attributed the new eatery to the café whips behind The Galleon and Las Chicas. I felt neither excitement nor motivation to check it out. Try apprehension instead. Nonetheless I buckled up, pursed my critical lips and made the trip. May this café stand as the unequivocal proof that the third time is indeed a charm. Not only is it delightfully quant, wonderfully serviced by the most amicable of staff, but the food is quite The Bomb(not literally. Why would I recommend a café that could potentially harm you?). I ordered the mushrooms, feta and roquette on toast, which was delicious. I have since strayed as far as the Chipotle baked beans, which by the time I finish I’m ready to start eating once again. It’s a terribly vicious cycle that I haven’t quite overcome. Then again, death by beans wouldn’t be the worst way to go. Truman is everything you’d want in a café. It’s small, it’s tucked away from the hardships of middle class life, the food’s great and the atmosphere is so relaxing I might just tax-deduct my meals as psychological rehabilitation. But that’s a story for a whole other blog. So I have mined the depths of my moral constitution and resolved the conflict with this: I will quite happily share this gem with the world, so long as they choose only to frequent it on days that suit me.
