This place isn’t special. But it’s the same Japanese as anywhere else but in a great location. I return regularly for a takeaway dish that is unique to the store. It’s Salmon Nigiri topped with Red Onion, Mayo & something I can’t identify. It’s amazing if you love Nigiri like myself and will come back for lunch anytime I’m close.

In an area where there’s an abundance of food to be found, Mikado isn’t high on the list of great places to eat. Although they do passable sushi, their main-meal Japanese takeaway is a shocker; we’re talking overly thick sauces, rice that looks like it’s been sitting for a while and disappointing flavours. Their curries are particularly bad for this — steer clear of them. That being said, the food here has been steadily improving since they opened and this is a great place to duck into if you want a few spring rolls or samosas to snack on the afternoon. The décor inside is sparse and functional, more of a takeaway joint with some tables than an actual restaurant. The service is polite and prompt and the people who work there seem to enjoy it; the staff can often be seen hanging out in it at night, well after closing time.
