We went here for dinner last weekend. The food was nice, but the lack of table service and the price lost a star for me. And the«server» tried to take my Corona with a few sips left. DONOTTOUCHMYBEER! :) We didn’t realise you need to get your own cutlery at the bar when you order, so when the food arrived, we asked for some, and were sent to the bar. It wouldn’t have hurt to bring some to us since our food was already on the table, but thats Sydney and the total lack of any service you get… I had the Nachos, and OMG, they were huge, and delicious. My partner went the healthy route and had a chopped chicken salad. Nachos were much better, I found the salad very bland. I wouldn’t mind going back and trying their taco Tuesday or wing Wednesday specials.

Wandering around looking for a light lunch, I struck gold. You order and pay at the bar, then they bring out your food. Service is pretty much non-existent. At the bar I ordered from the luncheon specials, adding a glass of Australian SavBlac from the list of 27 wines by the glass. I sat outside and soaked up the beautiful beach views of Dee Why. The menu called it «Sezhuan Salt and Pepper Squid,» seasoned fried squid, Szechuan peanuts & flaked coconut, with lychee and pineapple sweet & sour sauce. Damn was it good. Half a dozen big thick rounds of squid, lightly breaded and looking tough and chewy. But they weren’t. They were deliciously soft and tender, easy to cut, easy to chew, and tasting so fresh. The peanut and coconut crust was a light taste, more texture than flavor. The lychee and pineapple sweet and sour sauce was only slightly spicy, with a tame sweetness that went perfect with the squid. The small side salad had a blob of guacamole on top. It was a great little meal, that would have been enjoyed on any menu in any restaurant in the world. My hunch is most restaurants don’t have access to such fresh squid.

This place has real hip and trendy décor. It’s got a great atmosphere to it. Giving off more of a bar feel with the«order at the front then find a place to sit» structure, Deck bar tries to stand out in the sea of cafes and restaurants at Dee Why strip. Their service is friendly, efficient and enthusiastic(though after I ordered my food and shoved my change back into my wallet, the waitress dropped a F-bomb in front of me to her colleague whilst they were in conversation!). The food was really good. I would rate it well against the other restaurants too. It’s not as pricey(they have plenty of lunch and dinner deals) and the portions are of a good size! I had the salt and pepper squid with salad($ 16.50, included drink). The squid was tender and perfectly cooked. It had the right amount of batter and it wasn’t overly oily. The salad was a bit ugh, it’s a hit and miss and unfortunately the flavour combinations of watercress with cucumber and lychees didn’t work for me. It looked appealing but didn’t taste that great. My friend had the fish and chips($ 16.50, drink included). They absolutely nailed the presentation. It looked fantastic. The fish had the right amount of batter and was fresh. Chips actually tasted like real potato and were well seasoned. Overall, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and give them 5 stars, just because I know I will return again.

Great service, awesome food with a beautiful view! Chips with aioli dipping sauce and pizzas for lunch. Took a while to come out but it was worth the wait! Fresh ingredients, very satisfying!

Alfresco dining at its finest can be enjoyed here at Deck Bar & Dining with beautiful views of Dee Why Beach, the Pacific Ocean and the Norfolk pines. Positioned over two levels, the ground floor has casual dining where you can order a pizza and have a drink, upstairs is more formal with fantastic seafood options. Try the ‘Deck’ Paella to share between two which has scallops, prawns, squid, barramundi and chorizo in coriander and lime rice with a nice Brokenwood Semillon. There is live music on some afternoon/evenings and the best day I think to be here is on a Sunday afternoon what a puuuurffect way to end a weekend.
