I tried to find a reason not to eat here because the other reviews weren’t that great. My husband wanted to go anyway, so off we went. I am glad we did. It’s hot in this town and a good, cold beer is exactly what you need at dinner. The service was really good. The manager and two servers constantly rotating table checks. I ordered the«bugs.» They are like American prawns but ten times bigger and taste like lobster. My husband ordered the eye filet. Very, very good. After that, we retired to the back for some cane toad racing and entertainment. Laid back and fun — exactly what Australia offers.

Mediocre food in an inelegant setting. The cane toad races might be fun if the presenter wasn’t a poncey pratt.

Service was ok but worst Barra and Chips I have ever had! The only dish worth recommend here is their prawn bucket.

Came here for lunch and the barramundi was great. They have an air-conditioned bar/large room in the back of the restaurant, but we ate in the front, under the fans. The cocktails were good here too.

Wow! Where the Unilocal love for this place? I almost didn’t want to go given the low ratings on here but when my friend said, «Cane Toad racing», I knew I had to be there. We arrived in time for our dinner reservation. Racing begins at 8 so give yourself enough time or your may miss it(we almost did with a 6:45 reservation) The food was actually pretty good. I had the coral trout served over a potato and others at the table had the risotto and the Aussie burger. Not gourmet by any means, but hot, tasty and served quickly if not friendly. During dinner they sell you a ticket to participate in the cane toad races. $ 5 will get you in the game and give you a number. If your number is called, you are assigned a toad and then the fun begins. They also do an auction afterward where you can buy your way into a toad to race. Equally as fun and the prizes are local tourist spots. Touristy? You bet! But fun as well and the beer is cold. Worth it if you’ve got an open night while in Port Douglas!

Ironbar can best be described as mediocre food coupled with disinterested and poor service. We stumbled upon Ironbar whilst walking through the downtown area of port Douglas. The host was very friendly and quick to acknowledge our presence, but everything went downhill from there. We were approached by a young woman with dark hair who threw some menus down and placed two glasses of water before us… she returned 10 minutes later, looking very annoyed and dissatisfied with working on Boxing Day I suppose. Ordered the kangaroo($ 17) starter, which consisted of small kangaroo meat, sweet potatoes, and salad. The kangaroo tasted good to me, but I have nothing to compare it to being our first try. Ordered the Aussie burger($ 17), was not asked my preferred cooking temperature and given a fully well done burger with enough break for 2 – 3 burgers. Girlfriend has the chicken burger, which she said was fine. Never saw the server after food was delivered, had to track her down for the bill of course she was all smiles at that time with the hopes of scoring a tip. Also had the lager and pale ale beers, maybe I am spoiled with all the good beer in the states, but it was just not that good. Do yourself a favor and skip this place of you re looking for more than drinks in port Douglas.

My husband and I dined here during our stay in Port Douglas. Service was good and quick. Seafood platter(entrée) was good — however the calamari was a bit tough. My husband enjoyed the caserole, however probably not the best choice in 30+ heat. Was quite amusing to watch him physically break out in a sweat. I had the Aussie burger, have to say that the meat was a bit over cooked. Overall would say not the best but not the worst I have had, unfortunately just average.

Come here for the cane toad racing — not the food… The food is ok but not great. You buy a ticket for racing anyway so…

We thought that we a meal in the interesting looking Australiana looking restaurant. When we went to order rissoles & mash at 7pm we were told all sold out. How strange such a easy meal sold out so early. So we ordered lamb cutlets, a steak and a coral trout meals. The meals arrived as quite small meals with minimal vegetables and the roast vegetables was over 50% beetroot again not was expected. Overall the meals were disappointing.

Can you give something negative stars? Bad fatty seed oil sugar filled food. Gave me food poisoning on day 2 of a previous holiday here and I’ll never go back. Please don’t take the cheap option only to ruin your holiday. Port Douglas is too beautiful a spot to miss with better food options everywhere.

Bad service and worst nachos I’ve ever had. Mushrooms, feta cheese and olives have no place on nachos — take note!

Service wasn’t the fastest I’ve experienced, but it wasn’t slow. Staff are friendly and prices are reasonable. Food is nothing fancy but I would eat there again.

service slow, food average, ask questions about what you’re ordering, herb bread on the menu, doesn’t say a thing about being covered in cheese.
