Amazing value for lunch specials! Highly recommend. Among the four of us, we tried 3 different things:
1) seared chicken breast with a creamy light mustard sauce — perfectly cooked and seasoned, came with a solid broccoli rice pilaf and the most amazing small fried potato balls/puffs
2) pan fried tilapia with the same broccoli rice, and buttery mashed potatoes — a teeny bit over salted but cooked so well with nice seared crust on the outside. Mashed potatoes — smooth and creamy
3) spaghetti bolognese — weakest link of the 3 — a bit too oily and one of ours (we got 2) didn’t have enough sauce.
Portion size is super generous so great for you big eaters out there. It’s about $ 23−29R ($ 6−7USD!!!) for a main plate and a pudding/flan comes with it. Full of locals (no English menu is always a good sign). Our server was super nice as well!

This italian restaurant is located near Praça General Osório and is tiny. I think there are 10 tables inside (and its a tight fit). They have seafood, meats and pasta! Their Shrimp pasta is great (Alho e Oléo) and comes with a good serving of shrimp.
They have a seafood combo — which they say is for 2, but three people can easily share it. And they also have cavaquinha with risotto (and you get 3 – 4 halves). Their portions sizes are good, i feel you get your money’s worth.
Its a place you need to check out!

Cute little Resturant a few blocks away from our hotel. Delicious authentic Italian food. Service was prompt and attentive. Host/server have is his recommendations even though we had a hard time understanding, but he tried his best to translate — but doesn’t speak English. We still managed to make our order. We got some beer for the hubby and a pitcher of white wine sangria for me and the BF. We started with the bruschetta — Brie & jalapeño jam on toast (this was good & big portion). For entrees I order the Shrimp with vodka penne, the BF had the salmon penne and the hubby had a yummy grilled white fish with mushroom risotto. The pastas were rich and delicious, the fish was grilled to perfection and came with a peanut/almond olive oil to add on top — this you must order based on other Unilocal reviews too. Service was nice. Stop here if you want Italian food. Prices were good too!

My husband, daughter and I had a delicious meal here last night. We had the beef carpaccio and a shrimp salad for starters, spaghetti alla frutti di mare and grilled fish for our main courses. All the food was delicious, as was the wine. Nice atmosphere — small and cozy, gracious wait staff.

Great neighborhood Italian trattoria, with great prices and home cooked food. During the week the have an executive menu, all under R $ 30,00 and the portions are huge! Great for fish, homemade pastas and risotto.

Excellent… In Rio for World Cup, so everything is a bit different during this time.
Quaint little place close to Ipanema. Fish balls? and ravioli were excellent. We also had about 5 different entrees, all very good.
One of the better meals we had in Brazil. Great wine.
