Definitely a unique bar/café with some creepy decorations planted all over the place. Check out especially the lamps hanging in the room at the back as well as the stuffed animals on your way to the bathroom. They serve a pretty good selection of different beers as well as wine and nice ecological bottled juices. They also serve brunch and the place might be less creepy in daylight. Otherwise the food served there looked pretty nice — typical bar food such as burgers and nachos but also salads are available. I can recommend this place for having drinks if you enjoy a dim lighting and don’t mind a pair of shiny eyes staring at you from the darkness.

This place is creepy. Not as in the waiter or service creepy but the décor made me shiver. So much«stuffed» animals around, those who were dressed like humans like polar bear with a tux on the entrance and the rows of doll heads as lamps on the tables. I am pretty sure this café has contributed to various nightmares had by their guests, or maybe it’s just me who is wimpy about this place. Somehow, I got dragged here by Swedes and judging by the amount of Swedish-speaking crowd in the entrance and the«Swedish sandwich» entry on the menu, I begin to suspect that this is a Swedish hangout, you know — when the immigrants don’t want to integrate and stick to themselves and insist on using their own language instead of learning Danish(you do know I am joking, right?) No fancy beer obviously, but my Swede was happy with his classic while his friend with Grøn Tuborg(I have a suspicion that they’re pretty much satisfied with any beer as long as it’s accessible and cheap LOL). Their burger looked tasty(didn’t try) and the fries were good, but I am still giving it two stars because this is just a place like any other, just creepier and I am pretty sure you can find better burgers in town. That said, if you have Swedish friends, maybe they’ll drag you to this place. Don’t say that you didn’t get warned!

I guess I can say this place is a bit creepy and honestly too ‘dark’ for my taste, but I definitely did enjoy going here for a Sunday brunch! Café Bankeråt is designed by artist Filip Jensen, who obviously really is into more weird things like animals in clothes and lamps made out of doll heads. It’s really cool though, and everything perfectly fits together — until the smallest details. When it comes to brunch, you can choose between different options, like an English one with beans, sausages and bacon and a vegetarian one. That was my choice and although I was a little disappointed about half of it being cheese, it was fine. Great(!) hummus, okay yoghurt and omelet and some fruits, too. And yep: lots of cheese. I wouldn’t go back here myself, but I can surely imagine some people love this place.

The interior decoration of this place, alone makes it worth a visit! With large exotic animal trophies hanging from the wall and dark wooden panels the mood is set for a freakshow. If you find yourself in need of restroom, you may enter the basement, where the freak show continues… I’m not sure how to explain, but please do go have a look!!! Let me just mention glowing sinks and«mouth-urinals»… I ordered beer from the tap price: 54 krones(about 7 €) for a pint og Tuborg, quite flat and uninteresting, served in a worn-out old glass, making it even more sad to look at. They also serve food there, which I didn’t try this time around, but looking at the dishes served around me, they did a fine job with food and I will eventually come back to check out the menu.

Location/Accessibility: Central, a 5 – 10 minute walk from Nørreport station. Entrance from the corner. A lot of stairs, so not wheelchair accessible from what I could tell. Service/Setting: Amazing setting, something reminds me of David Lynch in combination with childhood horrors, but this place isn’t scary — on the contrary, it is a cozy cubby hole. Wander around a bit, don’t miss the back room. Actually, I encourage you to get lost on your way to the bathroom. Mixed ages on the clientele, no one felt out of place. Super friendly staff, I think it’s easy to spend more than a few hours here. Selection/Price: Great beer selection, at least for a tourist looking for local brews. Some sort of fire in the kitchen resulted in a restricted menu, my friends ensured me of the great brunches but I did not have the opportunity. The desserts were cheap and looked delicious.

I love this funky café/bar! I went here last night and enjoyed the taxidermy and beer selection. I heard about Café Bankerat from my Copenhagen guide book, which implored me to «check out porn-adorned loos and freaky taxidermy.» My only complaint is that the women’s restroom is devoid of racy decorations(I confirmed with my guy friend that the men’s restroom lives up to the reputation)! All kidding aside… the staff is friendly and the crowd is a nice mix of older and younger people. We went relatively early on a Saturday night(around 9) and the whole front room was full. The back room looks perfect for large groups. Café Bankerat has a wide selection of beers. They can make most cocktails too, but you should try their carefully curated selection of local brews. I tried a pint of their special, which was a steal at only $ 39 kr. The atmosphere is successful during the evening, but it would also be nice to go here during the day to drink coffee and write or read.

Weird, fun, delicious and completely unexpected. Our bartender Maas was also incredibly kind, warm and helpful with choosing from their great selection of ales. Yes, beware of the taxidermy if you’re not a fan of the unique. Otherwise, what a wonderful, cozy place to grab a bite and a brew.

Everyone seems to think this place is creepy. Maybe that’s why I like it so much??? Its dark even in the daytime and the taxidermy isn’t making it PETA friendly but it has a charm all its own. I like to grab a beer and sit on the half inside half outside booths while watching the skaters on the other side of the street. Relatively decent prices for beer in CPH.

A favorite from my Erasmus period in Cph. I mostly came here for coffee, they have tasty café lattes, and I guess even the espressos are good since the italian guys from the gelato shop nearby usually hang out here. I remember their sandwiches and brunches are also very good. This a place you could spend hours at chatting or reading a magazine or paper from their rack, it gives you a relaxing vibe. The décor is super-cool, a hipster’s dream!

To me… this really is a Copenhagen must. It’s an experience in itself, and you will not find another place like it. Between all the taxidermy animals, doll head lamps, and the weird objects collected from all over the world, it’s so strange, it’s cozy. It’s on a great street by the lakes, and it’s also great for people watching. The food is great, but I would have to recommend the goat cheese salad as my favorite. If you have guests in town, bring them here. It’s a place they won’t easily forget!

The decorations are really creepy and interesting. Love it or hate it. I love it. Could have been cheaper for this location, but they have bigger selection of beers than usually and it is great experience when visiting it first time.

Went here on Saturday with a few friends and loved the place. The atmosphere is very funky with odd items on the walls and just an all round cool vibe. We had a good many drinks and a few snack plates, the olives and dips were very good as were the fries with chili mayo dip. The service was great and the guy behind the bar let me try a beer before I decided just to see if I liked it. Definitely going back.

Bankerat is really creepy. It has hanging decapitated doll head light fixtures. It has taxidermy everywhere. Even when you walk down the stairs to the bathrooms, there’s a little taxidermied rabbit with a taxidermied ram dad to surprise you. All the taxidermy is dressed too. It’s also really dark in here. With all that being said, I really like this place. Came with a friend for a few bottles of beer while we talked. It was pretty quiet and not completely unreasonably priced for the area. I’d come back, maybe try the coffee and see it during the day light hours.

a little funny, a little scary, a little cozy… it is definitely an experience to visit bankeråt. not like the coffee and cake are amazing or anything, but at least we did not fall ill after consuming them. without all the knick knacks and stuffed animals, this place is just a regular bar where you can watch the game or meet with the girls for a cup of coffee. but it is pretty hard to ignore all the props… and just wait til you go bathroom; you may want to have a friend walk with you downstairs.(;
