There were a few places in Erlangen that I had spotted on Happy Cow, but we chose this one first to eat at. Our German is not good and they had no English menu, but the first page of the menu was headed ‘vegan’ so at least we knew we could order anything and have a good chance of enjoying it! It seemed to be mostly soup, pasta, and salads and two types of vegan burger. We opted for the burger made of vegetables and sunflower seeds(over the polenta burger) which was delicious and filling and tasted very fresh. Chips were meh. Nice enough, but just the frozen kind. The side of red cabbage added a lovely touch of colour to the presentation, and the avocado crème was very tasty. I find avocado a bit hit and miss but I slathered this on my burger which made it taste even better. I have to also give special mention for the bathroom. They had a Dyson sink which you wash your hands under, then hold your hands under the protruding sides and your hands are air-dried. I always prefer the Dyson mega driers in public toilets over most of the other useless driers which barely blow out any air, but this washer/drier combo for use in a small restroom was great. I also loved the décor and the dark red interior. Though I have been watching a lot of Twin Peaks recently so I’m feeling an affinity with anything that reminds me of it. I highly recommend the Crêpe Stand a few mins walk away in Marktplatz for vegan crepes for dessert!

Rating des Ortes: 5 Erlangen, Germany
We just stumbled over this bakery /restaurant and thought it deserves a review. This place is fantastic! Food is freshly prepared in front of you(kitchen is part of the restaurant). The restaurant has a pretty nice interior and feels bright and welcoming. Food is 4/5, generally speaking, but spectacular for Erlangen… e.g. they make their own pasta and make it pretty clear what they think of MSG, etc. The bread they sell is among the best you can buy in the area(trust me, I am German and live here) and when you order a soup, they get a freshly cut slice for you from the bakery every time. But the well run restaurant and high quality food is not what makes this place so great. It is the staff. They really went all the way to make us feel welcome. And they love kids — they bring you baby chairs, crayons and paper without even being asked. Even give the little ones seconds when they cannot get enough of that pasta. Big smiles all around. Prices are reasonable — our fish dish was just below 10 Euros /average meals are even cheaper. We will come back… probably on a daily basis :)
