India House has a very special place in our hearts. We lived in Germany for 5 years and this was our «go-​to» place for comfort food. We recently moved away and we miss it very much. Our favorite day to go was on Sundays after church. The food is always fresh and filled with love. The owner became like family over time and every time we walked in we were greeted by name.
Living overseas can be hard, so whenever someone treats you like family in a foreign environment, it warms your heart. Plus the food is out of this world amazing! I would definetly recommend this little, underground restaurant if you’re looking for a calm, quiet place to unwind and fulfill your Indian cuisine cravings.
Parking is available underground. Use the garage located by the Café Am Markt. Turn right upon entering the garage and park straight on. A side door will lead you down a hall and into this hidden gem. You may also use the main street enterance to enter. If you prefer to take the train it is a 5 – 7 minute walk from the station. Cash payment is preferred. ATM is located right around the corner.

Ich gebe drei Punkte, da der Preis mit der Leistung für mich nicht übereinstimmt. Das Restaurant ist im Keller. Befremdlich fande ich, wenn man von dem Parkhaus Vaihinger Markt direkt in das Restaurant geht. Läuft man durch eine Kellerlandschaft mit Gefühlt 20 Eisentüren. Und plötzlich steht man mitten im Restaurant. Das Restaurant ist sauber und ordentlich gestaltet. Das Mobiliar erinnerte mich aber eher an einen Chinesen. Das Personal war unheimlich nett, bemüht und kam sehr oft. Das einzige was mich verleitet nur drei Punkte zu geben ist der Preis. Wir waren zu zweit, hatten eine große Flasche Wasser, zwei soft Getränke, einen Lassi, zwei Brote und zwei Hauptgänge und dafür haben wir über 45 € gezahlt. Auch der Hauptgang (14,50 € und 13,50 €) viel eher klein aus. Für diesen Preis erhalte ich in anderen Restaurants einfach mehr. Geschmacklich war das Essen gut hätte aber wärmer sein können. Alles in allem würde ich vielleicht nochmal kommen.

In Stuttgart for a short stint and really wanted some Indian food. This place was recommended and it did not disappoint. Very tasty food, reasonable prices and very friendly staff. Good experience as my first Indian food in Germany.

Having just watched «100 Foot Journey» at the movie theater up the street, we were in the mood for Indian food. Thanks to a quick search on Unilocal and we found this restaurant within 300 meters! We ordered cheese and garlic naan, samosas, Chicken Korma, and Chicken Biryani. The food was really good! We will be coming back often!

Wow — we have heard from several people that India House is the place to go in the area and I can see why. Our food was probably the best Indian food we have had, which is saying a lot since my husband and I eat Indian pretty regularly. I had the butter chicken, as I am not a fan of spicy Indian and it was fantastic. The chicken was so tender and flavorful. We also ordered the garlic naan, which had just the right amount of garlic flavor and the pakora sampler which was again the best I have had. My husband ordered the chicken vindaloo and he loved it.

A good experience in all respects. Polite and attentive service, good food, clean bathrooms. We had lentil soup, garlic naan, lamb goa and chicken and lamb curries.
Everyone left full and happy. My five year old son wants to eat here every day.

Das India House ist ein Kellerlokal. Das Ambiente einfach aber solide. Wir wurden sehr freundlich bedient. Der Wirt kompetent, das Personal aber etwas hilflos. Wir haben 2 Hühnchengerichte und eine Vorspeise gewählt. Zur Vorspeise bekamen wir, ohne darum zu bitten, automatisch einen 2. Teller. — Sehr angenehm ! — Die Hauptspeise waren 2 Gerichte mit Huhn. Etwas befremdlich, Pils gibt es in Halbe-​Gläsern ?!? Wir fühlten uns wohl Und kommen gerne wieder. Vielleicht haben wir ja dann Gelegenheit, da Buffet kennen zu lernen.

We lived in the Stuttgart area for three years. We tried Kashmire a couple times, but we always came back to India House.
If you’re an American, just getting here PLEASE keep in mind that service is A LOT SLOWER in Europe/​Germany then in the US.
The first time we came here we were upset because it took so long for us to even order our drinks, but once you’re used to the relaxed way of dinning in Europe it’s not such a bad thing.
As far as the food is concerned… It always came out fresh and hot. My favorite dish was the Murg Tikka Massala, sehr, sehr, sehr, scharff (normally it’s not a spicy dish so I ordered it very very very spicy)… The basmati rice and garlc naan compliment just about every meal perfectly… or the cheese naan… whichever you prefer.
The wait staff are very friendly and if you take the time to get to know them, they can even be quite amusing and funny, and fun to talk to.
The only negative thing I have to say about this place is the buffet. I never really cared for it, probably because I liked my tikka masalla just the way I explained above, and you can’t get it that way in the buffet…
Anyhow, if you want my recommendation on a great place for Indian in the Stuttgart area, this is the place to go…

Went there for lunch. There is a parking garage attached the location, so parking is easy. We ate from the buffet as we were short on time. The food was all good on the buffet. The menu had several popular indian dishes and based on the tasty buffet I would imagine the menu item would be just as good. Family friendly casual atmosphere. There was an indian family with their child in the booth next to us. I have had better naan bread but, the naan was still decent.

Ich war zwei mal dort und das Essen war beide Male sehr gut. Das Ambiente war nicht so toll, aber das Essen entschädigte. Die Kellner waren sehr freundlich und angenehm. Einzig die Wartezeit war ein wenig lang, dafür bekam man aber frisch zubereitete Speisen. Ich kann das Restaurant weiterempfehlen.

Nach einem Workshop hier kurz zum Abendessen. Einrichtung könnte etwas angenehmer sein, aber für die Zeit war es ok.
Ich hatte mir das vegetarische Eggplant Bharta mit Naan bestellt und fand es gut. Preislich auf jeden Fall in Ordnung

Das Interieur ist etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber ehrlich gesagt entsprechen sehr selten indische Restaurants einem schönen Esszimmer wie in Schöner Wohnen.
Auf der Karte hat mir gar kein Gericht zugesagt, als Vegetarier, der auchnoch manche typisch indische Zutaten wie Kokos nicht ausstehen kann, kann das mal vorkommen, ist mir hier aber das erste Mal passiert. Also habe ich ein Verlegenheits-​Samosa bestellt war ok, hat mir nicht besonders geschmeckt.
Der Service war gut, die Kellner sehr nett er hat mehrmals geschaut, ob der Rotwein auch ok ist, bevor er ihn serviert hat.

Zwar dauert es manchmal etwas, bis man sein Essen bekommt, aber das macht einem nichts mehr aus, weil es einfach immer sehr lecker ist und ganz frisch zubereitet. Der Service ist freundlich, manchmal etwas langsam und ungeschickt, aber das gute Essen machte für mich bis jetzt immer gänzlich wieder wett. Ich gehe da immer wieder gerne hin!

Unspektakuläres Restaurant in einem Keller, ziemlich dunkel und nicht gerade gemütlich. Hätte ich nicht einen Tipp bekommen, wäre ich glatt vorbeigelaufen. Dafür kann die Küche auf ganzer Linie überzeugen. Ich war bereits dreimal da und wurde weder enttäuscht noch hatte ich «Nachwehen». Wer auf indische Küche steht, ist hier bestens aufgehoben. Das Essen steht hier an erster Stelle nicht das Ambiente. Während meiner Besuche wurde das Lokal überwiegend von Amerikanern aufgesucht. Ein bisschen Zeit sollte man mitbringen, denn es wird alles frisch gekocht. Es gibt auch Mittagstisch, nur mit den Öffnungszeiten hält es das Lokal nicht so genau: Ich wollte kurz nach 14 Uhr noch essen, da hieß es, es gäbe nichts mehr, weil das Lokal um 14 Uhr 30 schließe. Schade. Ich werde auf jeden Fall wiederkommen.

Das Essen ist ganz gut, «großes» Buffet (nur sonntags) für EUR 12,50 ist ausbaufähig. Bain-​Maries wurden erst nach Nachfrage wieder aufgefüllt. Bedienung wirkte lustlos und unmotiviert! Man musste sich mit winken und rufen bemerkbar machen, um etwas nachzubestellen. Sanitäre Anlagen hätten dringend mal wieder eine Reinigung /​Lüftung nötig.
Vielleicht hatten wir nur einen schlechten Tag erwischt, dennoch werden wir auf Weiterempfehlung und einen weiteren Besuch dankende verzichten.

Great India food with a non-​cheesy atmosphere is a little more difficult.
Silly delicious Indian food with a non-​cheesy atmosphere and a phenomenal staff is near impossible.
Finding all of that with underground parking and a garage-​access door to the restaurant so you can go day, night, rain, show, or shine?

We regularly eat here. Lunch, dinner, large events with friends, date nights, huge take-​out orders for parties at home, or just a quick lunch… it’s always been 100% reliable. The staff speaks English well, is very attentive, and is extremely proficient at making recommendations on dishes, portions, drinks, amount of spice (they adjust based on requests), and everything else. The food is always hot and very flavorful! The naan bread is to die for. Seriously. Get it and get lots of it. They also have Indian wine and beer that are good and round-​out the full Indian fare. Yes, even in the land of great beer, having an Indian beer is acceptable!
Final thoughts on this place… EASY ACCESS. You can use the underground parking garage under the Marketplace in Vahingen and access the restaurant back door direct from the garage. This makes is a PERFECT place for dinner on a snowy or rainy evening.

Das essen war einwandfrei; frisch und lecker; hatten 5 verschiedene Currys welche allesamt gut gekocht waren. Die Vorspeisenplatte vorab scharf und gut.
Das Servicepersonal war stets aufmerksam und freundlich. Die sanitären Anlagen waren ebenso «authentisch».
Somit mein Fazit: empfehlenswert und einen Besuch wert

Hey, ich fand’s echt gut! Als Vorspeise hatten wir Salat (knackig) und Pekoras (leicht und knusprig, sehr lecker) mit drei verschiedenen Dipps. Dann die gemischte Tandori-​Platte, die war extrem lecker. Das Fleisch zart und saftig, aussen knusprig, hmmm… Leider war das Murgh Curry unerwarteter Weise in Sojasosse (was ich noch nie in der indischen Küche erlebt habe) statt Curry Sosse, eher chinesisch süss-​sauer anstatt scharf. Schade wenn man, wie ich, kein chinesisches Essen mag.
Die Atmosphäre empfanden wir als sehr angenehm. Alles sehr sauber, gedämpfte indische Musik, nette Bedienung, wir haben uns wohl gefühlt.
Das Sonntagsbüffet würde ich allerdings nicht empfehlen, es ist in Blechtrögen angerichtet wie in der Mensa!
Nachdem wir nochmal da waren, finde ich es nicht mehr gut — das schlechteste Chicken Vindaloo meines Lebens!!!

I have been a regular visitor to India house over the last 3 years and I can say with confidence that this should count as one of the best in business here in Stuttgart.
This restaurant must rank high in terms of ambience, food quality, options for vegetarians and non vegetarians, and overall experience.
On the low side, one might face a poor service quality but we this being a new restaurant, we can safely hope that things will pick up.

I felt almost disgusted when I read a few unjustifiedly bad smug critics against India House written by Swabians who probably have no idea what good English Indian food is supposed to be.
As an enthusiastic Indian food fan from East Asia, who used to live in London and have tried out almost all Indian restaurant available in Stuttgart, I must say that this restaurant is definitely the best one in this city. Hightly recommend also by many of my friends.
If you are not sure what to order, try Butter Chicken. I don’t know where else you can get such a perfect one. Lamb dishes as well as vegetalian dishes including Indian cheese curries are absolutely delicious, too.
Its spacious and clean interior makes you feel at home.
The service might not be that quick, but that’s what you expect in a good Indian restaurant where freshly made food is offered. Besides, I don’t find the prices higher than any other well-​known Indian restaurants in Germany.
As a comparison, I’m aware that many people think Ganesha in Stuttgart-​Ost is a very good Indian restaurant, for example. However, I have a very low opinion about that restaurant — food is too salty (perhaps adjusted to German insensitive tongues), tables are crammed and service is not very effective, either. If India House, only 1 min. walk from the U-​Bahn station in Stuttgart-​Vaihingen, is not very well-​accessible, Ganesha is certainly not better.

Das lokal befindet sich im Keller, die Räumlichkeiten sind groß, dadurch ist es nicht eng. Dennoch ist es gemütlich. Die Einrichtung empfand ich als sehr angenehm.
Die Karte ist ausführlich und bietet auch ausgefallene Gerichte.
Ebenso wurde ein Buffet für 12,90 EUR angeboten, das Vorspeisen (Salat, frittiertes Gemüse, etc.), 4 Hauptspeisen (Lamm, Linsen, Huhn, Gemüse) sowie einen Nachtisch bietet.
Sowohl die Tandoori-​Gerichte als auch das Käse-​Gericht sowie die Buffet-​Auswahl waren sehr schmackhaft und hervorragend gewürzt.
Für mich hätte es etwas schärfer sein dürfen, aber ich bin da vielleicht der falsche Maßstab. ;-)
Die anderen waren jedenfalls mit der Schärfe zufrieden.
Die Portionen waren durchweg sehr groß.
Die Bedienung war aufmerksam und freundlich, und die Wartezeiten durchweg angenehm.
Die Tandoori-​Gerichte bewegen sich im Bereich von 12 Euro, es war aber auch eine wirklich große Fleischmenge mit hervorragender Qualität.
Andere Gerichte sind tlw. deutlich billiger.

This is without a doubt the best Indian Restaurant in Stuttgart. I know that is not difficult, but I would say that the food is close to the standard you get in English Indians !
Fresh ingredients make all the difference.
I would reccomend the Chicken Jalfrezi, but of course make sure you ask for it Scharf, unless you are german of course as this could well kill you!
Other places are cheaper and more accessible, but this one is worth the effort.

Die Besprechung in den Stuttgarter Nachrichten über das India House hat mich etwas skeptisch gemacht, nachdem Freundinnen das India House schon getestet hatten und es für gut empfunden haben. Gestern also der Praxistext. Und mein Urteil ist gemischt. Tatsächlich waren Inder unter den Gästen, was ja in derTat für die Qualität spricht. Als Vorspeise Samosa, waren etwas hart. Das Tandoori Chicken, Daal und ein klass. Curry Gericht geschmacklich gut. Meinen Vater erfreute der indische Rotwein (schmeckt wie ein spanischer), der Yogi Tee war etwas viel, etwas zu süß und fett. Der Service war bemüht. Aber nicht sehr schnell. Insgesamt aber eine interessante Ergänzung in Stuttgart Vaihingen, auch wenn ich persönlich finde, das es nicht ans Ganesha rankommt.
