Bistrot Smiley

We were looking for a quick bite after visiting Montmartre and found this cute bistro, Bistrot Smiley!
I had a hankering for French onion soup, which they did an amazing job with. I would revisit just for that!
Bathroom was a little sketchy but the staff was very friendly and spoke great English, which was quite helpful!

Petite brasserie du quartier tjrs aussi sympathique plats typique de brasserie burgers viande salade bref rien de nouveau mais de bonne qualité. Pour l’apéro les places en terrasse sont rare … Prix dans la moyenne du coin, carte dès cocktails tendance et tjrs de bonne qualité

Staff speaks English. I recommend the salmon club sandwich. It comes with a salad and basket of fresh fries. It is big enough to share. The Parisienne cocktail was delicious. B52 was on fire.

Really ok salad and ok steak. Nothing spectacular. It seems like place that’s visited by many locals, so perhaps we didn’t order the right things?

We were looking for dinner after a day shopping. After walking around Rue Des Martyrs we decided on this Bistrot. Food was good. Pork with Jack Daniel sauce € 17, confit canard € 17, risotto € 16 and 6 snails € 9. Food was hot and cooked well. Unfortunately they forgot our pasta penne order. Service was quick. Otherwise.

Food was excellent, people were very friendly. Had a barbecue chicken burger with fries it was excellent. Only downfall was the very high prices.

Came here for a big early lunch and it completely hit the spot.
I’ve giving 5 stars mostly because the food was so delicious and the waiter was actually the nicest French watier I’ve ever encountered. What a great guy, always cheery and friendly and complimentary.
I got the big smiley burger and it seriously made me grin, so absolutely delicious and succulent and lots of other words to say… just go here already!

Great food, great location in a real Paris neighborhood and a friendly, helpful and accommodating staff. Highly recommended.

Very good as far as quality. A very good hamburger so tall it required a strategy to eat. Bacon and cheese were delicious, served with fritas (fries). Only bad thing is that it’s pretty much a $ 30 burger converted from euros. …I can’t afford this so I won’t be back but that one time was delicious, and staff was very nice and welcoming and spoke English to help us tourists folk.

My group and I stumbled across this place while exploring rue des Martyrs. We were looking for a decently priced (because let’s face it, eating in Paris is a black hole for your wallet no matter what you do) place to eat that wasn’t a tourist trap.
Our criteria for the
1.) Meal has to be under 17 euros
2.) Avoid menus w/​‘Americanized’ dishes and writings
We couldn’t quite satisfy the second criteria, but we were starving at this point and honestly we saw so many burgers on the menu across Paris that we decided it was becoming a ‘thing’ for the locals as well (we could be wrong, of course, but I’d like to think we were okay to assume that).
I unfortunately don’t have pictures of the interiors but strangely enough it reminded me of an old American burger joint, but at the same time slightly eccentric and hipster (due to the big model stop light in the middle of the place and other decorations). You get the sense that this place was a popular spot for the younger crowds to chain smoke (seriously every person smokes in Paris), drink, and socialize at the end of the day.
Their HAPPY HOUR that day consisted of a free drink with an entrée so we happily took advantage. I ordered the gizzard and foie salad while my friends ordered lamb wrapped in pastry served w/​potato gratin.
Chicken gizzard & Foie Gras salad: Really really good. I think Paris has made me come to like gizzards, something that even I haven’t had despite my Taiwanese heritage and curiosity when it comes to all things food. The foie was really good too, creamy rich and full of flavor. The fresh tomatoes and crunchy salad went well with the meatiness of the gizzard and richness of the foie. I added extra olive oil just for kicks
If it wasn’t for the foie on the salad I’d honestly would have ordered the lamb wrapped pastry dish. By my friends’ account (2 of us ordered it) it was very good and from the small taste I got I think I would’ve enjoyed it.
Service. Quick words about service in Paris: It is SLOW compared to the U.S. Unless you’re at a higher-​end place you won’t get someone to wait on you. The reason being
1.) the dining culture is very different and much slower than ours
2.) There is usually only 1 – 2 waiters per restaurant so you have to let them get to every table.
That being said, after our food came out we didn’t see the waiter again till we asked for the check.
If you’re looking for a chill place to have dinner at a decent price I’d recommend this place. We were gringos, mzungu, mei guo ren, Americans, whatever you want to call us, but we were treated pretty well with little to no snobbery and the food was great.

One evening alone in Paris and this place drew me in best advertisement of all the people enjoying themselves. Very local fresh salad right amount of dressing and a lovely glass of Chablis, attentive comfortable wait staff, no pressure. Lovely evening.

C’est correct, de bons hamburgers, le bon goût de servir de la saint landelin comme bière.
Mais le personnel né sait définitivement pas compter et fait même parfois preuve de mauvaise foi quand on leur signale qu’ils né rendent pas assez de monnaie.
C’est dommage de faire de la gratte sur le rendu monnaie, car sinon j’aurais bien mis 4 étoiles.

Delicious food, delicious drinks, great atmosphere and some nice staff! Love this place… try the mojitos and the french onion soup. They have wonderful prices on cocktails, too, so you can enjoy your night without feeling poor.

Vraiment pas mal. Je passé tous les jours devant sans avoir pris le temps de m’y arrêter, la façade né paye pas de mine on s’attend à un petit bar plutôt simple sans prétention mais en réalité c’est une petite pépite. Je m’explique.
Si vous y allez pour boire un verre vous serez ravi, l’atmosphère est branchouille mais reste bon enfant, la population est jeune (20 – 27 ans), la déco est cool, le personnel serviable et les boissons sont bonnes pour un prix correct (5 – 10 euros).
Pour manger, le restaurant propose des places à l’intérieur, sur des banquettes (assez confortables pour les noter). L’atmosphère est du coup un peu plus bruyante avec la musique mais bon. Pour ce qui est des plats on reste dans des choses assez simple au demeurant: pâtes, burger, nachos, plats de viandes… Mais d’une qualité surprenante !
A noter que c’est également un des petit-​dejs /​brunchs les moins chers du coin !

The most amazing burger joint EVER and it is in.France. In other words, not near my home at all Argggh. I swear the cheeseburgers here were like In-​N-​Out, with the mysterious «American dressing» and everything. (I actually do think it’s the same type of sauce as In-​N-​Out with the Thousand Island dressing although not as heavy). Upon ordering, the waiter never asked how I wanted my meat cooked but it came out a perfect medium rare anyways. On the even brighter side (as if I weren’t blown away by my burger already) they even have a «smiley» burger with not one, but TWO beef patties AND a fried egg on top. Imagine a creamy egg yolk running down that monster burger! Yes, it’s as good as it sounds. With your burger, you get a side of fries and salad. Although I wasn’t purposely seeking for the best FRENCH fries in France, I got it here anyways. Giant fries, almost wedge-​like, that came out at a perfect hot temperature and crispy on bite. I don’t usually eat all of my «non-​healthy» options, i.e. the burger and fries, before my salad. but I couldn’t help it. or rather my mouth and hands just kept moving on its own and before I knew it, I’ve finished everything but the salad. Now just when you thought it couldn’t get possibly any better by the time I got to said salad, WELL… you’re right — the salad was just okay, hah. No mind-​blowing episodes with this one but nonetheless, a clean salad to finish off a hearty meal.
Oh and I didn’t even mention that I had the escargot as an appetizer because I keep dreaming about the burger. This was my first time eating snails, French style! (Have had it prepared Asian style before, in case you were wondering!) It was as my friends described it — if you like garlic then you like escargot. This also had pesto and olive oil stuffed in it. It was great with some of their sliced baguette but nothing crazy :)
The service was pretty spot on (the nice waiter even showed me how to use the clamper to pick up my escargot. although it was pretty obvious: P). Only one complaint was the server, during my second time here, wrote down and took out the wrong order but they replaced the dish pretty quickly. As a plus, Bistro Smiley was also opened on New Year’s Eve with a 9 euro surcharge for my group of four. Totally reasonable considering every other good looking restaurant on Unilocal was closed. In fact, I found this place totally by coincidence as I was trying to locate another burger joint and it was closed! This was the next closest thing on the vicinity and boy was it worth it. They also serve tons of beer, cocktail, wine, etc. if you just wanted to come and enjoy the bar. And last but not least, free wi-​fi! Just ask for password. Gosh, I love Bistro Smiley!

Food was ok. Service was unfirnedly but prompt at first then non-​existent.
