People say there isn’t much in this area of town — wrong wrong wrong. There’s tons of stuff for the tourist who wants to get away from tourist. Café Latin was buzzy, the staff was great and patiently worked with my horrible French. The place was always busy, but not noisy or too crowded. If you are in the area stop in.

I was really upset that this quaint little restaurant in the Latin Quarter didn’t quite stand up to the expectation of a Parisian French restaurant. While I was with a pretty large group, my expectation was merely that the food would be edible and with some flavor. I was sorely disappointed. No one at my table eat their dinner and we ended up having crepes outside because were still hungry. The presentation of the food was terrible. Clearly the kitchen believed that since we were travelers we wouldn’t still eat with our eyes first. The pictures say it all. I had the Duck au Poive. It was inedible. The duck was tough and dry and without flavor. It came out barely warm. The potatoes were a joke but the only edible thing on the plate. The wine and atmosphere were the only things that gave this place 2 stars.

Café Latin– delicious fine food. We had Salmon and also the ribeye steak. Both superb. + service. Do not understand negative posts.

Café Latin is just one of those places that you go to and instantly fall in love with. Everything about it is fantastic. From the staff to the menu to the prices. Everything. If you’re in the mood for some excellent wine and a great meal in a warm and welcoming bistro, then this is the place. Plus they speak English. Ask what wine specials they have going on or ask for Nicholas. His knowledge on wine pairing is always spot on with my meal or taste/mood.

This place is great for a drink, coffee, lunch, and they have a good onion soup. The food is a good value for the price(the goat cheese salad is very good, and so is the café gourmand). The best part is the friendly staff — it’s always nice to come here and be welcomed!

We stopped here for a glass of wine on a freezing, rainy March afternoon and were warmly greeted by a waiter that spoke English. I enjoyed a crisp glass of Chablis while my husband had a foamy glass of Leffe beer served in a goblet. We also split a cheese plate which came with a nice selection of Cantal, Beaufort, Bleu d’Auvergne and Brie de Meaux, and a baguette. Great find!

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – This café is a good find in this neighborhood full of tourist traps. The décor is a bit art déco/vintage, posters included. It is perfect for a drink, but by all means do not order the burger. Here is why: — No tooth pick to hold the damn thing together — Meat was cooked as asked but burned around the edges and had a greasy aftertaste, and tasted like some other«thing» or meat had been cooked on the same griddle. I prefer not to know what that was. — Bun: just ok, tasted like a supermarket brand bun, and was also burned around the edge You get the picture. The only good thing about it was that it came on a plate, open, like they do in US restaurants, and you put it together yourself with what you like(they only had ketchup here). So 4 stars for the café part and service, 0 stars for the burger. Don’t think am brave enough to try other dishes.

I stand by my previous review: Café Latin is still good for the price and the area. Nice atmosphere, nice service, solid food a few steps above the standard croque/steak frites(but won’t win a Michelin star this year). I went at night on my second visit 18 months later. It wasn’t technically my destination restaurant that evening, but we happened to be in the area so I ushered my sister and her husband there after showing her some of the town. They loved it. I enjoyed it. Enough said. I’d go back, but most likely for lunch(better value), and again, not as my *desination* unless I’m in the area.

A block and ½ from the apartment we’re now renting on Rue St. Andre des Artes. Cute atmosphere and friendly wait staff. Tried the onion soup gratinee and was not disappointed with the quality and brulee of the cheese. The broth alone, however, was a little thin and lacked the depth of flavor I typically like. As long as you had a smidgen of the cheese/bread in every bite, it was very good. I followed this up with the Italian salad — which I thought came with some cured meat(but apparently didn’t). It did come with fresh lettuce and fresh tomato wedges, marinated yellow and red peppers, and creamy mozzarella cheese. I ordered a plate a salami, tore it up, and put on the salad — that made it! The dressing seemed to be the marinade in which the peppers sat … different, but good. My husband ordered the croque madame(essentially a toasted ham sandwich with gratineed cheese and a fried over-easy egg on top), which came with a side salad. He loved it. Good creaminess, crunchiness and saltiness. So this was lunch … we ended up each drinking a 50cl pitcher of decent yet inexpensive wine … thankfully, we were able to toddle back to our apartment and sleep it off. A decent, but not fabulous, café.

Stopped by as a recommendation from a friend who used to be a regular… sadly the staff I spoke to didn’t know him(although he knew the owner when I mentioned the name… but didn’t seem to have any desire to pass along my friends hello, nor care that he recommended the place). Super cute in the very touristy St. Michel/Latin Quarter area, actually passed by completely by chance as we’d given up on trying to find the place. Adorable ivy covered walls, and we actually bypassed it the first time as we didn’t think they had happy hour(so sought out other places that did). Days later, they do have happy hour! Can’t say that the drinks were spectacular(got a seabreeze), but average, and the venue definitely cute — with the open layout to where you’re sitting right on the street. only wish it had been warmer so that that was a good thing…

to be fair i would say 2.5 service was great and very friendly i ordered the chevre salad which was basically toasted goat cheese break on top of some lettuce. the lettuce was not very good, did not like the salad. the steak was average.

If you must be near St. Michel, Café Latin is your best option. The bartenders are very friendly, if not a little flirtatious, and make a sincere effort to remember customers’ names. To be honest I usually go every 6 months to test their memory and to talk to the cuban guy Victor whose mesmerizing afro seems bigger every time I see him. It’s just a laid back place where you can drink without getting ripped off, which is saying a lot for St. Michel.

Nice place with good food in the Latin Quarter. I had the Italian Salad, which, thankfully, wasn’t drowning in dressing like salads at some other places. The ingredients were all pretty good quality and fresh(tomatoes, lettuce, fresh mozzarella, dressing). The bread was also really good here. They have some Poilane sandwiches, so maybe they were serving Poilane bread at the tables?
