This is a very small, cute restaurant. Friendly, inviting, meals are fairly priced, and most importantly delicious. The duck breast in honey sauce is absolutely to die for.

Nous avons adoré l’accueil et le sourire autant que les plats délicieux, les cuissons parfaites(poisson et viande très tendres, légumes croquants). A découvrir !

Lamb is perfect, the beef stew is really good, the price is reasonable, and the restaurant is kid friendly, very rare in Paris, so 5 stars !!! Strongly recommend.

There are so many restaurants in this area, I looked to Unilocal to help me decide. I thought the food was acceptable but not amazing. It was a cold day so beef bourguinon sounded perfect. It was a sizeable portion with yummy potatoes but the beef was a little tough and the vegetables were mostly onions. But it was satisfying and the waiter there was delightful. My dining partner just had soup and reported being satisfied.

We’ve been to many traditional French bistros and La Cave Gourmande is one of the best in all of Paris. Really nice atmosphere, great service and the best beef bourguignon! Our waiter suggested a wonderful red wine, very reasonably priced. He also spoke English which helped us quite a bit and was willing to share his favorite dishes with us. I would recommend this Bistro for lunch or dinner when you’re in Montmartre.

This was the first restaurant my husband and I dined at the first day we arrived in Paris and it will always be one of the most memorable experiences of our trip. After exploring the beautiful Sacre Couer and enjoying views at the top of the hill, we descended into the village of Montmartre. I had done a little bit of research, and originally wanted to try another restaurant down the street, but it was not open yet… and the lady running it was pretty rude. We ended up wandering into La Cave Gourmand as if by fate; as if God wanted our first meal in Paris to be this amazing. I studied French for several years in school, so I was definitely at the conversational level but pretty rusty. Thankfully our waiter knew as much English as I did French, and we were able to engage in a really wonderful and genuine conversation about Paris and art and culture. I will always remember you man!(Just forgot his name, sorry.) Now… my husband nor I had eaten anything since dinner the previous night which was about 14 hours prior that we had spent awake and just drinking coffee… so we were pretty damn hungry and ordered 3 entrees to start: the escargot, the bone marrow, and some sort of pâté. THEBONEMARROWWASTHEMOSTEXQUISITETHING I HADEVERPUTINMYMOUTH, JUSTONEBITEAND I WASHOOKEDFORLIFE. I’m not even playing… Bone marrow is probably the best thing I ate while we were there. The snails were pretty good as well, out of compassion our waiter had to show us how to use the clamp thing to scoop the meat out of the shell. The pâté was probably my least favorite of the three, but my husband definitely enjoyed it the most so that worked out. We were still hungry and each went for a plat principal — I had the bouef bourguignon and my husband had a duck confit. Both were excellent, classic French homey cooking. The wine our server suggested to pair with everything was fastastic as well, I felt like I had been missing Cotes du Rhone my whole life because I always usually went for Italian or California or Argentinian wines. At the end of our meal our waitor surprised us with a really nice ice cream brownie type dessert — except French do it so much better. We were stuffed but so, so happy and hope to return some day.

We selected this restaurant for our first dinner in Paris, based on the proximity to our hotel, the good reviews and I wanted beef bournigon. It was not crowded on a Thursday evening at 7:15 pm, fortunately. The waiter was quite friendly. Service was quick. My boyfriend had the lamb. As mentioned in the other reviews, it was a bit dry. The mashed potatoes were great. The roasted potatoes with the lamb were perfect. Had an awesome dessert… vanilla ice cream with chocolate, petit fours, whipped cream and vanilla ice cream.

Not too bad. Beef bourguinion is good, but the duck breast is over cooked. Our waitress is really friendly and helpful.

we were staying in the montmartre area and were super tired and hungry from traveling all day. i used the Unilocal app on my phone and la cave gourmande popped right up as a nearby restaurant. the reviews were all great so we decided to give it a try and we were not disappointed. literally the best paris bistro fare we had on our entire trip to paris! the beef bourguignon is a must have and duck was exquisite! Definitely worth a visit if you are in Paris! Reservations recommended(but they were kind enough to squeeze us in without reservations). for more details and pictures of our meal please visit my blog at

That beef bourguignon was super soft, flavorful and tasty! MmmMMMm. We were very impressed with the dish, and enjoyed eating the mashed potatoes as well! And of course, as with all restaurants in Paris, we were given tons of bread to start off with! I think I could get used to that… If you eat here, definitely get that dish. Oh, and the free wifi was fast(hey, when you’re traveling internationally, free wifi is a pretty big deal).

I really have difficulties reviewing this restaurant. On one hand I loved it, on one hand I hated it. It’s a small restaurant located in montmartre and it’s a place where you get typical French homemade food. I’ve ordered the beef bourguignon and it was really tasty and full of flavour. Served with mashed potatoes and wine. My boyfriend had lamb which was tasty but a bit dry. That’s the positive… Here comes the not to fantastic part of the review: Service! Our waiter was SO busy and he seamed really confused. He was kind but kept running around himself. He initially came with the wrong dishes for my boyfriend and was quick to apologise and take it away again. But… I’ve already took something from my plate and I’ve ate some of the mashed potatoes — and then they gave the plate to another customer! Plates that’s been at a customers table shouldn’t be served to another customer. In spite of having tasty authentic French food I can only give an under average review.

SEPT2013. Walking by this little«gastro-pub» we were stopped by the head waiter and in talking to us, he mentioned that the food prepared at «La Cave Gourmande», was fresh from local markets, picked daily, and that the menu was always different depending on what was purchased from the markets that day. This appealed to us greatly. We started with a plate of «foie gras» YUM!, I had the«Carré d’agneaux«or «Lamb Square» Which is in essence three lamb chops still in one piece, encrusted with a bread-crumb /herb /mustard breading, with fresh greens, and little potatoes, fried in duck fat; once again I lack the eloquence to describe the taste of this dish. Needless to say I still dream of it today. My wife had the«Boeuf Bourguignonne». This too was spectacular. Dipping the baguette in the sauce of the Bourguignonne was«orgasmic». The beef was tender, and the mashed potatoes, with fine herbs and garlic were light yet tasteful. Paired with a local, delicate and tart Bordeaux to cleans the pallet between bites. We were in gastronomic heaven. This is what«Paris» should taste like. Prices were very reasonable, 62 euro for all this. 5 Stars for Food, 5 Stars for Service, 5 Stars for Ambiance, and 5+ stars

This was our favorite meal in Paris. Not because it was super fancy or elegant, but because it was everything we like about simple French cooking and dining — great ingredients, spot-on preparation, relaxed atmosphere, and polite service. It’s about a 5 minute walk from Sacré-Coeur. We ordered the boeuf bourguignon, the duck breast, and beef tartare. All three were delicious. The bourguignon came out in a little cast-iron pot with a hearty size of creamy mashed potatoes. The beef was tender and seasoned perfectly. The duck breast(I had it medium-rare) was the best! And the beef tartare almost tasted like sashimi(which is to say, fresh and clean). Service was friendly and warm. We miss this place already.

Phenomenal food. Started with bone marrow and the fried goat cheese salad. The salad itself was iceberg(whomp whomp) with these perfect cherry tomatoes. The fried goat cheese was very good. Bones were large shin bones cooked to perfection slathered on crispy baguettes. Yes. Dinner was a cheese plate and beef bourgonion. The blue cheese was too stinky for me but everything else was on point. The beef was a tad salty but still good with these garlic butter mashed potatoes. Those alone were magical. These dishes with 4 glasses of wine were 92 bucks. Not bad but a bit more than I planned on spending. Not their fault I didn’t look at price when we sat down. Service was eh, but it was the fête de la musique and there were two bands on the street. Can’t hold it against them that they drew a crowd they weren’t ready for! I would go back again and again!

Beef bourguignon, Duck and Rib steak were all very well prepared and delicious. Service was a little slow but our apologetic waiter, who was working the job of three people, gave us a free large bottled water for the delayed food. Will love to come again for the excellent food and service.

Our first meal in Paris. We were a little tired from the flight, but glad that we were able to make lunch at La Cave. First, very cute and small restaurant in the Montmarte area just near the funiculare. Lovely little outdoor area to sit on a warm spring day. Our waitress was wonderful and luckily spoke very good English to get us through our meal. The menu on chalk board looks like it changes daily and is in English. She was very helpful to guide us through the simple wine selections, but affordable and the Chardonnay we had was very nice. I would say that there spirit selection is limited, and so we stuck with the wine. We started with the veal bone marrow and foie gras pâté. Both were prepared well, but nothing wow. The mains is where we had a little bit of a let down. The special was pork tenderloin with a mustard sauce which was quite overwhelming on the mustard leaving the meat drowning. The duck was prepared to a nice medium well as requested, but the duck was tough and underseasoned. The food was not horrible, but just average in my opinion. Food: 28⁄40 Service/staff: 19⁄20 Ambiance/décor: 17⁄20 Value: 17⁄20 Total: 81⁄100

Un accueil convivial et sans excès de formalisme qui vous met directement dans l’ambiance d’un resto de quartier. Ils font un bœuf bourguignon excellent(17 €) qui peut facilement faire office de plat complet. Petit bémol la carte des vins…

Perfect find for anyone hungry after a lot of walking. This was recommended by a local shopkeeper — she told us it was a little walk, but worth it. So true! Since arriving I saw other reviews about the service — ours was great. It just took a few minutes to for our server to love us. Be nice and they’ll be nice back, even if you’re a tourist. We saw a table of locals eating the Bougeguon beef — it was amazing. I had the cod with zucchini and it was great also. Finished off with a glass of red wine. Back to our meal…

Quaint and unassuming place on Rue des Martyrs. If you want traditional French dishes for a reasonable price in the 18th, this is where you need to go. You can sit outside or inside, but it’s a fairly small restaurant. There is probably 20 seats outside and another 30 – 40 inside. The menu is written on a chalkboard — in French and English. Dishes we had: 1. Escargot: buttery, herby and garlicky.(14 €) 2. Bone marrow: big bones that were perfectly roasted. Served with sea salt, mixed greens and crusty bread. Best bone marrow I’ve ever had. So unctuous and not funky at all.(11 €) 3. Beef Bourguignon: the highlight of the meal! The stew comes in mini cocettes. The stew had pearl onions, bacon, buttery beef chunks and the most delicious red wine sauce. It was perfectly seasoned! The stew is served with a plate with buttery mashed potatoes. Scoop the stew on the plate and enjoy!(17 €) Service was good, especially since we showed up 15 min. before closing time. The wine selection could’ve been more extensive, but it was well-priced. The owner of this place also owns the bar/bistro across the street.
