Stumbled upon La Ferrandaise by chance as we were walking down the streets and was excited when we saw the decal mentioning that La Ferrandaise is one of the Michelin recommended restaurants. In my opinion, Restaurants in Europe are kind of humble and inconspicuously located as most of the time maybe because of the weather, their dark glass doors were closed and its hard to tell if they were open for business or even there is a crowd. Looking through the menu pinned right next to the entrance, our eyes were fixed on the promotional menu. Environment is modernly designed with some of their specialties scribbled on the black board. The place is popular among the locals and have a lovely cozy ambiance adding a romantic touch by the lighting. Restaurant was rather crowded and tables were placed quite close to each other with narrow walking aisles in between. We had the prefix lunch menu that combines the Entrée, main and dessert at an attractive price which we felt that was a steal. A good thing is that their menu will be changed from time to time and you wont get the similar combination of food. While waiting for our set menu, We were served with some warm breads. Soup was served in a petite cup. Since menu was fix and we did not really communicate much with the servers, we did not get the names of every individual item served. It tasted sweet and yummy like pumpkin soup. Though La Ferrandaise offers an extensive white list, we still prefer the juices as they were more on the budget side. Apple Juice — € 4,00 Having 3 courses on a plate has not been common for me and I was kind of culture shock even though I was expecting its portion size. With such portion, I’m confident I will complete the meal but that was not so true later on. Prefix Lunch Menu — € 16 Starting my meal from left to right and I have absolutely the least idea of what I am eating but it’s kind of interesting to order something I don’t know. What a sweet start to the meal! The entry was something grainy like cereals in milk(Purée form) topped with apricot and nuts. Moving on to the 2nd dish which is also the Main on the plate, it threw a surprise to me as the mini pot was much heavier than my expectation looking at its size. This is the dish much more closer to my heart and had my vote among the rest. With delicious mashed potatoes served with tender beef slices, they had already filled half of my stomach. The last dish was not to my liking as I’m not very used to all kinds of cold cut meat and livers. In the end I only have a few mouthful of the meat and clearing off the vegetables and cherries. My dining partner is at advantage as he enjoys second portion of the cold meat from me. I dislike the after taste of liver meat thus I will give this a miss. Heading to the area near the toilet, you will see such interesting corner. Baby friendly place spotted with a baby chair. It was a great find and we were very contented to have our lunch there. Food was wonderful and value for money as compared to other places dining in France. Even being the only Asians in the restaurant, I find that the level of service is commendable, professional and prompt. This is the best lunch I ever had in Paris during my trip.

My mother and I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant, based on the recommendation of our hotel. We were an hour late for our reservation because of weather and traffic but they still accommodated us. The menu was French only, lending it a more authentic feel. I had the steak which was fantastic; cooked perfectly, the sauce was so good I wanted to lick my plate and the gateaux of potatoes was a nice twist on the traditional steak and potatoes bit. My mother had the scallops(which I did not sample) but she won’t stop talking about how amazing they were. We split a chocolate mousse with orange flavor for dessert. It was small but added the perfect finishing touch to the meal. The house wine — a cote de brouilly — was delicious and paired well with both of our meals. They change their menu monthly but I am sure you will be happy with whatever you order there. We are considering going back for another visit when the menu changes tomorrow.

This is a combination of my experience and my fiancé’s. We tried to order formule and one tasting menu since he’s allergic to seafood and we couldn’t leave his dishes up to the kitchen. Unable to, understandably, we then did two formules with excitement. My fiancé had chosen this spot after doing a whole bunch of research and was enthusiastically talking up the meal. Words like Michelin recommended, great beef, fresh ingredients, Unilocal reviews are great filled the space between getting there — brushing my teeth, putting on shoes, and leaving the place we were staying and the short walk to the restaurant. Course 1 — great! Scallops(me) Pâté(him and me) Course 2 Duck(me) — great! Flavorful and perfectly cooked. Beef(him) — overcooked, tough, and did not like the flavor. Course 3 Panna cotta ok just okay Café gourmand ok cake a little dry

Came to this restaurant on my last night in Paris after a 5 day trip. Maybe I had too high of an expectations, especially after seeing all the good reviews on the internet, but I really cannot put myself to giving this restaurant anything more than a 2 stars. the stars rating coming mainly from the very friendly staff and the nice ambience of the restaurant, but the food. oh gosh, the food was just so blah? The fish in the main course was so bad that I had to order a different dish. I mean, the presentation of the dish was good, but it was tastless(my husband had the chef’s cut, I had the fish initially and later changed to the scallop). we asked them later if the usual chef is present or on vacation(since we simply cannot believe what we were experiencing), but apparently it is the same usual chef. I dont know, maybe being jet lagged affects our taste buds?

Service is the only redeeming quality to this place. It’s Michelin recommended in 2013 and 2014, not sure how that happened because the food was rather disappointing. The portions were big, but the quality was poor. Maybe the chef was on vacation? They say they only use fresh ingredients, but they might as well be frozen because I couldn’t tell the difference. The tomatoes weren’t ripe, they didn’t do anything to preserve the freshness of the seasonal vegetables(mushy and over cooked), the main dishes were pedestrian, and the mango and passion fruit sorbet was really sour, like the chef didn’t even bother to tasting anything before serving. This definitely puts into question the validity of the Michelin recommended status and the Unilocal stars. On this day, it was well below what I would expect from an average Parisian restaurant.

A nice little restaurant with a VERY friendly staff. The ambiance and vibe of La Ferrandaise was very comfortable. I cook for a hobby and take pride in what I present to my guests. I paid a premium for a veal chef’s cut and my daughter had the beef chef’s cut. I would not serve this to my guests as a chef. Either the steak knives were dull, not, or the meat was very tough. It was the later. Both my daughter and I had to fight with our food. My wife’s meal was pretty good, a favorable veal stew. The wine list was … And La Ferrandaise was expensive for the quality. If the food was as good as the staff, they’d have a winner.

Loved this place! A lovely, quaint location near the Latin Quarter. The food was modern with a delightful hint of the French countryside. I was charmed by everything from the mini Le Creuset individual serving pots to the expert presentation. I’m not a huge fan of sweets, but I had the pleasure of enjoying one of the best deserts I’ve ever tasted here. I highly recommend this little gem.

So I have to rate La Ferrandaise within the context of French bistros. Had it been anywhere else in the world, I may have given it 4 stars, but compared to the other meals we had in France, this was the least impressive. The location is lovely, right near Jardin du Luxembourg. The interior is cozy and quite cramped in the front room, but seems par for the course for several Parisian restaurants. I quite liked the dim lighting and chalkboard specials. By 8pm, every table was full, so I do suggest reservations. The restaurant is friendly towards English speakers. As mentioned previously, it’s 35 euros for three courses. Our starters, carrot & coconut cream soup and mock turtle pastilla, were the highlights. The mock turtle starter was completely delicious, and all I could think the entire time was about Alice in Wonderland and poor Mock Turtle. No, it’s not turtle, but it’s likely calf brains/organs that are prepared in a way to emulate the texture and taste of real turtle. Never had it prior to this, but can advocate that it was awesome. The carrot and coconut soup had a smooth velvety texture, however, did lack a punch on the taste. A bit bland. As for the main courses, the butcher’s piece of beef and the butcher’s piece of suckling veal, they were a bit disappointing. I wanted the meats to be melt-in-your-mouth tender, but they weren’t. They were actually bordering on sinewy and tough, rendering each bite a workout. Maybe we chose poorly. However, when you hear«butcher’s choice,» you tend to think of superior cuts. Dessert was 50⁄50. The house special my husband had wasn’t very good — it tasted purely of rum and was dry otherwise. The cream puffs(chef’s choux puffs) were excellent. Anything with pastry and cream is a winner in my book! Service was prompt, the atmosphere was busy and loud, the food was good but not fantastic. Would I go back? Not sure. With thousands of choices in Paris, maybe not.

Wonderful cute environment. This a great place with a few friends and or a date. They’re affordable compared to other places in Paris. They have 3 course option for 35 € or 2 courses for 31 € or one course for 22 €. They also have a 6 course tasting menu for 65 €. I wanted to do the tasting menu, but got to the restaurant too late(around 9pm) and they have stopped serving the tasting menu but still had regular menu. I ordered the steak of the day. Parisians like to put«chef’s cut» as the steak option. Just means the cut will be whatever the chef finds to be the best to serve. It’s a bit annoying if u wanted a certain cut that night. The steak was a little more rare than what was asked. For the appetizer, I order escargot and they were really really good! I forget the name of the dessert but it had a chocolate cake like brownie and sorbet. Great ending to my meal. One of the friends I was with was vegetarian. she didn’t ask about the vegetarian options and just ordered the scallops. It had bits of bacon in it so she just picked it out. I tried some and it was very good. Also had wine that night, my friends and I just went by pricing. Picked a 28 € bottle and we actually all liked it. Would definitely come back to this place again.

After pouring over countless reviews of French restaurants in Paris, I finally settled on La Ferrandaise for my birthday dinner location. I was looking for light, delicious French food that would be creative and relatively affordable. The set menu(starter, main, dessert) was € 35, which seemed comparable to other similar restaurants in the area. Following the recommendations made in several reviews, I emailed them two days before our arrival to request a reservation for dinner for two at 7pm on a Friday night. Being the consummate tourists, we were the first people to arrive at the restaurant. After we were seated, the restaurant staff trickled in and made their way to the kitchen to start cooking for the one table that insisted on eating so much earlier than everyone else in France. Luckily, a few minutes later a pair of French men came in, so we weren’t the restaurant’s sole diners for too long. The set menu had about 6 – 8 options for each course and we opted for the escargot and citrus cannelloni with crab for our starters. Having never eaten escargot before, I don’t have much to compare to, but these were served in a garlic mushroom sauce and were(unsurprisingly) chewy and not particularly flavorful. The sauce was nicely seasoned though and added a lot to the dish. The cannelloni(served chilled) was the star starter here, delightfully fresh, delicate and original. I wish I had gotten that instead, but I had to try escargot at least once in Paris! For our mains we chose the scallops on top of creamy polenta and the veal. While the scallops were delicious, they were quite small and I finished them quickly while wishing I had ordered something more substantial. I sampled some of my boyfriend’s veal which was cooked melt-in-your-mouth perfectly in a light and creamy curry flavored sauce with carrots and onions. As the restaurant began to fill up(and at least ten people without reservations were turned away) we got our dessert. I was disappointed to see a completely different set of desserts on the menu than those that were posted on the website’s menu from the previous month, but opted for the chocolate banana pudding. My boyfriend chose a lemongrass coconut one but we weren’t sure whether it was cake, mousse or something else entirely. The descriptions for the desserts were quite vague and the waiter who took our orders didn’t speak enough English(and we didn’t speak enough French) to be able to figure out what exactly we would be getting. Both desserts turned out to be little slices of cake, mine dense and creamy, the lemongrass coconut one light and fluffy. They were nice, but nothing to write home about. I enjoyed the crepes and croissants I’d eaten during our stay more than I did these fancy desserts. Overall, the service was efficient, the food was tasty, and the restaurant had a nice ambiance to it. Our bill came to nearly € 100, without wine or any apertifs, which was a bit more than I would want to pay for such small portions. It wasn’t the best meal I’ve ever eaten, but it was definitely the best dinner I had in Paris.

It has been a few years since I have been here, but so glad we found it again during a recent work trip. It is one of my favorite places in Paris, and located perfectly. La Ferrandaise is in the 6th, and very close to Luxembourg Gardens if you are interested in a pre-dinner stroll to work up your appetite(the gardens close at dusk). La Ferrandaise is deceivingly spacious inside. The main room has about 10 tables, but there is also a back room for larger party along with a lower level. This is important because it is one of the few places that allows walk-ins on a weeknight, just like any other restaurant in Paris on the weekends, reservations are needed. We walked up at 5PM on a Thursday, and they were able to give us a reservation when they opened at 7PM. They have menus in English and Chinese. When in Paris I usually go with the 3-course meal option which is recommended at most places(La Ferrandaise = 35 euro). They have a seasonal menu that changes bimonthly. I started with the escargot. They were served differently than other places. The meat was pulled out of the shells, and served in a rich, creamy sauce. They were fantastic! I ordered the confit shoulder of lamb, various orange-flavoured carrots for my main course. It was also delicious… the lamb was sooo tender, it fell apart with a fork. The roasted cocoa beans tender biscuit, vanilla-flavoured Chantilly cream was a perfect ending to a week in Paris. I also recommend the gambas ravioli, ginger, fresh herbs and vegetable broth followed by the Wild Breton coasts fish baked in a spices crust, stuffed Jerusalem artichokes.

Nice meal in rather simple but refined atmosphere. Nothing really wowed, but everything was très correct, especially a delightful mille feuille to close out the meal. Slow even by French standards. Probably not worth a trip, but certainly a reliable standby if you’re staying in the area.

Frank the owner is very friendly, professional, and accommodating. He adjusted my reservation time for me several times. He loves to joke and make his guests feel welcome. The food was perfect. The décor and ambiance was spot on. This is a must see type of restaurant!

If only we’d noticed this restaurant, right next door to our hotel, when we first arrived. If only we’d read the hotel’s list of recommended restaurants, instead of wandering through the Latin Quarter getting so-so food. Alas, we only discovered this place walking back to the hotel on our last night. La Ferrandaise was simply amazing. The food was fresh, seasonal and interestingly prepared. I had duck liver pâté with house made green pea ice cream on top as a starter, and it only got better from there. The service was perfect, the wine was delicious, and the prices were reasonable(for a Michilin listed restaurant). We got dessert *and* the cheese course, which did not disappoint. Even though our French was sparse, the staff was incredibly polite. the restaurant is small, so if you blink, you’ll walk right past it — though they did seem to have additional seating downstairs.

I must thank Alexander Lorano for mentioning this restaurant because it truly is a hidden gem tucked away in the Latin quarter. Small and rustic this is a true gastronomical french bistro. Not an easy place to get reservations not because its booked for months ahead of time but because it is cherished by locals. After 4 attempts to get in, our last day in Paris we were able to get reservations in the early evening. My wife and I decided to get the 6 course tasting menu and wine paring to attack what seemed to be a chef in great demand. Kevin Besson, head chef did not disappoint. We first started out with radishes and truffle butter, next course was some real delicate pâté, mozzarella and bread and some chartucherie on top of white beans, next was a sardine on top of soft goat cheese, followed by a dish that mimicked a payaya with clams, fried sea bream and polenta. Next was grilled veal(nice and bloody) and ratatouille. The cheese plate was filling and dessert had a nice double chocolate mousse accompanied by kiwi fruit and strawberries. Fantastic night.
