I was starving after my night cruise on the river Seine and we had just popped out of the Saint Michel Metro station. It was 11 pm and this place was still open and still serving dinner. Hooray for that. I was seated on the patio and people-watched. Grace went back to the hotel because of mild food poisoning so I was dining solo. The only bad thing about sitting on the Patio is that people smoke. They had patio heaters so the cold wasn’t an issue. The waiter handed me a menu in French which I made out a few words. I guess me looking at it intently for an abnormally long period of time, he finally realized he should give me the English menu, and did. But hey, I can sort of read French but who was I kidding, I was starving and my brain was fried. I quickly ordered the duck entrée and didn’t order wine to his dismay. I already had a bottle of Evian with me so I just sat that on the table before me. The service was fast. The duck was nicely plated with salad and potatoes. The salad was substantial but I didn’t care too much for the dressing which had a slight horseradish flavor. The potatoes were nicely cooked. I did wish for some ketchup which was not available. The duck was perfectly medium rare. Yum! The waiter asked if I wanted dessert and gave me a list of items. He recommended the crème brûlée. I hesitated because I wasn’t sure how big it would be so I asked him about it. He said it was a small sized dessert. I ordered it. It was not that good. I was really excited to have crème brûlée in Paris and yet was disappointed by a mealy textured crème brûlée. It wasn’t the right consistency and dare I say, a little dry like it had been sitting there all night. Aside from dessert, the food was good and the service was good.
