Le Citizen Hotel

Aaah ça me fait mal de mettre 3 étoiles seulement à mon séjour au Citizen… mais malheureusement j’ai un peu joué de malchance et du coup je né me vois vraiment pas mettre plus, surtout parce que j’ai eu une promotion via Hotel Tonight, mais la chambre est normalement annoncée à 199 euros, je pense donc que pour ce prix, le service doit être absolument irréprochable et de mon côté, il manquait quelques petites choses.
Pour commencer par le positif, le vrai bon point du Citizen est sa localisation, en plein sur le canal Saint-​Martin, quai de Jemmapes. La chambre est bien isolée du bruit, l’hôtel est tout petit et on se sent presque comme à la maison. Niveau confort du lit, c’est parfait, la chambre est mignonne et la salle de bains aussi, petit mais efficace, j’ai juste regretté l’absence de bureau pour travailler. Et le wifi fonctionne très bien !
Le souci, c’est que c’est petit, et on s’attend à être totalement chouchouté, mais il manqué un petit quelque chose… Je né sais pas si c’est moi qui n’ai pas compris, mais on né m’a jamais indiqué en deux nuits qu’il y avait un petit déjeuner, ni s’il était inclus dans le prix ou à quel tarif il était servi, quelle heure, etc. Résultat: je pensais qu’il n’y en avait pas et j’ai découvert en partant qu’a priori si, il y en avait un. Très étrange ! Idem pour le numéro de la réception, il né m’a pas été donné, et j’ai dû descendre pieds nus à l’accueil pour qu’on me le donne (le 79, vous le saurez, ce n’est pas évident)… Parce que oui, manqué de chance, en me réveillant le premier matin… pas d’eau chaude ! J’ai tout essayé et j’ai dû renoncer, souci électrique dans la nuit, tout l’hôtel était privé d’eau chaude… Certes c’est un manqué de chance pour l’hôtel et j’ai pu revenir prendre ma douche parfaite et bien chaude à midi, mais j’avoue que ça m’a gâché un peu le séjour… D’autant que même à ce moment là, on né m’a pas proposé de petit-​déjeuner, et je suis donc partie à mon rendez-​vous le ventre vide et les cheveux sales, je vous laisse imaginer mon humeur!!! J’ai l’impression de faire un peu ma princesse avec cet avis, mais j’avoue que j’aurais eu une réunion importante ce matin là, ça aurait été totalement le drame (non, je né prends pas de douche gelée, je m’y refuse).
En résumé: si je retrouve le même deal sur Hotel Tonight, je n’hésiterai pas à retourner au Citizen Hotel, mais ce n’est pas encore un coup de coeur total. A confirmer sur la durée !

We loved this hotel. The staff was wonderful and helpful. On arrival we were upgraded to one of the suites that overlooked the canal. The view was beautiful. The room was clean, nicely designed and very comfortable. The breakfasts were great, a lovely way to start the day. It is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed at anywhere… small, attentive staff and well designed.
We have been to Paris many times and stayed in different areas of the city. This was our favorite location so far. So many wonderful restaurants and cafes, and so close to the Marais as well. We loved the Canal and the parks along it, even in winter it is beautiful.
Will stay there again!

I traveled to Paris in June for a week and a half trip with my boyfriend. We stayed at 3 different hotels throughout the span of the trip and Le Citizen was my absolute favorite. We were supposed to stay 4 days but ended up extending the stay here because the room and entire staff was just too great.
We stayed in one of the Zen suites that overlooked out onto the canal. We were on the 5^th floor so we were high enough for a pretty good view out our windows. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. If you call down before 11am you can have complimentary breakfast pastries delivered to your room. On our last day we had breakfast crepes which were crazy good! They also offer a free ipad for the room and complimentary mini bar.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a non touristy location in Paris. There are so many great restaurants and bars within walking distance and you can even sit out on the canal with all the locals and drink beer and wine all night.
I will be back one day for sure!

Anyhow, did I ever mention how kind the owner was? I got lost at the Lourve of all places and the front desk called Le Citizen. She answered the phone and asked to talk with me. I told her that I lost my partner to which she kindly replied, «I’m so sorry. Would you like me to send a car to get you back home?» Home? Home is Le Citizen? Oh, more like heaven.
And the next day there was homemade strawberry conserve.
I’m going back there some day. I hope I never get lost.

Situated directly facing the bustling Canal St. Martin, Le Citizen is a little jewel box of a hotel with incredibly efficient and friendly service. We had one of the Zen Suites with a line of windows opening onto the Canal. So many shops and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel that we were so sad to only have 1 night here.
