No frills mussel service in the heart of Paris. Reviews were mixed, but i can honestly say I’d return for the fantastic mussels they serve here. Several varieties to choose from. I recommend mariner, but the provencal looked great too. Served with unlimited frites. Every mussel was full, plump, and fresh. Zero dead ones(unopened) in the entire pot. Absolutely no sand or grit either. A rarity for stateside restaurants trying to put moules on the menu. Service was fast and friendly. Staff speaks enough English to make you feel comfortable. You could spend twice as much and twice the time trying to find another place, but why bother. If all you want is quality mussels to chow down, just go to Leon.

Food was mediocre at best. You could get something better elsewhere for much cheaper. The mussels were the standard expected of a franchise chain(tasteless, cooked alright) but the chips were awful. Stale, cold and seemed like it was cooked from frozen packages. McDonald’s chips tastes heaps better! Do not even try the ketchup they provide. I almost spat it out. Service was awful. I ordered the mussels with chorizo but they gave me calamari instead without any explanation. When i asked the waiter, he said they ran out of chorizo, yet he did not bother to let me know before the food came out! I would’ve ordered something else had i known there would be no chorizo(the only reason i wanted that dish). If you have a choice, dine elsewhere. Not worth your money. Moules are average. Frites are disgusting.

We were recommended this place and again the recommendations were questionable indeed. We ordered Moule Frites and Carbonade and as a starter Calamaris. Bad, bad, bad… The pots were worn down and seemed dirty, the French Fries were cold and made of premade frozen mashed potatoes, the Calamaris were soft and badly fried, the Carbonade was unbeatable, cold and really badly served, three pieces served with a small piece of carrot. My wife was hungry and had the mussels while I refuse to eat cold food. We got the FF exchanged but they came in only hot, Totally tasteless and a waist of money … Never again… FF should be a Belgian/French speciality but not at this restaurant.

I went to a Leon once when I was 18, and then returned again at 30 to see if it was as good as I remembered. Leon was my first experience with mussels, and I’ve always remembered it fondly. This time, after having had mussels many times and numerous lovely meals since, I was a bit less impressed. The atmosphere feels like a chain, and doesn’t have that special, romantic flair that so many restaurants in Paris have. Lights are too bright, doesn’t feel intimate… I got the mussels provencale, and they were fine — as were the unlimited frites — but nothing was really special, and things were not served as hot as I’d like. The frites didn’t seem fresh-cut, either. The price is very good though, for Paris. For budget travellers or those who want something very reliable, I think this would be a good choice. But if you want mussels, there must be loads of better places in Paris!

Traveling with a toddler is challenging. Trying to find a good restaurant in Paris that will happily accommodate said fidgety toddler(and all his accoutrements) is really difficult – ideally there has to be space for a stroller, and the meal has to be relatively quick as the fidgety toddler will not sit through 3 courses, even when restrained in his stroller or portable high chair, as we had discovered on previous dining attempts. Finding this place was a breath of fresh air. The restaurant was roomy inside, allowing us to have the fidgety toddler in his stroller by the table, or next to us on the bench. The food was served quickly, and portions were large. The seafood was also fresh(no food poisoning!). We got the Leon mussels and the Leon«salad». I am aware that this place is a chain and not necessarily authentic, but it was exactly what we needed for a stress-free dinner.

Soggy, undercooked frites dampened the excellent moules. Cod and chips was underwhelming and unsatisfyingly petit. Wait staff mixed up the order. We cut our losses and went elsewhere for dessert.

Not-so-great moules frites chain. I remember having been to another branch many years ago in Brussels and liking it, so I thought I’d try Léon in Paris. Ordered the mussels a la plancha with prawns and calamari(20.90 €), the quantity was generous but the seafood was just not good. Even overlooking the large clump of sandy, black grit on one side of the platter, the mussels were fine but not very flavorful and a bunch were opened. Hard to use the sauce to add some flavor when it’s filled with grains of sand! Calamari were similarly boring, prawns were quite good. Sampled some other dishes, mostly mussels, and wasn’t impressed by the marinara-based sauces either — watery and bland. The fries were unmistakably the pre-frozen kind, some were burnt to a crisp and others were soggy. Belgian beers were great, service was unattentive, definitely not worth a return visit.

Oh by the way, the food was TERRIBLE. We got the«Fried sampler,» the fried squid tasted like fried paste and the french fries came out cold and soggy. My friend got the fish and chips. The fish was sitting in a pool of grease!

I’m s a seafood lover and honestly I really love loved the fragrance and flavorful mussels here. I order the mussels Provence and it was just so delicious i almost order a second serving. I can’t really compare to other restaurants since this is my first experience with Belgium style mussels but I don’t care, my tummy enjoyed the meal so much. At 17 pounds a serving, it’s really a steal for the amount of mussels they give you. Tourist or not, you have to give this a try. And go the the store in at germain district, I hear it’s the best! L

Hmm… I know this is a very historic/famous place in Brussels, Belgium, the origin of the«Moules Frites»(mussels and fries). But I found this place subpar, then most Moules frites places that I have tried in Brussels. Their fries were pretty soggy, not crispy at all on the outside. The Moules were ok, but neither of the white wine or the tomato base soup were good. Big portions and reasonable pricing though. I will say that this is more of a tourist trap like many others in the Saint Germain area.

I love their food. Its delicious and the portions are great compared to the price. The only thing to be careful about is the branch you choose to eat at. I tried the one in republique and it sucked. However the one in Saint Germain is one of the best.

Seriously…, for quality, tremendous portions and reasonable prices, this is the place to go in Paris for mussels. The first time I ate here was Spring Break in 2000, a kid with an adult palate traveling with my parents. We ordered the moules frittes special which was a big, delicious salad for each of us; a bucket of mussels for each; a large bowl of frittes for each and crème Brulee for desert. Even after leaving a lot of food on our plates, I thought I was going to explode in 2000 and again in 2014. The memory was clearly etched in my mind, albeit a memory of excellent mussels and delicious sides and accompaniments. Nevermind it’s a chain, it’s a Parisian chain specializing in the most fresh and delicious mussels, and that makes all the difference!

We always get our fill of moules frittes whenever we return to St. Germain. They’ve got a large menu, but the point of dining here is for the mussels. I really like their La plancha de moules aux fruits de la mer. This location is on the intersection of Blvd. St. Germain and Mabillon so it is always very crowded. And it’s popular not only with us visitors but also with the locals. It’s also open on Sundays which comes in very handy as many restaurants close on Sundays. For a simple meal of mussels and fries it really can’t be beat unless one travels to Belgium. Another great thing is the variety of Belgium beers they serve. As for the service it is always quick and friendly.

After been here in Paris for four days, we decided to go to a franchise restaurant and it was not a disappointment. The place was packed, but the mussels were great, I ordered the dijonnaise sauce along with another friend, my wife ordered the pepper sauce and both of them were really good, good beer, good food, we had great company, nothing to complain about this place, I don’t understand the bad reviews… Give it a try, it’s good

Yes, it’s a chain. But it’s a chain that specializes in Mussels! Our server was friendly & attentive. I had baked mussels in an escargot butter sauce & my buddy & girlfriend had mussels in a dijonnaise & ardennaise sauce/broth. All of which were delicious. Nice, casual environment to have a meal after an afternoon of sightseeing.

Wow, I’m astonished that I haven’t rated Léon de Bruxelles yet: O This is only my second time, though. I’d give 5 stars for the food, but 2 stars for the service(at this location, at least). I enjoyed my experience here both times, but my food and my company were definitely the redeeming factors. Good things first, because it’s more likely that you’ll read those: p PROS + It’s a very large restaurant, so even though it’s pretty popular, you’re very likely to get a seat. And it’s good for large groups and children. + They’re open every day, including Sunday evening! And you even get mussels à volonté(unlimited) on Sunday evening. What a steal: O + There are a ton of choices for mussels and beer. I’ve never gotten the beer, but the mussels are great. I especially like the moules à la méridonale(mussels smothered in tomato sauce, cheese and pesto, mmm!). + They have an English menu, and speak English fine, if you need it. + Portions are very generous. If that one plate of moules à la méridonale isn’t enough, you can get another plate for only 2 €! Incredible. + Unlimited fries! And depending what time/day of the week you come, you can get other unlimited goodies. :D CONS + Bad service #1: I came here for Christmas with two friends. One of them didn’t speak French, so we spoke in English and got the English menus. The waiter put these red ribbons around our wrists, and when we asked him what it was for, he mumbled incoherently something about Christmas. Okay, cool … However, at the end of the meal, we found out that we each got billed 1 € for the charity bracelet. I’m definitely not opposed to charity(and it was only 1 €), but I would’ve very much appreciated it if he had told us what it was for. I was shocked by this behavior because I’ve only heard of it as a tourist scam in the touristy areas of Paris. + Bad service #2: My friend got moules à la cocotte(steamed in wine) and I got mine à la meridonale. His came steaming hot, but to my surprise, mine was cold. It wasn’t cold as in just-came-out-of-the-fridge cold, but the cheese had congealed and it just didn’t taste very appetizing. I was seriously displeased. After four mussels, I couldn’t stand it anymore and broke through my normal politeness to ask them to reheat it(please). It came back a lot better. + The Belgian waffle was pretty disappointing. Nothing like a real Belgian waffle, and really nothing spectacular at all. In fact, it was overcooked and tasted slightly burnt. Overall, I’d recommend checking the site(you can get 10 € off for dinner if you go with at least one person) which will tell you which days have good deals. Sunday night should be excellent :) Don’t bother with the formule; the mussels are filling enough. If you really want dessert, get one from Pâtisserie de Rêves nearby or something. If not for the bad service, I would really, really like Léon de Bruxelles. Perhaps I should try another branch. After all, unlimited, delicious fries? You’re halfway to my heart already.

I like moule marinieres et frites and was really looking forward to a nice dinner here. Overall, I wasn’t disappointed but somehow it just was not up to the standard I had expected, especially after I had travelled a bit to get here. For a start, don’t bother ordering the mussels if it isn’t with the roquefort sauce. All the other sauces were rather bland and insipid. The chips were rather good though. Ambience is of a regular busy French bistro and service is quite good. There were a lot of tourists as well, and this is definitely this place’s target audience.
