CLOSEDBUT: i used to go there almost once a week, but now i don’t there anymore since i moved to another arrondissement. They actually make there own tortilla, which makes the burrito sooo tasty!

Dommage.

Real, cheap Mexican in Paris! Cheaper than a lot of the other Mexican places around(I’m looking at you, La Perla) and featuring… wait for it… people that are actually from Central America, which is a surprising rarity in France. Didn’t see anyone from Mexico while I was there, but I will take what I can get. Set up by an American and a Central American(I think), it’s modeled after the cheap and cheerful Mexican dive restaurants you get in the Mission District of San Francisco. Service is slow, but the food is good and cheap, as are the beers. Real authentic hot sauce and Mexican wrestling masks don’t hurt either.

In my experience, mexican food in europe leaves little to be desired… Thankfully, when a craving hits, Paris has Rice and Beans. A limited menue that hosts fresh ingredients and competitive prices is served in a canteen style environment. The guacamole is delish and the taco’s are only 3euro each !

After reading the reviews on here, my friend and I were super excited about Mexican brunch in Paris. We both ordered the huevos rancheros, mine with chorizo and hers veggie(which just means without chorizo). and we both did not finish our meals, which quite frankly, is unprecedented for us in a mexican(ish) establishment. It was just not good and not mexican tasting. The black beans had a ton of black pepper in them for some reason. and the chorizo in my case was just kindof bleh. There was no salsa or sour cream or cheese. The tortillas that they home-make were seemingly just okay. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing. But in any case, a major let down.

Finally went to this place/found it last week. I made the mistake of stopping once I saw Rice and Fish and assuming that Rice and Beans had closed… do not make that mistake, it is just a little deeper into Rue Greneta! We got there right around 7:30 when they opened so we wouldn’t have to wait around for a seat, which was a good plan because by the time we left at 8:30 there was a very sizable group of people waiting outside. The first thing I noticed about Rice and Beans was the décor… it was a really colorful interior with awesome paintings on the windows and a chandelier covered in pinatas… a French attempt at authenticity which just a little off, but still really fun. I ordered two tacos – chipotle chicken and the carnitas. The carnitas was good, but the chicken was much better. I could have sworn they sneaked some mustard onto the taco… or maybe mayo? Oops… My friend got the quesadilla which was really good, I think it had cheddar cheese on it, which is probably as authentic as it gets in Paris… no chihuahua here I bet. We also shared the guacamole which was small, but just a passable size for two to share. The chips left something to be desired, came from a bag and had some seasoning on them that took them into the realm of Doritos, totally unnecessary. I washed this all down with a margarita that was sort of frozen, sort of on the rocks. It was 6 euros(as much as my two tacos combined, haha). I’m used to the super strong, huge, cheap margaritas we get in the States, so I was mildly let down, but it definitely hit the spot. Overall I’d say this place won’t disappoint you, especially if you are an American seeking Mexican food in Paris!

Great place for Cali-Mex! I have had the tacos and the burritoes, and they both satisfied my craving for Mexican. Mexican cuisine seems to be the hardest thing to find in Paris… especially good Mexican cuisine. The burritoes are my fave. They are also my husband’s, who earned the respect of one of the servers when he ate TWO one night. I think the server was mostly impressed because my husband is French, but can eat like an American! The atmosphere is fun. I like sitting family-style at a big wood table with sauces interspersed along it. The music can be good on some days, but bad on others. All in all, a great place to go… but I would get there early(like when they open) for a spot, especially for lunch or weekend dinner times.

Absolutely delicious. Was craving Mexican and was sick of the faux-mexican places since I am from the states. This place totally hit the spot. Enjoy!

I miss Mexican food probably the most of any cuisine here in Paris. Sometimes you just have to have a taco. Sometimes you just want something a little spicy, something completely non-French. And Rice & Beans totally delivered. I went with a big group of friends; the seating is family-style but there aren’t a lot of seats, so we were lucky we got there at opening(kickin’ it American style, what’s up). Pitchers of margaritas, awesome tacos, rice & beans avec… the only disappointment was the chips(looking suspiciously exactly like the chips I buy at Marché U) and that the plats are on the pricier side. I was happy with everything we ordered though, so I didn’t mind. This place is everything I wanted it to be.

I read about this place on the Eurostar from London and how it was run by two people, one being American. I certainly never think of Mexican food in Paris, but it seemed like it might be good and American friendly. The service was great, and I loved the guacamole! It was like being back in the States! I certainly recommend it for a great little lunch!

We went out to Rice & Beans last week for dinner & drinks. We did not know that they didn’t take reservation and this was not pointed out in advance after one person both called & emailed but good for future info… We were about 8 people so started out in their little room on the lower level which was actually quite fun. It has a stereo system that you can connect an iPod or iPhone to if you would like to listen to your own music. Our server, Alexis, was fabulous and got his exercise running up and down the stairs with our food/beverages. We ordered an assortment of tacos and burritos accompanied by rice and beans(thought it was a good choice, considering their name !) as well as guacamole. Not everyone was familiar with Mexican food so some found the burritos too heavy on the beans. I personally enjoyed them and thought the food to be very good. Tacos were the overwhelming favourite along with the guacamole. After we finished eating, we moved upstairs for another bottle of wine before ending a lovely evening. The décor was quirky and fun, service perfect, food delicious and we liked the red wiine but were not too keen on the white. Definitely worth returning to and recommending !

This low-scale Mexican with colorful quirky accents scattered throughout is charming to say the least. The communal tables, super affordable prices(burritos 7−9E; soft tacos 3E/piece) and den-like atmosphere give the place a college canteen feel that’s very unfussy and fun. The food really hit the spot: my basic chicken burrito was nicely filled with moist shredded chicken and smoky black beans, but I question the choice of lettuce as a star ingredient. My lunch was unpleasantly tainted, however, by the horrible techno soundtrack that we were subjected to. Combined with the intense red light at our table I felt like I was at a surreal Mexican rave, sans the dancing. Regardless, I’m willing to put up with more bad music to test out the amazing-looking brunch menu that they serve on weekends with Chipotle Eggs Benedict and Huevos Rancheros at the very normal price of 10E a pop not like the ridiculous 35E brunch menus Parisians are shelling out for these days. Oh, and if you’re looking for a fun spot to dine with a bunch of friends, they have a private dining room downstairs with a round table and carpets on the wall that feels very surreptitious and revoutionary-like. I dig! NB: Cash only.

Of all of the restos I’ve tried in Paris, Rice & Beans might have been the most impressive. Mostly this is because of how impossible it is to find decent Mexican cuisine in Europe. My first trip to Rice & Beans was at brunch time, with a fellow Californian. We bit into our breakfast burritos, moaned, and then high-fived. Mission accomplished. No more searching for a great plate of spicey, beaney, ricey goodness. THEYMAKETHEIROWNTORTILLAS. If you’ve ever had Mexican food in Paris, you know how wonderful that is. All I can say is go. I’ve never heard of dissapointment at this wonderful little establishment.

Rice and beans takes up the space formerly known as Rice and Fish at 22 Rue Greneta. No worries, the owners plan to find a new location for Rice and Fish. I ordered the super burrito and my friend ordered the assortment of 3 tacos. As a native Californian, I’d have to say that this burrito is at the top of my list for burritos in Paris. They’re hearty, full, and come with salsa, my salsa happened to be tomatillo, though I saw someone else with regular pico de gallo. The taco of the day was scallop, and my friend also ordered pork(carnitas) and beef. They looked tasty and the corn tortillas, home made. The dishes aren’t very very spicy; they’re toned down for the French palate. The burrito was a lot more flavorful than most of the burritos I’ve had in Paris. I expected the carnitas to be a little be more crunchy, but I wasn’t too disappointment. The only noticeable area for improvement is the service. Even though there is only one person working in the kitchen, it is a little awkward when only one person receives their plate, and everyone has to wait patiently as the other orders slowly come out of the kitchen. This place is definitely a stop for those missing Mexican food!

I’m a bit of a purist when it comes to sushi.(See this review from San Francisco: ) To save some breath, the above is how I feel about Rice & Fish. To move from San Francisco to Paris and yet again find the only reliable non-Japanese run sushi right in my neighborhood is some sort of miracle. In this case, however, I’m excited not for Tsukiji-grade perfection or strict omakase, but real, genuine… California style sushi. What?! The self-proclaimed purist is betraying his Japanese blood by praising California sushi?! Yes. And doing so gladly. Because while Rice & Fish may not be a traditional Japanese sushi joint, it’s among the best in Paris for freshness, creativity, and conviviality. Mind you, the chef knows exactly what he’s doing and serves up perfectly crafted nigiri and(mostly) maki that any Japan-trained sushi-ya would be proud of. There are equal parts of substance and style here. Crazy fresh fish, the rare soft-shelled crab, unique rolls featuring ocean trout or maybe pumpkin… It’s a great place to enjoy fresh, creative food in a fun, casual atmosphere. Even the music is consistently great. There are a couple of drawbacks: First, there is often a long wait at dinner time. But the restaurant and the staff are small, so that’s a given. Relax and enjoy a beer or yuzu cocktail. Secondly, there’s the chance that they’ll be out of whatever you’re ordering. I take this as a good sign, that they keep a stock of only what’s fresh each day. And you can’t beat that. So this may not be the place to go if you’ve already got your mind set on a spicy tuna hand-roll served within five minutes. But if you have a little time and are ready to ask«What’s good today?» you’re all set. Oh, and saving the best for last: The prices will leave your wallet as happy as your palate. Itadaki-masu!
