Today was my third time at the Sushi Shop on Saint-Dominique. While the place has cutesy boxes and packaging, we’re there for the sushi, and let’s face it, the place has mediocre sushi at best. However, it’s close and convenient for pickup and sometimes when you’re feeling for a roll and want it quick, you’re willing to sacrifice a little on quality. Well, today I’ve decided never again. The last two times I went there I requested a little«spicy sauce» on the side — you know, that tasty little dish of orange, spicy mayo — and they gave it to me no problem. However, today, when I asked for it with my takeout order I was told by the cashier that he doesn’t have the authority to give me any. I told him that I would happily pay for it, but he said that money wasn’t the issue, he just could not make the decision to give me a little cup of mayonaise. I asked him if there was anyone in the entire restaurant who had the authority to make a decision and he said«no, no one here is able to make that type of decision»… even though it was lunch hour on a Friday afternoon. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when I finally returned home and looked in the bag, they had messed up my order. If this place had wicked good sushi I could suffer management’s incompetence, but couple that with mediocre sushi and I’m the idiot for giving these people any more of my money. From now on I’ll go around the corner to Ave. Bosquet where there are family owned sushi places where the owners and employees actually try to make customers happy.

Good sushi. Affordable. Really nice décor. There is one in L.A. and it feels very L.A. They seem to do a big delivery business.

I have to show these guys some love. We were in a sushi mood and I choose this place based on it’s proximity and the couple reviews in French. This is definitely in my top 5 sushi meals of all time. You have to check this place out. The foie gras sushi seems gimmicky, but it turned out to be fantastic. They don’t have much for rolls, but the sashimi was amazing. I had the best tuna I have ever had outside of otoro. It was very dense, but still melted in your mouth. The salmon sashimi was also amazing. The apparently do a very brisk business in delivery, based on the 6 delivery scooters outside and the steady stream of boxes out the door.

This place is maki heaven! Rolls with truffle, foie gras or wagyu beef — by far the best sushi/maki I have ever had. If there is one restaurant i will miss the most after leaving paris it’s this one.
