Château Haut Brion

Day 2 of the wife and my tour of Bordeaux started off with a visit to Château Haut-​Brion, a first growth château in the Graves region and the only first growth wine of the Pessac-​Léognan appellation. While there, we were able to see the beginning of the harvest of grapes, all by hand, for their white wine. Thankfully, we weren’t put to work in the fields for our end of tour tasting! Tours are by appointment only. Our guide, who spoke excellent English, was extremely knowledgeable of the history of Haut-​Brion and its winemaking process. Aside from the château itself, which was beautiful, not surprisingly the rest of the facilities were very comparable to every other château we toured. One major difference from the majority of other Bordeaux wine châteaus, though, was that Haut-​Brion employed coopers to make their barrels on site. It was interesting to see the barrel-​making process. The culmination of our tour was a tasting of the 2007 Haut-​Brion and a 2007 La Mission Haut-​Brion, beautifully delicious wines in an elegant setting.

We just came back from a tour to the Château Haut Brion in Pessac. Its about 30 min from Bordeaux city center. Amazing educating tour. After similar trips to other chateaus, I now know alot about whole wine making process. Really interesting. See my pics. Wine is nice but somehow doesn’t live up to its hype.

Haut-​Brion c’est une somptueuse propriété située à la limite de Pessac et Talence, en pleine ville. C’est un site exceptionnel.
Le vignoble du Château est un Premier Grand Cru Classé, je vous laisse imaginer le goût que ça peut avoir en bouche ! Cette distinction est rare et reflète tout le prestige de ce vin qui a pour appellation Pessac Léognan. Pour vous citer d’autres Château qui ont cette distinction: Latour, Margaux, Lafite Rotschild.
Château Haut-​Brion c’est aussi un Cru Classé de Graves.
Ils produisent des vins blancs (en petite quantité) et rouges avec en cépage principalement du merlot, sauvignon et sémillon.
Les vignes s’étendent sur quelques hectares et sont traversées par la route, c’est magnifique de passer par là.
Je né l’ai pas encore visité mais j’ai vu des photos des chais, c’est superbe.
Alors n’hésitez pas à découvrir ce vin, même si vous né vous y connaissez pas trop, vous verrez tout de suite la différence !

Even though Ive accelerated my education on wine in recent years I can say I know still very little about Bordeaux wines. Luckily while eating at a restaurant for a special dinner, the sommelier informs us that one of the other patrons has left them a bottle of 1986 Chareau Haut Brion and would like to share some with us. Holy moly! I dont know who this patron is but they can just afford to leave Haut Brion laying around? So we split a glass and it’s certainly one of the more amazing wines I’ve ever tried. Earthiness and complexity in both the nose and palate are incredible. Im not sure Im wine educated enough to really describe whats truly going on. What is important is I like it and it’s fantastic. I shouldnt get too attached though, it might be cheaper to have a drug habit

Je continue ma route des châteaux qui me rappellent mes balades avec mes parents lorsque petite je pensais que le vin était du simple jus de raisins (ben quoi? J’étais PETITE !)
Les couleurs se font plus éclatantes, l’or se mêle au ciel gris et je m’arrête devant le château Haut Brion
Deuxième Château, premier grand cru classé dont la particularité est de se situer
quasiment en ville, le Château Haut Brion est également une référence en matière de grand cru classé des Graves.
Crée par Jean de Pontac en 1533, il est le plus ancien vignoble de Bordeaux
Le Château est actuellement en travaux mais les visites du Château la Mission Haut Brion reste ouvert au visites de groupe (15 personnes environ).
Ce château fait du vin blanc appelé La Clarté de Haut-​Brion.

This outstanding château is located within the city of Bordeaux. Imagine living in an apartment with an overview of the property!
The premier wine is outstanding — always buy the vintages you can’t afford!
The white is amazing, also. Very dry, well worth the price.
I avoid their second wine Clarence. Instead, I opt for Ch. La Tour Haut Brion as a slightly less expensive alternative, yet sometimes superior.
Pessac Leognan tends to enjoy less media attention and fame than the Medoc region, yet its remarkable chateaux are equally outstanding (Haut-​Brion, la Tour Haut-​Brion, Haut-​Bailly, Domaine de Chevalier, Smith-​Haut Lafite, etc.).
